The booth was grand indeed, and one look was all it took to know that only the wealthiest of all could afford to spend the night there.
There were already two men and three women inside the booth. Their eyes were locked onto Xia Yanxi when she came in.
When she was young, she had been to many a banquets, or gathering-like events with her mother. Naturally, she had picked up manners and certain etiquettes that were befitting for these social gatherings. Only when Qiao Yanli sat did she follow suit, sitting herself next to him.
Qiao Yanli was observing his wife. Frankly, he was satisfied with her demeanor.
“Good evening, Sister-In-Law. My name is Qiu Shaoze,” a man greeted her, a pleasant smile displayed on his face. He had the appearance of the youngest man there and behaved as such.
There was another man sitting in the middle of the sofa. His cold, emotionless appearance was different from that of Qiao Yanli’s. He merely glanced at her before turning back to the girls and booze. Albeit wearing a poker face, Xia Yanxi could detect a hint of disdain and a thinly-veiled scornfulness.
“Sister-In-Law, please don’t be offended by Big Brother. He’s always been that way. The man cares not for anyone else. He’s the champion in being cold and Second Brother comes close as second. The perfect introvert, I should say,” Chu Muzhi chimed in with a smile.
Xia Yanxi arched an eyebrow.
“Are the four of you, brothers?” she asked. All of them had a certain attraction to them but neither one shared any similarity in terms of looks.
“Not of blood but the bond we share is thicker than blood,” Chu Muzhi explained confidently.
Xia Yanxi accepted the answer and quietened down.
Qiao Yanli slid closer to his wife, with his hand still holding tightly onto hers. It was not because she was uncomfortable, but seeing as how the man was not letting go of her hand, she jerked her hand hard, trying to free herself.
His face zoomed in on hers and his burning pink lips were only half a hair’s width away from her ears.
“Everyone here knows that you’re my wife and I would appreciate it if you don’t make me embarassed,” he whispered. His searing hot breath breezed across the fine hairs around her ears and the nape of her neck. It was sudden, and her heart skipped a beat. Her eyes became red and moist, not because of tears but of something else entirely.
Qiao Yanli’s heart wavered between love and covetousness, seeing as how the wife of his had reacted to a little tease. The onyx-like eyes of his narrowed in a little, a motion that was facilitated by a smile.
If only the wife were to smile like the husband did, the two would look exactly like a sweet couple, playing around with each other.
Nevertheless, even though she was not smiling, everyone in the booth was taken aback. It was with one simple reason, where no one had ever thought of Qiao Yanli as that kind of person, the kind that would condone public displays of affection. The man was known to be the eccentric, self-segregating, and reserved kind of man. No one knew anything about his personal life.
Chu Muzhi was one of them who was surprised by this. He genuinely believed that the flash marriage between Qiao Yanli and Xia Yanxi was purely to abide by the coercion of Qiao Yanli’s grandmother. The last thing he would have guessed was Qian Yanli’s true feelings for the girl. He was sure that besides her eyes, her clear radiant eyes, nothing else was of Qiao Yanli’s preference.
This sudden change of taste…
Then again, there was no denying that the girl was a beaut. Every part of her face was perfect, it looked like she was a marble statue chiselled to perfection. Her curvy eyebrows sit comfortably on the pair of crystal-clear eyes. Her petite little nose rested just in between them. And her lips… Her pinkish, supple lips were a force that enticed kisses. The conclusion was simple. She was perfect.
Be that as it may, one thing was off, and that was Xia Yanxi’s personality. That was supposed to be the red flag that Qiao Yanli would not have missed!
While Chu Muzhi was quiet, focusing his thoughts on the girl and the reason why his second brother actually liked her, Qiao Yanli shot him a glare. After being brothers for so many years, he knew what the glare meant.
With a sudden chuckle, he stood up, and gestured invitingly.
“It has been too long since we have gathered together. Enough with the booze, shall we play a game?”
Everyone turned to look at him, and once he was sure he had reeled in everyone’s attention, he smiled suggestively.
“Shall we play the Dragon Phoenix Pearl Fight game? Second Brother has a wife now so we do not have to worry about him excluding himself!”
The game, Dragon Phoenix Pearl Fight was a racy game that many a man and woman played during one’s stag party. The female would slide a ping pong ball from the bottom of the man’s slacks into the inner parts of his pants. The objective of the game was to push the ball from inside the man’s pants, in from the left leg and out through the right. The last person to remove the ball from the man’s pants would be punished.
