Chapter 560: Do you want to see you one last time?
Upon hearing Mo Xiuchen’s words, Wen Ran’s expression abruptly changed.
Mo Xiuchen suddenly tore off the white cloth from his body, got off the surgery car, and pulled her into his arms. Holding her tightly, his chin resting on her slender shoulder, he spoke in a low, helpless voice, “Ranran, could it be, would you prefer it if I actually died?”
The body in his arms trembled at his words. Then he felt a pair of thin arms around his waist, and her sobbing voice echoed in his ears: “No, I wouldn’t.”
A warmth spread in Mo Xiuchen’s heart. Wen Ran raised her tear-brimmed, gentle eyes to look at him. Those eyes held no anger for being deceived by him. Instead, they were full of gratitude and love, so sincere and intense. Her face was still wet from tears, but a beautiful smile blossomed in her clear eyes:
“Xiuchen, I’m glad you lied to me.”
As she finished speaking, two crystal-like tears rolled out of her eyes again.
Mo Xiuchen’s gaze tightened. Seeing her tear-streaked eyes, recalling the words she just told him and the tears she shed, he felt a pang of deep regret for deceiving her.
He had caused her so much sorrow.
“Ranran, I apologize, I just didn’t want to lose you.” Mo Xiuchen’s deep gaze overflowed with affection as he gently raised one hand to touch her face, wiping her tears away.
“I’m not mad at you.”
Wen Ran tried to smile at him. She didn’t blame him, instead, she was grateful for his deception, for she could not bear the pain of losing him.
Watching her smiling through tears, Mo Xiuchen felt a mix of love and unease. His lips lightly pursed, a hint of hesitation flashed in his eyes as he cautiously asked: “So, does your promise to stay with me still stand?”
“Yes!”
Wen Ran answered without hesitation, nodding her head firmly. Listening to Mo Xiuchen’s gentle, cautious tone, she felt an unspeakable pain within her.
All of it was her fault.
He was a man so proud and aloof that he looked coldly upon all other women. Yet, he was being so cautious with her. Even staging such a scene just to keep her by his side.
How could she blame him? The person she should blame was herself.
All of this happened because of her. She had once boldly promised to make him happy, to be with him forever…
“Ranran, thank you. Thank you for not blaming me, and thank you more for agreeing to stay.”
Mo Xiuchen was truly happy, enveloping Wen Ran once again tightly in his arms. Initially, he was worried that she would be angry if she discovered his deception.
“Where are you injured?”
Remembering his accident, Wen Ran struggled out of his embrace, raising her eyes to look at him with concern.
Mo Xiuchen immediately shook his head, a faint smile lifting the corner of his lips, he said, somewhat apologetically: “I’m not hurt. The other party is injured, and my car is damaged.”
Upon hearing his reassurance, it felt like a weight had been lifted off her chest.
She examined him from head to toe, leaving nothing out of her sight. Mo Xiuchen obligingly stood still, a warm smile curling at his lips, his gaze showered her with tender affection.
Only when she was sure that he was indeed unharmed did Wen Ran suddenly become serious again, squaring her face and looking mo Xiuchen straight in the eyes. She sternly said, “Promise me you won’t deceive me like that again.”
“Okay!”
Mo Xiuchen promptly agreed. As long as she stayed with him, where would he have the heart to resort to such drastic means to deceive her? As he lay pretending to be dead, listening to her heartbreaking cries, having his face washed with her tears, he could feel nothing but pain.
With his response of “Okay”, he wiped away the tears at the corner of her eye, holding her hand with his warm palm, he softly said, “Ranran, let’s go home.”
“Home?”
Wen Ran paused, then shook her head.
Seeing her shake her head, the smile on Mo Xiuchen’s face disappeared, his eyes filled with worry: “Ranran, is there something else?”
“I want to settle some scores with my brother.”
Wen Ran’s black eyes shifted, her mouth slightly pouty. Her demeanor suggested that while she didn’t blame Mo Xiuchen, she did hold a grudge against Gu Kai.
Her own brother had conspired with Mo Xiuchen to deceive her, causing her so much heartache earlier.
She had expected Mo Xiuchen to either defend Gu Kai once again or persuade her not to blame Gu Kai. However, to her surprise, this man, who had eyes for no one but her, readily agreed. He even nodded emphatically, a smile playing on his lips: “Okay, I’ll accompany you to settle accounts with him.”
Caught off guard, Wen Ran blinked at Mo Xiuchen, his smile hinting at a slight wickedness. She couldn’t help but join him in laughter.
As they walked hand in hand to Gu Kai’s office, they found that he was not there. A nurse coming out of his office saw them and smilingly said, “Miss Wen, Dr. Gu asked me to tell you that he went on a volunteering medical trip to the countryside and wouldn’t be back for a couple of days.”
Upon hearing the nurse’s words, Wen Ran involuntarily twitched the corner of her mouth.
Mo Xiuchen simply chuckled. He looked tenderly at Wen Ran at his side, “Ranran, it seems Ah Kai got scared off by you. We’ll try to find him once he’s back from his trip. Now, let’s go home.”
Wen Ran pouted, then looked up at the nameplate bearing Gu Kai’s name, glaring at it before leaving the office with Mo Xiuchen.
The moment Mo Xiuchen and Wen Ran walked out of the hospital, Mo Xiuchen’s phone rang. He led Wen Ran to the side of the road, pulling out his phone to answer the call.
“Hello!”
At the roadside, Qing Yang and Qing Feng, having already learned the truth from Gu Kai, finally breathed easy the moment they saw Young Master Mo and Miss Wen come out. Qing Feng immediately darted toward the car, opening the door with a wide smile on his face.
“Xiuchen, I heard you had an accident, and almost died. Are you alright? Do you want me to come and visit you one last time?”
Luo Haofeng’s voice came from the other end of the phone, wholly serious. Mo Xiuchen’s eyebrows furrowed, as he replied coldly: “If you want to see me one last time, wait a hundred years.”
“A hundred years? So you think you’re going to live a hundred more years. Does this mean you’ve achieved your goal?”
Luo Haofeng’s voice changed from its initial solemnity, becoming more provocative and probing. He had heard from Gu Kai that Mo Xiuchen had feigned his death to deceive Wen Ran.
This morning when he saw him, he looked as cold as ice, as if everyone owed him something. His tone was a little bad now, but he could manage a joke.
Luo Haofeng, ever the astute one, immediately speculated that Mo Xiuchen had managed to win over Wen Ran and was in a better mood to share a cold joke with him.
Mo Xiuchen cast a glance at Wen Ran beside him. As he made eye contact with her sparkling eyes, a soft affection welled up inside him, his grip on her hand unconsciously tightening.
