Chapter 169: Chapter 52. Spirits (2)
I received the seeds of the Spirit of Fire, but I was an amateur when it came to birthing them. They would eventually wake up even if I didn’t do anything, but I wanted to set up an environment that would help them grow faster.
I immediately called Krithli. She was the only one knowledgeable about spirits. Lyhee seemed like she knew a little about them, too, but I wanted to hear an accurate answer.
“They are Spirits of Fire. This is the first time I’ve seen so many seeds.” Krithli’s eyes widened with surprise.
Lyhee had a similar reaction, but Krithli quickly recovered and looked at me.
“My Dungeon Master, will you give birth to all of them?”
“That’s right. Does that pose a problem?”
“If many spirits are born simultaneously in one place, they will consume all the mana in the dungeon.”
“We have sufficient mana in the dungeon.”
The dungeon’s rank had increased, and the Tree of Origin was there. The consumption of quite a bit of mana would not affect the dungeon.
However, Krithli shook her head.
“The total amount of mana might be fine, but the fire mana will evaporate significantly. If the balance goes down, we will face many issues in maintaining the dungeon.”
Indeed. I was convinced of Krithli’s explanation.
The dungeon was made up of various types of mana. It could be said that it had all attributes of mana. Hence, if one of them became scarce, the balance would collapse and affect the monsters, too.
“Then what should I do?” I asked her directly.
Krithli was smart, and she could adapt to circumstances well. I had received a lot of assistance from her. I didn’t hesitate to solicit her advice.
She explained elaborately, “Master should stay next to them since they are Spirits of Fire. The Flame of Pride and the Great Quintessence of Fire had pure fire mana. Some dehydration symptoms may be noticeable every time a spirit is born, but you should have enough to feed them.”
In short, I was the key.
I had absorbed the Quintessence of Fire, and only nine of them existed in the World of Spirits. I even had the Flame of Pride, so I was an appropriate source to nourish them with the fire mana.
“What do you mean I should stay next to them? Should I be there all day long?”
“Yes. It will take some time for the seeds to familiarize themselves and react to you. Master will have a good influence on the spirits.”
Krithli was adamant. She knew well that I would not heed her advice even if she told me that I could take a rest from time to time. She knew that it was better to tell me firmly.
This hadn’t occurred in my previous life. No one knew me well, and, obviously, no one knew what I wanted or what I aimed for.
Yes, there was Lyhee… but her nature wasn’t much different from my previous life. There was nothing else to say.
After talking to Krithli, the outstanding Dark Elf, things become much easier to handle.
“Do you know when they will be born?” I asked.
Taking care of the seeds would consume most of my time, and that was not my only concern.
I clearly knew what I could or couldn’t do. Honestly, I was not that confident with my skills when it came to looking after the seeds.
“Considering that they are in the dungeon and their maturity… I think it should take a month at most.”
“You mean I can’t do anything for a month?”
“My Dungeon Master… Leave everything else to me. I can control Roy, Rose, and Maxium to some extent.” Krithli smiled.
I hesitated and began to consider other things.
One month… The current situation on Earth was changing every day. I was not sure if it would be a wise decision to stay in the dungeon for a month.
“I guess I can attack a tired enemy from behind without exposing myself,” I thought.
It could be one strategy. Furthermore, I could trust and rely on Krithli.
“The spirits are worth it.”
There were 100,000 spirits.
I thought about the benefits I would get after a month. I was convinced that the wait would be worth it. Besides, I could also use this time to improve my skills.
“Krithli, I will leave things to you. Take care of them well. Maxium should be okay, but there are a lot of variables involved with Roy and Rose.”
In particular, Roy and Rose needed to be carefully watched. Even though Rose was smart, she was still a young Dark Elf. She lacked experience in doing things as the occasion demanded.
Right now, Korea was rapidly changing. Seoul was recovering, and many people were gathering again. Newer technologies using the core had replaced the old ones. The government became nominal, and the new kingdom was being built.
I needed Roy and Rose to control humans as I deemed fit. That was why I had given the magic sword to Roy.
Whenever things happened, I directed them through the Crystal Ball. But since I would have to pay attention to the spirits, I might not be able to do that anymore.
“Don’t worry, my Dungeon Master. Everything will go as planned, as you want it to be.”
“I trust you.”
This was enough. Krithli bowed and left. I walked towards the seeds and looked at them.
“Then…”
The sooner these spirits were born, the earlier I could return to my other tasks. Yes, it would take a lot of my time, but sacrifices were necessary for desirable results.
I spread my fire mana and embraced them. This was my first time, so I was having second thoughts. But everything started that way.
I sat down in the center of the seeds. I slowly enclosed them with the power of the Flame of Pride and the Great Quintessence of Fire.
***
[The user, Randalf Bruciel, has applied fire mana throughout the floor.]
[The seeds of the Spirits of Fire have responded. Their egos are slowly awakening. Awakening rate: 18.5%…]
[The fire mana is too strong. Three hundred fifty-eight spirits were destroyed without being born.]
[The fire mana is too weak. The awakening rate has dropped.]
[The fire mana is adequate. The awakening rate has increased significantly. Awakening rate: 19.9%…]
Maintaining the mana properly was harder than I thought. It was important not to apply too much or too little. Problems occurred every time it was not well proportioned.
I frowned especially hard when I read the message stating that the spirits had been destroyed.
“This is hard,” I admitted.
I would rather wield a sword than babysit seeds. It was annoying to sit still and control my mana. It was no different from torture.
“The awakening rate is not increasing fast enough.”
Besides, another thing was bothering me. Krithli said it would take a month, but two weeks had already passed, and the awakening rate was only about 20 percent.
It would take more than two months at this rate.
My concentration was waning after 14 days. I realized how hard it was to steer the mana.
“I had entered the realm of transcendence, but I was only halfway through. Currently, I am no different from a strong child. My ability to control mana is too weak.”
I had to admit it. I thought I was slowly growing stronger, but I realized that I wasn’t strong enough.
I had never reached a stat over 100, but, all of a sudden, all my stats had passed 100. I was unfamiliar with how to control these stats since I had never experienced it in my previous life.
“Originally, controlling mana was something that could be naturally learned as I fought. But fighting is no longer helping me to increase my strength. I need to recognize what I lack.”
It was possible to have a breakthrough when there was “enlightenment.” It would have been impossible with only fighting. Enlightenment was an important part of it that I only discovered recently.
“My mana is too rough. It’s like a wild horse. The only thing it can do is accelerate.”
I thought about what I was lacking to take care of the seeds and came to this conclusion: since my mana was too rough, the awakening rate was not doing well. The seeds were like eggs. They needed warmth in order to hatch.
“Warm mana…”
Warm mana did not just mean something had a positive nature. It had to be something that could embrace others. However, that did not suit my nature.
“I can’t give up just because it doesn’t suit me.”
I had to try even though it was not my character. If I gave up, I would be robbing myself of actually witnessing progress. Accepting challenges would help me move forward.
I acknowledged that it would be difficult, but I was sure I would eventually learn the know-how. I remembered the one who had the warmest mana I had ever seen or felt.
“The Guardian of Earth, Acis.”
She was a human, the awakened hero who suddenly appeared in the USA. She knew how to control Earth. At first glance, she was similar to Oculus, but their fundamental natures were different.
She hated fighting. Whether they were humans or demons, she detested seeing someone injured. She was only forced to fight when a situation called for it.
Her mana was the warmest one I had ever felt. She knew how to take care of others, how to love, and how to embrace them. Eventually, she was killed by a vampire due to these reasons, but she had many great accomplishments.
Something Acis had, but I did not. What could that be?
“Is it because I don’t care about others?”
The idea about me embracing and loving someone made me laugh. I could not even imagine it. It gave me goosebumps.
I shook my head. I was not affectionate and sensitive towards others like Acis. It was something impossible…absurd. I had been this way as long as I could recall. It would be difficult for me to suddenly change my ways.
I had to think of another way.
“Wake up. I will lead you guys.”
I stared at the seeds with a cynical smile.
I might not be able to shower them with love, but I could help them not get lost. I could be an example of someone they could emulate when they lost their ways. This was the best I could do.
At that moment, the wind blew and the seeds shook.
[The fire mana is warm. The awakening rate has increased significantly. Awakening rate: 32.7%]
[The user, Randalf Bruciel, has increased mana efficiency. It has increased by one.]
I just changed the way I thought, and the awakening rate increased by 10 percent.
“I guess this is the right way.”
Besides, my mana increased by one as well.
It was amazing. Once mana exceeded 90, it was very hard to increase. My pure mana became 95 through this.
I felt a bit more at ease. If I was doing this right, then I wouldn’t have to be impatient.
A week passed from that day. Exactly three weeks after I started, the spirits began to wake up.
The newly born Spirits of Fire did not have a concrete form. They looked like small fireballs. They began to hover over me.
[Great achievement! For the first time, you succeeded in creating a spirit among demons.]
[You have gained 300,000 points.]
[900 achievement points will be added.]
I did not care about the messages. I was watching the spirits wake up one by one.
The newborn spirits flocked to me like they already knew me. They hovered around me as if asking where they should go.
The 10th, 100th, 1000th—they all did what the first ones did.
It took three more days for the last seed to be born, and I didn’t budge from my position until it was. Finally, the last spirit flew around me, and another achievement appeared.
[Congratulations. Of the 100,000 seeds, you have succeeded in giving birth to 99,318.]
[Incredible achievement! You have gained 1,986,360 points.]
[1,800 achievement points will be added.]
[The skill named ‘Commune with Spirits’ has been added. For a more detailed description, please check the status window.]
