Chapter 43: Wanting To Turn Over A Situation
In the resplendent living room of the Mu residence, Mu Ling sat on the sofa and cried to Mu Zening and Qiao Jingjia beside her.
“I really didn’t mean to. I didn’t know she would fall… Aunt Qiao, you work in the prosecutor’s office. You have to help me! I don’t want to go to jail!” Her eyes were red and swollen. It was clear that she had cried the entire night.
Mu Ling was terrified by Mu Zi’s drowning.
Qiao Jingjia comforted her. “Little Ling, don’t be scared. This kind of case is generally determined by the consequences. As long as Mu Zi is fine, it can be regarded as a public security case at most. The police station wouldn’t even file a case.”
Mu Zening was upset that an incident like this had happened at home, and his tone was harsher than Qiao Jingjia’s. “You’re lucky that no one died, or else no one would be able to help you! Little Ling, why do you keep butting heads with Mu Zi? You’re already seventeen. You’re not a child anymore. You should be aware of the severity of your jokes!”
Mu Ling hung her head and sobbed.
Qiao Jingjia acted as a peacemaker and said with a smile, “Alright, don’t scold her anymore. I have to say that the fence along the trestle was really too low. It’s easy for someone to fall over when fighting. Little Ling can’t be blamed for this…”
She took a tissue to wipe Mu Ling’s tears as she spoke, “Don’t cry. Your third uncle is lecturing you for your own good. Don’t be so short-tempered in the future, okay?”
Mu Ling sniffled and nodded.
Just then, Mu Rongxuan returned from outside.
He took a day off, especially for his daughter’s sake.
Mu Ling immediately stood up and looked at Mu Rongxuan anxiously. “Dad! Did Mu Zi agree to reconcile?”
Mu Rongxuan did not expect Mu Zening and Qiao Jingjia to be present. He was stunned for a moment before revealing a smile. “Oh, Jingjia is here too. I heard that you’ve been promoted to a public prosecutor. I haven’t had the time to congratulate you yet. Have you celebrated already?”
Qiao Jingjia smiled with her lips pressed and looked at Mu Zening beside her. “Not yet. I’ve been too busy lately…”
“I see.” Mu Rongxuan nodded and did not ask anything more.
He knew about the warm relationship between Mu Zening and Qiao Jingjia very well. Qiao Jingjia must be holding back because Su Zi had died not long ago, so as not to prick Mu Zening’s heart.
Mu Zening said, “Brother, you should let Little Ling apologize in person and solve any differences. If you’re the one running around asking for reconciliation, Aunt Bai might think that you’re taking advantage of your position to bully them.”
Mu Rongxuan’s expression darkened. “I’m bullying them? Third brother, you’re underestimating that family!”
“They didn’t agree to reconcile?!” Mu Ling could not help but cry shrilly. She stared at her father with extreme tension.
Qiao Jingjia was more experienced and asked directly, “What conditions did they put forward?”
“Mu Zi wants to go to Geroux.” Mu Rongxuan’s tone was disdainful as if he was telling a joke.
The people in the living room grew speechless.
Mu Zening frowned and spat out, “Ridiculous.”
Even Qiao Jingjia was stunned for a long time. She smiled helplessly. “That’s too capricious…”
Everyone felt that Mu Zi was carried away by her wishful thinking.
Only Mu Ling did not understand the situation. She begged pitifully, “Dad, just send her to Geroux! As long as she agrees not to pursue…”
“What do you know?!” Mu Rongcheng suddenly bellowed. “Do you know how much it costs to go to Geroux?!”
Mu Ling was frightened by the yell and started sobbing uncontrollably.
Mu Rongcheng was full of anger. “You only know how to cry! Can’t you learn more from your elder sister? You don’t even get good grades, and you only cause trouble for me all day long! If Mu Zi insists on not reconciling, I’d like to see just what you plan on doing!”
Qiao Jingjia’s gentle voice sounded, “Brother, don’t scare Little Ling. She’s already deeply regretful. Don’t worry, I’ll solve this problem.”
