Chen B-Dog rehydrated himself and said, “After drinking the birch sap, my body’s water content is fully replenished and I feel better now. If you are lost in a forest, the most important thing is not getting the food but finding a water source and shelter. That’s because humans can survive up to 6 weeks without food, but without water, it would be very troublesome. When necessary, you will even find your urine sweet and tasty.”
“Let’s rest for a while and eat something before we carry on with our journey.”
He rested under the birch tree and chewed on the wolf jerky. In this time, he let the tiger cubs out to stretch a little.
It was probably the first time these little ones walked in the wild. Their little limbs were tottering and everything felt peculiar to them. But at the end of the day, they were still the king of the jungle. Even if their limbs were weak, they were still able to walk albeit shakily.
The audience could not take their eyes off of the adorable-looking little Siberian tigers. Thanks to them, B-Dog successfully wangled a round of gifts in the live broadcast room.
Chen B-Dog teased the tiger cubs as if he was playing with cats. He held them in his arms and fed them. Along the way, the audience had watched him brandish his knife numerous times, looking domineering when he slaughtered the wolf and killed the tiger. And now, his clumsy posture as he gently fed the tiger cubs, were making more people feel warm.
“Lord B-Dog has a warm heart.”
“I feel sorry to leave the tiger cubs.”
“After sending them back, they would have to live at the zoo for the rest of their lives. We can’t see them anymore. They are so pitiful.”
Sheep Herds Wolf said, “Lord B-Dog, why don’t you just adopt them and be done with it.”
Looking at this pop-up comment, Chen B-Dog broke into a laugh, “My friend named Sheep Herds Wolf, you are thinking too much. The difficulty level of adopting a first-rank national treasure in China is too high. But you don’t have to worry too much about the future of the little Siberian tigers. Whether they would stay at the zoo or be released into the wilderness after they have grown up, I trust the experts of Animal Protection Association will definitely give it the fullest consideration.”
The temperature outside was still very low. The tiger cubs could come out to move around but not for a long time. When Chen B-Dog felt he had sufficient rest, he departed once more. While it was difficult to walk along the mountain road, he did not forget to start “Lord B-Dog’s Outdoor Classroom”.
He said, “Nowadays, outdoor hiking is increasingly popular but it also got a lot of people lost in the wild or attacked by wild animals. I often see the Universal Wilderness Survival Guide uploaded on some websites and the so-called wilderness survival methods we have been hearing since young. However, many methods that claim to save your life at the time of danger are actually wrong in fact. If you follow them, it will get you killed instead.”
“Since I have some free time now, I shall give a lesson on popular science. Let’s see what the right way is.”
“As I have said before, if you see a bear in the wild, never pretend to die. It is not a good idea to pretend to die. You should step back slowly and keep at a certain distance. Signal the bear in this way that you harbour no ill intentions. That big brown bear may have caused me serious mental damage but most bears do not attack people at all.”
While talking, he seemed to be immersed in the memories of the big brown bear’s attack. His face was filled with resentment.
The live broadcast was immediately flooded with the laughing emoji of “LOL”.
Chen B-Dog did not take them seriously and continued talking. “I have built a triangle tent before this, I don’t know if you’ve looked closely enough. The place I chose to put up the tent is also a good place to be sheltered. But that is if you have something to spread beneath your body to withstand the cold. I have been arranging a thick layer of leaves underneath before I sleep. Furthermore, under this environment of negative temperature, if you get a frostbite and you see a hot spring all of a sudden, can you jump into it directly? Of course not! You should take some clothes and blanket to keep warm and wait for the body temperature to increase slowly.”
He chatted with the audience along the way and went across the mountains. Finally, he saw the deer herd.
“Look!”
Chen B-Dog shouted abruptly, “It’s the reindeer herd.”
What was so strange about these reindeer? Didn’t he meet a larger herd of reindeer before?
“This is a domesticated reindeer herd.” Chen B-Dog added.
What? Reindeer, domesticated? He must be kidding.
However, it turned out that he was absolutely not joking. He speeded up and moved on. He could already vaguely see a row of triangular spires or conical top houses that was located on the edge of the forest.
“Ladies and gentlemen, this time I have absolutely not missed it. I think I have reached my final destination. Like what I said, the building in front is by the last hunting tribe of China – the Evenki tribe.”
Chen B-Dog composed himself and tidied up the clothes he was wearing. Then he strode towards the village of Evenki hunters. “Well, finally I get to see a human being. I shall check my appearance before we go visit the legendary hunting tribe with courtesy.”
Migration was the tradition of the Evenki people. They would settle down at the suitable place wherever the reindeer and prey were.
After many migrations, now the remaining 230 people settled down in the village by the edge of the forest surrounded by mountains. Prior to the establishment of The People’s Republic of China, Evenki hunters still lived in a primitive patrilineal society. From that, they had entered directly into the society of socialism.
The camera filmed Chen B-Dog from afar as he walked into the village and came into contact with the Evenki people. The audience also got to see the overall scenery of the entire village.
Under the heavy snow, within the fences, were all the domesticated reindeer. There were also deerskin and various animals’ fur hanging on the wall.
Several children were playing on the sled pulled by reindeer. This huntsmen village in the winter was as beautiful as portrayed in the fairy tales. Everyone felt that this trip had not been made in vain.
Chen B-Dog talked with the spiritual leader of the Evenki people, Maria Suo. He was hoping to get the permission for him to film and interview in the entire village.
In fact, there were hardly any visitors because tourism had not been developed in this village, and it was more deserted than ever during this season. It wasn’t until this show was aired on television and became famous, that tourism in the huntsmen village would be developed by the tour companies and this place started to get lively here. However, that was a story for another time; we shall not mention it now.
Because this is really not that big of a village, just as he arrived, everyone in the village had been notified. Each and every one of the hunters in the village were very curious about him.
A delicate-looking lad, claiming he had crossed the entire primitive forest of DXAL to find their village…that was as phenomenal as it gets. The old hunters, though, were good at judging and they had preserved enough respect and caution for the outside world. So when they saw Chen B-Dog carrying wolf skin and rabbit skin on his back, a hunting knife under his coat, the tiger leather and two little Siberian tigers in front of his chest, and what’s more, he even brought up the abandoned hut nearby the hot spring; all these traces made them believe that Chen B-Dog was a tough and experienced hunter.
Maria Suo was a very old woman. With her not-very-proficient Chinese, she agreed to what Chen B-Dog had requested, and even provided him with a bowl of warm deer milk.
Chen B-Dog clasped his hands together and thanked her. The camera finally lowered at this chance.
Aimed toward the camera, Chen B-Dog provided some explanation and introduction for the audience in the live broadcast room, “This is Maria Suo Momo. She is eighty two years old and is the spiritual leader of the entire huntsmen village. Do you see the reindeer beside her? It has six branches of antlers on its head. That is her beloved reindeer.”
“The Evenki people make a living by herding reindeer and hunting. They cannot do without the deer. Their homes are where the deer and forest are.”
Chen B-Dog took out the wolf meat that he had kept to share with everyone. This move earned him the recognition of the men in the village. They invited him to drink wine by the bonfire. B-Dog readily agreed.
“Everyone contributes to the work together. This has been an abiding tradition. Even the prey we managed to hunt, we will distribute equally.”
A few youngsters worked passionately on the snowy grounds. Their mother felt relieved and baked them Ukleba (Pancake). The men drank the wine and a poet even began to read the poetry on a whim. It was about Shaman, the wizard of Evenki.
The children were curious about him, especially the tiger cubs on his chest. But he did not dare to let the tiger cubs out. If these children kill the cubs accidentally, he really wouldn’t have any place to lodge a complaint.
There were also some modern home appliances in the village. Yet, they were very curious about his live broadcast device.
A young man came near to the camera with his blushing cheeks. The millions of audience almost laughed to death.
