Chapter 27: Found Clay Soil

David froze for a moment, obviously not expecting the man to guess his thoughts.
On second thought, it made sense.
This program was no longer on the first season. This was now the third season.
Many people had seen what had happened in the past.
Clark and the rest came specifically for the prize money. They had even studied many strategies.
With this mental preparation, he could guess what the other party was preparing to do.
David’s mood slowly settled. “You’re right,” he said with a smile. “I’m making pottery.”
Clark couldn’t bring himself to be happy. He had thought that he and his companions were considered a pretty good bunch among these 100 people.
Unexpectedly, David was not far behind them. He was even preparing to make pottery.
Since he could be so leisurely, he clearly did not lack at least food and accommodation.
He also had the ability to weave. It could be said that he was living more comfortably than them.
The three of them had divided the labor and worked together to achieve their current progress.
Although many things could be completed very quickly, the demand was also three times higher than that of others.
Therefore, most of the time, he had to go hunting. Otherwise, there wouldn’t be enough food.
Clark asked curiously, “How many people do you have with you?”
David raised an eyebrow but didn’t continue to answer the question. “If you don’t want to trade, I’ll look elsewhere.”
It was getting late, and he didn’t want to waste any more time on these small issues.
One should not never intend to harm others, nor should one forget to guard against the harm others may do upon him.
Furthermore, they were living so close to each other. If a conflict were to occur, it would be very troublesome.
Seeing that he was about to leave, Clark said quickly, “I can help you.”
David stopped. “I’ll give you something equal in exchange.”
“There’s no hurry.” Clark smiled. “The clay soil is over on our side. Let’s go.”
David looked into the ravine and thought of the other two strong, muscular men.
But he followed Clark into the ravine without hesitation.
After walking for about five minutes, they arrived at a flat area at the foot of the mountain ravine.
Compared to the outside world, this place was much more humid. However, due to the lower terrain, he saw a water source as soon as they arrived.
He thought that this group of people was collecting water from where he was. He did not expect that they already had a water source here.
As he walked in, he could feel that the air here was colder than that outside and had contained moisture.
David asked in puzzlement. “Don’t you get a lot of snakes and bugs living in a place like this?”
Clark smiled. “Isn’t that better? There’s no shortage of food.”
It dawned on David that they were here mainly for food.
As for what they would eat, of course, it would be whatever was available.
As long as they could fill their stomachs, all snakes, insects, rats, and ants were food.
After walking for two minutes, they saw two people working on the cliff opposite them.
Discovering their arrival, Morton and Andrew stopped what they were doing.
They turned back and looked at him, surveying the person.
Morton felt a sense of familiarity at his young appearance, but Andrew made nothing of it.
Morton asked, “Why did you bring him here?”
Clark explained, “He said he wanted some of our sticky clay here. I was going to give him some.”
“Oh?” Morton didn’t know what Clark was planning, but he knew that his partner wouldn’t do that for no reason.
Clark smiled and said, “His weaving skills are very good. He said that he can make straw sandals.”
These words alone let Morton and Andrew understand what was going on.
Straw sandals were very important. They had learned that at the beginning.
However, the weeds here were too crisp and it was difficult to make satisfactory shoes.
Therefore, they could do so using vines, but they had never learned this skill before.
Morton simply said, “Leave when you’re done.”
David nodded lightly and followed Clark to a dark corner.
Sure enough, he saw that the soil on the ground was different from other places. It contained very little sand and was adhesive.
He no longer had a basket, so he could only bring it back in his hands.
This did not stump him at all. He stirred and molded the soil into bricks.
Then placed them aside and allowed them to take shape.
He then put them together and slowly stacked them up high.
Clark stood to the side and watched him. He was sincerely impressed.
He had to admit that although this kid looked very young, he had his own set of theories.
Especially when he was working, he seemed especially rational. He was a smart person.
He was even more shocked when he saw him pick up a brick that was about a meter and a half in length, as if nothing had happened.
David did not know what Clark was thinking. He picked up the brick and beamed. “Thank you for your help. I’ll send the things here to you when I’m done. Please rest assured.”
Clark chuckled and said, “We’re all on this island, we could be considered to be tied together. If you dare to mess around, you’ll suffer retribution one day.”
“I won’t,” David said, smiling.
Clark said, “Since we’re already so familiar with each other. Can you give us a piece of pottery if you manage to make them?”
David was silent for a moment. “You can trade for it with something else.”
“Are you sure?” Clark’s words were laced with menace.
“I’m sure.” David nodded firmly. “The rules can’t be changed, right?”
Clark was pissed, but he knew the kid wasn’t simple so he didn’t mess with him much.
He looked at him with a forced smile. “Good. I like the way you are. I’ll trade with you when we have something extra.”
David didn’t say anything else. He carried the clay brick and headed out.
Clark remained where he was, staring at his retreating back. The smile on his face faded.
Andrew came to his side and asked, “This kid is so arrogant. Why don’t you chase after him?”
Clark turned around and sneered. “Do you think I’m a fool? This kid is not simple.”
“Hmm? Why can’t I tell?” Andrew really couldn’t tell. He clenched his fists. “Is he my match?”
Clark waved him off. “I know you’re a boxer. Most people aren’t your match.”
“However, he is still of some use for now. We’ll talk about it when he becomes useless.”
Most importantly, David was able to carry such a tall brick. It was obvious that there was a lot more to him.
With such a person, they had to act with preparations made in advance. Otherwise, they would easily be at a disadvantage.
Andrew snorted softly, never taking the frail David seriously.
If he dared to be so arrogant and cold in front of him, he would definitely smash his head.
With the clay brick, David happily returned to his lodging.
He had too many things to do next.
