Chapter 219: Episode 69. A Melee (1)
Evil did exist. All demons were evil, but their wickedness varied. Indeed, I was evil. However, compared to other demons, I was the lesser evil.
Humans and I wanted to kill demons. When it happened, I would be the best and only choice for humans. I did not want Earth. My goal was to kill all the archdukes, to return to Devildom, and to be the Dark Lord. My true aim was to sit on the throne and to look down and laugh at everyone.
I had no desire to conquer and rule Earth. Moreover, I also entered into an agreement with 72 gods. Thus, humans were safe with me. Once I successfully eliminated all demons, Earth would be safe.
Yoo Eunhye was grief-stricken. Despite her agony, I could tell that she had already decided. Obviously, there was no better option than what I had offered.
Humans would not cooperate with other demons, and the current situation was not favorable for both sides to find a common ground. Angels? They did not care about humans at all.
I looked at Hope intently. It was safely kept inside a huge iron box. The appearance didn’t match its name. I opened the Mind’s Eye.
Name: Hope (Legend)
Description: It is a single-use item. It is a bomb filled with the hope of humanity. It is composed of numerous skills, cores, and self-sacrifice spells. Be cautious. It will cause a huge explosion that will exterminate everything within its reach. It is generally nature-friendly. There are no side effects.
** A being that has a total of strength, power, and intelligence less than 250 will be injured 100%.
** A being that has a total of strength, power, and intelligence between 251 and 260 will be injured 80%.
** A being that has a total of strength, power, and intelligence between 261 and 270 will be injured 60%.
** A being that has a total of strength, power, and intelligence between 271 and 280 will be injured 40%.
** A being that has a total of strength, power, and intelligence between 281 and 290 will be injured 20%.
** The effects are unknown for a being that has a total of strength, power, and intelligence over 291.
Strength, power, and intelligence were all defensive stats. Power could be considered different, but 10 points of power had an efficiency of 1 point of strength.
In my case, I had already exceeded 290. I didn’t know what would happen to me, but I certainly wouldn’t perish. The other archdukes also wouldn’t be much affected.
‘Surprisingly, humans were able to make such an item,’ I thought.
I couldn’t help but admire humans in this instance. They were able to create a legend-grade item. The result of human desperation was quite brilliant. Self-sacrifice was a skill that could only be used once in one’s life. People literally sacrificed themselves to create this bomb. I doubted that this was a mediocre weapon.
I touched my chin. It seemed to be a fairly powerful weapon. It might not be potent against strong or transcendent beings, but it was perfect to reduce the number of enemies.
Millions of monsters were gathered here. They were the demons’ main forces. If this bomb exploded at the appropriate time and place, many monsters would be eliminated.
“Rose will guide you to a place to install the bomb,” I told Yoo Eunhye. “Once the installation is complete, leave and wait for further instructions.”
Installing it at the center of the Royal Observatory of Greenwich was a good idea, but not ideal. It was better to drop it in the middle of the battlefield.
I didn’t wait for Yoo Eunhye’s decision. I was confident that she would agree with me. Even if things went wrong, she would not easily speak of what actually happened.
‘Kim Yongwoo…he didn’t say anything on purpose,’ I wondered.
Kim Yongwoo was the guild master of the Guild of Heaven’s Will. He was whip smart and always weighed the pros and cons. He probably knew about my identity but did not mention anything to Yoo Eunhye. He had a reason for not doing so.
“He probably didn’t want to make a big fuss about it,” I assumed.
The status of Devil Hunter would have collapsed, and Korea would be in turmoil. I could understand why he did not say anything. I slowly turned around. Anyway, I achieved all my goals in coming here.
I also accepted the pieces that Yoo Eunhye and Edward obtained from the Advanced Training Room. I was satisfied. Yoo Eunhye’s and Edward’s improvements were very impressive. It could be considered as double in my previous life. In the future, even demons would be reluctant to face either of them.
‘I can’t bet on this fight, though,’ I admitted.
I had to look further. I would handle the enemies and get rid of them using this chaos, but pushing myself too much might cause a backlash.
“But…”
As I walked fast, I coldly smiled. The situation had changed. Hope was better than I had expected. If I successfully detonated the bomb, I would create a very interesting scene.
Hundreds of thousands of monsters were gathering. They pressed against Ariel Diablo’s army. But things weren’t progressing quickly.
Flash!
White light leaked through the silver knights. That light connected the silver knights. They were gathering. They were stronger together. It was a skill called ‘Great Mountains (Epic)’.
Simply put, to get rid of a hundred silver knights, the enemy had to strike with an impact powerful enough to annihilate all a hundred of them.
The silver knights had excellent individual abilities, too. They were even able to fight against the highest-grade monsters. The monsters that Ufa brought mostly were not that great. He only had the advantage of quantity.
Ariel Diablo’s demons were also pretty good. They were retainers of the queen. All of them were comparable to knights. They were always training and improving their skills. They were able to continue fighting despite being outnumbered.
“You goddamn bitch! Try to stop this, too!” Ufa yelled at Ariel, losing his temper.
He had thought he would easily win, but the fight was still ongoing. He also could not focus on the fight because of the angels around.
“Ufa Blennon, if you do not watch your words, I will cut your tongue,” Ariel warned.
Ariel wore armor and bore a weapon made of a balrog’s bones. A balrog was the highest-grade monster at level 5. It was considered one of the best. The bones’ resistance to mana was beyond one’s imagination. It could invalidate quite a few skills.
In a simple 1:1 confrontation, Ariel Diablo had a slight advantage. It played a big role in escalating Ufa’s anger.
Ufa spread his arms wide. Countless black spheres came out of his arms. The spheres were black holes that sucked in everything around them. He gathered them together into one huge black hole.
The black hole had a very strong pulling force that didn’t distinguish between friends and foes. However, Ufa didn’t care. Getting rid of Ariel was his main goal. He would do anything to achieve that.
As Ariel saw Ufa, her expression changed subtly. She was aware of how dangerous that skill was. It wouldn’t leave anything alive.
“Abyss Sword.”
Abyss Sword was the patented skill of Ariel Diablo. Soon, her sword was surrounded by chaos.
Ufa’s skill was intimidation, but Ariel could not be intimidated. She planned to tear him apart with her power. To Ariel, Ufa’s black hole couldn’t stop her Abyss Sword.
Ariel Diablo and Ufa collided in the air.
Boom!

Pandemonium frowned. He found the current situation odd. The angels’ actions were strange.
“They are driving us into a corner.”
The angels were driving the monsters where the ark was. He didn’t notice it at first, but now he realized it.
‘Do they want a melee?’ he thought.
Ariel Diablo and Ufa Blennon were fighting near the ark. Pandemonium had no intention of intervening. It would be beneficial for him if they fought against each other. He was also planning to get rid of whoever would emerge as the victor in battle.
However, this plan went awry due to the interruption of the angels. It seemed like the angels wanted a melee near the ark, unless they had other intentions.
Puff.
Dozens of shadows gathered around Pandemonium.
“How did the mission go?”
Sway. Sway.
The shadows could not speak. They used subtle movements to convey their message.
“It failed…,” Pandemonium uttered, then clicked his tongue.
Those were the shadow-type monsters that Pandemonium had created himself. They were called shadow hunters. He created them to assassinate notable demons and monsters.
He had sent 3,000 of them, but only dozens had returned. They had been through vicious fights.
“Of course, they are not good enough to catch the cherub,” Pandemonium conceded.
A cherub was a second-ranking angel in the upper hierarchy. Pandemonium had encountered one once in Devildom. The cherub had an amazing power. He knew 3,000 shadows hunters would not be enough to catch it, but he tried anyway. He failed, of course.
Sway!
Pandemonium was disappointed, and the shadow hunter who stood at the front thrashed its body.
“You failed to catch the cherub,” Pandemonium stated disappointingly. “But were you able to eliminate the ophanim?”
Clap!
Pandemonium clapped his hands. The ophanim was also a high-ranking angel. It was lower than the cherub, but it was better than nothing.
“The ophanim… His name was Opinion.”
Pandemonium had met the ophanim, Opinion. He was one of the angels who fell on Earth.
He had strong leadership abilities among other angels. He was very strategic in battles, and he could do the work of 10 commanders. He was now dead. In other words, unless the angels had someone like Opinion, their system would be cracked.
“It wasn’t a total failure after all,” he reasoned.
It was half successful. Perhaps it would yield a better result than killing the cherub. Then, his plan needed to be modified.
“Tell all the monsters we will move to the ark. The angels will find it difficult to succeed in a melee.”
Close combat, or a melee, wasn’t something that everyone was capable of. The angels had lost their leader. Would they be able to handle the battle well in this situation?
Pandemonium had a lot of experience. He was confident of his skills. Now that Opinion was dead, Pandemonium could win this battle without many casualties. Then, after that, he would hunt down Ariel and Ufa, who had lost most of their troops by now.
The archdukes had gathered here, implicitly avoiding battles. However, the situation was different. Going to Devildom was important, but eliminating enemies was more important.
“I just need to be careful of Randalf Bruciel.”
Pandemonium was full of tension.
Puff. Puff.
In response to Pandemonium’s command, 10,000 shadow hunters emerged from the ground.
