Chapter 541: 540 Go home
“Ranran, I already know that Fu Jingyi has poisoned you. Once we find him, we will definitely be able to cure you.”
Seeing that Wen Ran’s expression was somewhat cold, and that she was only watching him defensively without speaking, Mo Zixuan took a step forward, his tone hinting at desperation.
Although it was a deal between him and Mo Xiuchen, he still wanted the woman in front of him to know that he was trying to help. He was too eager to prove himself, forgetting that it was a wound in Wen Ran’s heart.
Her hand, hanging by her side, tightened secretively. Mo Zixuan’s words seemed to remind her that she was ill, that she should not be staying by Mo Xiuchen’s side.
Thinking about this, her face turned pale, but it could not be seen clearly in the dim light.
Just then, a gentle call from behind: “Ranran!”
At the end of the sentence, a familiar breath came from the air. Wen Ran looked up, watching the man approaching from the doorway, she suppressed the emotions welling up in her heart, her lips gently pressing together.
“You, go in and clean up.”
Mo Xiuchen’s gaze swept over Mo Zixuan coldly. His voice was clear, carrying a hint of displeasure and a subtle warning.
Mo Zixuan met Mo Xiuchen’s dark gaze, responded with a ‘yes.’ Although unwilling, he turned and left.
“Ranran, why did you come out alone?”
Mysterious eyes gazing at Wen Ran’s slightly pale face, Mo Xiuchen silently speculated what Mo Zixuan had said to her earlier.
Wen Ran composed herself, meeting his gentle gaze, and spoke softly, “Xiaoxiao called me, I stepped out to answer. Are you done talking?”
She was so absorbed in the call, she forgot to listen to what he had said.
“Yes, I’m done.”
Mo Xiuchen placed his arm around her shoulder, drawing her delicate figure into his embrace. His tranquil eyes were filled with tender affection. His voice, unlike his stern tone earlier, was now deep and magnetic, very pleasing to the ear.
“What award did you give Cheng Jia? Is she satisfied with her promotion?”
Wen Ran’s eyes sparkled with a radiant smile as she looked at him. Knowing Cheng Jia’s reaction after hearing Mo Xiuchen’s words must have been interesting, even though she hadn’t seen it, it must have been spectacular.
“She’s content. Starting tomorrow, she will be Mo Zixuan’s secretary. As soon as Mo Zixuan takes over the company, her wish to become the CEO’s secretary will be fulfilled. There’s nothing to be unsatisfied about.”
Mo Xiuchen’s lips curled into a smile. The expression on Cheng Jia’s heavily made up face had indeed been colorful and amusing, alternating between different shades…
The only pity was that Ranran had left and had not seen it.
“Really?”
Wen Ran’s smile hinted at her skepticism. Mo Xiuchen chuckled at her reaction diverting the topic, “Ranran, there’s nothing left for me here. Let’s go.”
He didn’t like staying in such settings. In fact, he didn’t like others disrupting his time with Ranran. He treasured every moment they spent together. Hence, earlier, he made his points briefly, clarified the situation, and came out immediately to find her.
Wen Ran blinked in surprise, “Wouldn’t it seem inappropriate for you to leave so soon?”
Everyone was taken by surprise when he handed Cheng Jia over to Mo Zixuan just now. As the CEO, leaving the gathering early could look disrespectful.
“No, it won’t. Let’s go home.”
He had no intention of wasting his time at this boring celebration. His time was meant for his beloved lady. All he wanted was peaceful solitude with Ranran.
Wen Ran was led away firmly from the banquet hall before she had a chance to see Cheng Jia’s reaction. As they reached the parking lot, Mo Xiuchen opened the car door, used one hand to shield the top of the car, and let her get in.
Wen Ran bent over to get into the car.
Mo Xiuchen closed the car door, moved to the other side to sit in the driving seat, naturally leaned over her, and fastened her seat belt.
“Ranran, it’s still early. Is there anywhere you would like to go?”
Under the dim car light, Mo Xiuchen looked at the woman in front of him with a gentle gaze. He was so close that her delicate scent lingered in his nose, making his heart flutter. He was tempted to lower his head and kiss her….
The thought flashed through his mind, but he quickly suppressed it. Nonetheless, a touch of intensity flickered in his eyes, shimmering in the dim car cabin.
Wen Ran seemed to sense his emotional change, her face flush. She lowered her gaze to the hand holding hers and said softly, “Let’s go home.”
“Great!”
Mo Xiuchen’s lips lifted into a smile. Hearing her say ‘go home,’ he couldn’t help but feel a surge of joy. At least, she was willing to go home with him.
He slowly let go of her hand, returned to his seat, fastened his seatbelt, and started the engine.
The car got on the road, threading through the night at a steady pace. Mo Xiuchen was focused on driving but frequently glanced at Wen Ran through the rear-view mirror. Because of her company, there was a light, constant curve at the corner of his lips.
Wen Ran leaned against the back of the seat, slightly tilting towards him. Her eyes were peaceful, like calm water, gently stopping at his large palm holding the steering wheel, likely deep in thought.
“Ranran, if you’re tired, feel free to close your eyes and rest for a while. I’ll wake you when we get home.” Seeing her maintaining the same position and expression, without moving her gaze, Mo Xiuchen finally spoke softly.
Hearing his voice, Wen Ran looked up. Her eyes met his concerned gaze. She smiled slightly, shaking her head, “I’m not tired, I just like watching you drive.”
Because of her words, Mo Xiuchen felt loved and decreased the driving speed slightly . Cars that were originally behind them overtook one by one. His eyes shifted to Wen Ran even more frequently.
Wen Ran eventually noticed his frequent glances. She laughed softly, “Mo Xiuchen, stop looking at me and focus on your driving. Otherwise, I won’t feel safe.”
Mo Xiuchen paused, then nodded, “Okay!”
Afterwards, he didn’t dare shoot her any additional glances.
**
On the banquet, after coming out of the shock brought on by Mo Xiuchen’s words, Cheng Jia found that he was nowhere to be seen.
Not only he but even Wen Ran was nowhere in sight.
Rage bubbled up inside her. The force of her grip on the glass tightened inch by inch. The surrounding words of flattery felt like mockery. From the moment Mo Xiuchen announced her raise and promotion at the celebration, she had been full of expectation and joy.
She had thought that he would finally satisfy her wish and let her work with him. Wen Ran, who had been absent from the company for several days, chose to attend the celebration party with Mo Xiuchen. Obviously, it was a clear act of defiance against her.
She pressed her lips tightly, with a flash of frustration in her eyes. This time, she failed. Next time, she would make a comeback. She firmly believed that one day, the woman standing beside Mo Xiuchen would undoubtedly be her, Cheng Jia!
