Chapter 58: Exorbitantly Priced Meal
There was some logic to her words. Why would someone from the Qiao family accept someone that was only a… Xia Yanxi.
“Big brother Wenxuan, why are you concerned about my sister? Do you have some hidden desire to return to her side?” Huo Shiyu asked as she threw a teary-eyed look at the man, displaying a pitiful, hurt look that one could not ignore.
Bai Wenxuan hastily wrapped his arms around the petite little girl.
“How can I think of another when my mind is filled with the thought of you.”
Huo Shiyu blushed. She turned around, making sure that there was no one around before she stood on the tip of her toes and kissed the man on his lips.
This was the one aspect that Bai Wenxuan loved about Huo Shiyu. She knew how to pluck his heart strings. Every time she kissed him, it felt like she was handing him her own heart. Furthermore, she would also bend over backward to please him thoroughly.
His mind drifted to the times when they were both in bed. Happy and contented, he caressed her cheeks and said, “With that look of yours and the way you are in bed, you will always be my number one minx!”
Huo Shiyu averted his gaze with such an embarrassing statement. Her cheeks turned rosey red and her eyes flashed with longing; a look that made Bai Wenxuan be on cloud nine.

Foie Gras, French beef steak, cheesecake, exotic fruit salad, and the biggie, a 1982 Chateau Lafite. This meal would easily rake up to hundreds of thousands.
One would think they were actually dining with diamond cutlery and sitting on golden thrones.
Xia Yanxi regretted her decision to let the man choose a dining place. This was clearly an act of revenge for what she said in her dorm! A meal that would literally cost more than an arm and a leg! What a punishment!
Xu Lingwei was not on the same page as Xia Yanxi. She was so surprised by such a luxurious spread that she dared not touch her cutleries.
After filling up the ladies’ glasses with the famous Lafite wine, he noticed how the girls were literally frozen in place and asked, “Are you ladies alright?”
The corner of his lips twitched a little as she lifted her head to look at him directly.
“Erm, please excuse us for a bit. Lingwei and I need to visit the ladies’ room.”

As they rushed to the ladies’ room, they stumbled across another couple; Bai Wenxuan and Huo Shiyu.
What. A. Coincidence.
Huo Shiyu could be seen clinging to Bai Wenxuan’s arm. A huge smile was hanging on her face, and when she saw Xia Yanxi, the smile dissipated into a look of shock.
“Why are you here?”
It was not surprising that she was taken aback. The restaurant was not fit for even the above average class, and definitely did not suit someone, who had only been taking odd jobs, and was a third-year student from an acting school.
Xia Yanxi scoffed loudly, her eyes reflected the most obvious of taunts.
“I am here to spend my hard-earned salary. Is the restaurant only exclusive to you?”
“That’s… not what I meant… This place is too expensive… I’m afraid that you might…”
Xia Yanxi interjected.
“That right. This place serves food that a person like me can never afford. It’s not like I have ever received any financial help from a certain Huo Changsheng. Unlike you, who has a monthly pocket money of over hundreds of thousands.”
“What?” Bai Wenxuan barked. Curious and surprised, he turned to Huo Shiyu and asked, “Uncle never provided for Yanxi?”
“He did not. Not only did he not help her with her daily expenditures, he has never offered a single dime for her brother’s hospital fees!” Xu Lingwei interrupted.
Xia Yanxi had never cared for her own suffering. She would stand tall and strong when it came to the problems she faced, working her way to earn every bit of peanut money she could. She had never told Bai Wenxuan about it. Perhaps she was proud of herself, being independent and never depending on others. It was only expected since she was not the kind of person that wanted to feed on the pity of others. Especially not Bai Wenxuan’s.
The reason was simple. When materialism intervened in one’s love life, materialism would always win. She had always wanted their love to be genuine, but alas, she came out of the relationship, damaged and wounded.
