Chapter 238: Episode 76. The System (1)
What Gustarte and Diablo told me was very simple.
They advised me to make use of the system, the Demon God’s masterpiece.
I could either destroy it or cause errors on it.
The system was so perfect and powerful that it could kill other gods. The Demon God was one of the strongest gods in this world, and his target must be someone who was as powerful or even stronger than himself. And if the Demon God created the system to potentially use it for his target, he must have put a part of himself into it.
In other words, if the system went wrong, it could affect the Demon God, too.
And I had a much higher chance of victory if I could reduce the Demon God’s power. I used a similar strategy when I fought Gustarte.
“Where is it, though?” I thought.
The problem was that I did not know where the system was.
I knew that it was not in Devildom, at least. And if the system was in the World of the Gods, I could not do anything about it.
However, an idea struck me.
I first thought about the Spirits of Darkness. Even though they had mastered the art of interdimensional cracks, I doubted if they could reach the deepest part of Nothingness in such a short period of time.
I found their tremendous progress strange. Despite the large number of cracks that they had created, they were progressing at a much faster speed than I could imagine.
Now I suspected that the spirits must have received help from Death Bringer, but I wondered if they had an additional source of help.
I asked Gustarte and Diablo what they thought about my plan.
They agreed with me.
I decided to give my plan a shot.
“I need to go to the World of Spirits,” I thought.
I looked at the Hell Lord, who was now possessed by Death Bringer. The man seemed very confident about his victory against me.
I could understand Death Bringer. In fact, he was correct. No matter how strong I had become, I was still far weaker than Death Bringer, one of the strongest gods. Had it been just the Hell Lord, I might have had a chance.
And I suspected that Death Bringer, too, realized that I noticed the true identity of the Hell Lord.
“God’s Eye,” I thought.
Although I was quite sure that Death Bringer was inside of the Hell Lord, I wanted to confirm this through God’s Eye.
At the same time, I wanted to use God’s Eye to see if even Death Bringer could not manipulate the system. If what I thought was true, Death Bringer could not prevent God’s Eye from revealing information about himself, even though they may be trivial.
In other words, should the status windows pop up, just like how they did for other monsters and demons that I had seen, Death Bringer, the Demon God, was also restricted to the system. On the other hand, if nothing showed up, the Demon God must have already modified the system, so that it would not reveal any information to me.
Fortunately, a message window popped up.
[Because of superposed powers, God’s Eye (Demigod) cannot function normally.]
Name: The Hell Lord (Death Bringer)
Occupation: Demon God
Title:
* Demon God (God, ???)
*the God of Gods (God, ???)
*The Great Being (God, ???)
*The Ruler of Death (God, ???)
*The Fallen Guardian (God, ???)
Statistics:
Strength ??? Intelligence ??? Agility ??? Health point ??? Mana ??? Potential (???/???)
Comments: The Hell Lord is possessed by Death Bringer, but the god has not taken full control over the Hell Lord yet.
Skills: ???
Although the majority of the information was hidden, I considered the message window and the numerous titles as a smoking gun evidence for my suspicion that Death Bringer was inside of the Hell Lord.
What caught my attention was the single line in the comment section.
I raised the Sword of the Emperor.
When the moonlight shone on the sword, it revealed itself magnificently.
This sword originally belonged to the Hell Lord. His most loyal soldier, Maxium, had kept this sword as the proof of the emperor.
“Maxium acknowledged me as the true emperor, and this sword is the evidence for it. You are nothing but a shadow.”
Death Bringer scoffed and looked at me. Despite his gaze, I continued to speak.
“Can you also hear my heart beating? It used to be yours, but now it belongs to me. You wanted so many things, the Underworld, Soul Cavalry, the Seven Sins… However, you never obtained even one of them. You are nothing more than a pathetically fake being.”
I tried to provoke the Hell Lord, hoping to confuse him if he was not fully possessed by the Demon God.
“You are not the Hell Lord. I am the one!”
And my plan worked.
“Ugh…!”
Death Bringer grabbed his head.
“You son of a bitch…!”
He looked at me painfully but could not move.
I could have tried to strike him while he was in pain, but the Demon God recovered quickly.
The Hell Lord and Death Bringer fought to take control of the body. However, the Hell Lord was no match for the Demon God.
“He won’t last long,” I thought.
I thought that the Demon God would dominate the Hell Lord in no time, and he would have a complete command of the body.
Aiming at the pathetic king, I attempted to use Chaotic Blade.
Bang!
Death Bringer was not my target. Instead, I attacked the demonic dragon that Death Bringer was riding.
The dragon shrieked, and Death Bringer fell to the ground.
Then I put my sword in the sheath.
If Death Bringer fully took over the Hell Lord, it would be a headache. What I just did was temporary, and it would only buy me a few days’ time.
I had to go to the system located in the World of Spirits and break it in the following few days.
I anticipated that the Hell Lord’s army would have trouble advancing, since their commander, Death Bringer, was temporarily out.
I spread my wings and started moving quickly.
When I came to Devildom, I brought everything from my dungeon. The items that I brought included those that I had taken when I had headed for the World of Spirits in the past.
I immediately called Oswen. The blacksmith who must have been under great pressure making the mirror replied to my call quickly.
“Oswen, can I use the device to go to the World of Spirits?”
“In theory, you can…”
“Activate that device as soon as possible. I need to leave for the World of Spirits of Darkness.”
The device, which I asked Oswen to activate, opened interdimensional cracks. I had enough supply to run it, and I believed that the blacksmith could run the device quickly. After all, the device was already made, and the blacksmith had to simply start it.
“As you wish.”
Oswen did not question my order.
The blacksmith left to prepare the device. Then I suddenly heard something that sounded like a mosquito buzzing.
“Master!!!”
It was Lyhee. When I saw the fairy, I could not help but frown. I took everything from my dungeons except for Dungeon Cores, so I thought that Lyhee would stay with the dungeon. I could not understand how she was able to follow me to a different world.
Then I realized that I was now the Dark Lord.
My fairy, Lyhee, was also promoted to the Fairy King, and she was no longer bound by the Dungeon Core.
However, despite her status as the Fairy King and the freedom, Lyhee still seemed to be restricted to the Dungeon Core. I did not know what was going on. Did she give up the title of the Fairy King, or did she let go of the privileges as the Fairy King?
“How did you follow me to Devildom?”
“Hehe, it is the power of love.”
“…your job is done. I believe that you are now obligated to create the World of Fairies.”
Unlike spirits, fairies did not have their own world. In fact, they had had one, but it disappeared a long time ago. As a result, fairies had always wished that the Fairy King would make one for them.
The Fairy King was powerful enough to create a world for their fairies, and I could feel such power from Lyhee.
The fairy’s face turned gloomy.
“I don’t know, but I had a strong feeling that I had to come here. Lyhee is nervous.”
“Predicting the future is not one of your powers as the Fairy King, is it?”
“You are correct. I don’t have that power. But can I just stay here?”
I swept my jaw. Lyhee was officially the Fairy King, and I thought that it would not hurt to have the Fairy King here. In fact, she could be helpful to me in the war.
After organizing my thoughts, I spoke to Lyhee.
“Go and help other demons and monsters.”
“Wow! That’s a yes, isn’t it? Hehe! I thought that master would say yes! Chew!”
Lyhee kissed my cheeks, as though she had never been gloomy at all, and she left quickly. Had it been before, the fairy would try to linger around me as long as she could. However, she did not bother me this time. She knew that I was busy, and she did not want to disturb me. Lyhee, too, had grown.
After the fairy left, I was lost in thoughts for a moment.
“The World of Spirit…,” I thought.
Going to the World of Spirits was a gamble.
If either the system was not there or the Spirits of Darkness did not know anything about the system, I would lose a lot of time. It would definitely have negative impacts on this war.
In addition, after I wasted my time and came back, Death Bringer would be fully recovered.
“I have brought it.”
Soon, Oswen appeared with the device.
“Can I use it now?”
“Yes, you can activate it now. Please don’t get lost.”
People easily get lost when they walked into different dimensions through interdimensional cracks. In addition, I had to keep the crack opened, which meant that I had to return as soon as possible.
Otherwise, those who got lost in the different dimensions would find the crack and they would try to destroy the crack and the castle, where the crack would be located. Of course, my army in the castle was strong enough to protect the castle from any invaders, but I did not want to receive any unnecessary damage.
“I will be back as soon as possible.”
I soon opened the crack and walked towards it.
***
The World of Spirits was devasted. Not only were there many cracks in this world, but I also could hear the sounds of things getting destroyed.
The Spirits of Darkness were fighting with other spirits in the cracks.
I decided to take a look inside those cracks.
Through the cracks, I found out that most of the other spirits’ worlds were doomed. Either they were all dead or they were enslaved by the Spirits of Darkness, had they survived.
However, there was one place where the battle was still going on.
“I am the King of Fire! Let me burn all of you with the fire of hell!”
It was Garatsh, the Spirit King of Fire.
The spirit was fighting with the Spirits of Darkness, leading other fellow Spirits of Fire.
Garatsh was one of the strongest spirits, but he was covered with wounds.
Spirits of Darkness, the powerful masters of cracks, concentrated all their efforts on Garatsh.
I paused and thought for a moment.
I could ignore the fight and advance deeper into the World of Spirits of Darkness.
However, things were uncertain, and useful information was much more valuable to me than making progress.
“I will have to ask him some questions about what’s going on,” I thought.
I believed that Garatsh, the Spirit King of Fire, would probably have some important information about the Spirits of Darkness.
After I made up my mind, I quickly entered the crack which was connected to the Spirits of Fire.
Fire erupted violently and surrounded the world where the Spirit King of Fire was in. The flame was as powerful as Garatsh’ fire. In fact, my strong mana made the flame even stronger.
Then I elongated Chaotic Blade and swung it at the Spirits of Darkness. The spirits were sliced apart like papers.
“Spirits of Darkness, stop moving.”
Then I used Kotodama. When the power of words was activated, the Spirits of Darkness stopped moving immediately. It seemed that they were not protected by any kinds of power.
“Lightning God, go and do your job,” I thought.
The Lighting God followed my order. Screaming, the Dragon Lightning slaughtered the Spirits of Darkness.
It took me less than ten minutes to eliminate the Spirits of Darkness who had invaded the World of the Spirits of Fire.
I completely dominated all of them.
The Spirits of Darkness were large in number, but none of them were strong. Such a group of enemies – larger in number but weak – was my favorite type of prey.
After I settled down the battlefield, I went to Garatsh.
“It has been a while since the last time we met.”
“…indeed.”
Garatsh nodded, looking perplexed.
