Chapter 176: Who Taught You to Write?
Being immerged in drawing, Jing Yue forgot all about time. When Xiao Chen came in, he just saw her drawing something attentively, lying on the stomach with her face covered by black ash. There was a fancy house painted on the paper.
When Xiao Chen moved closer step by step, he found that brushes and ink were thrown aside. Though the tool Jing Yue used was just a sharpened charcoal, the line on the drawing was quite exquisite and the beautiful writing on the paper was quite tough, which just revealed her character.
“Ah, why are you here?” Jing Yue suddenly noticed a pair of brocade boots in front of her as she tried to change her position. After a while of pause, she looked up and found that Xiao Chen had come over.
“Yin Qiao told me you haven’t had dinner yet, so I come.” Xiao Chen answered. As Jing Yue tried hard to stand up because of the long-time drawing, he came over and carried her to the bed with his eyebrows tightly frowned.
“I was too busy in the drawing to notice time.” Jing Yue’s body was all soiled by the black coal, but there was a bright smile on her little dirty face. She pointed at the drawing on the floor proudly and said, “Have a look at my design. Everyone would be surprised by my restaurant once it’s refitted!”
“Really?” Xiao Chen looked at Jing Yue with a smile, and then stood up to observe her drawing. To his surprise, the design of the whole restaurant, details including the position of furniture all marked clearly, was so distinctive that even he had never seen before.
“I have researched those restaurants in the Imperial City. They are all designed in the same way, so I change to another style.” Jing Yue smiled at him and said, “Isn’t it amazing?!”
Xiao Chen nodded with a smile slightly hanging at the corner of his mouth.
“Ha-ha-ha!” Jing Yue smiled pleasantly, because it was so hard to get praised by Xiao Chen. Full of happiness in her heart, she obtained more confidence to manage the restaurant.
After dinner with Xiao Chen, Jing Yue asked him if there was anything to be improved. They discussed together and revised the design till late. Xiao Chen was studying the sharpened charcoal curiously while Jing Yue was rolling up the drawing paper.
“Who taught you to write?” Xiao Chen squinted at Jing Yue and suddenly asked.
“I learned it on my own!” Hearing his question, Jing Yue’s heart trembled all of a sudden. She looked at Xiao Chen with a smile and explained, “There was no brush in the forest and the only tool I could use to write was charcoal, which, however, made me unable to use the brush well even now.” Jing Yue knew her explanation was unconvincing, but she had no other choice and didn’t expect he would believe her.
“…” Xiao Chen stood up with the charcoal held tight in his hands.
“I will go out tomorrow.” Jing Yue looked down and said in a muffled voice while rolling up the drawing.
Xiao Chen agreed and left without saying other words to Jing Yue, who was sitting beside his feet.
Seeing him leaving, Jing Yue felt somehow quite upset. There were so many things which he should be suspicious of, but she dared not to tell him the truth for fear that she would be treated as a monster.
“Alas…what a mess.” Jing Yue sighed. Then she stored the drawing properly, took a shower and went to bed.
