Chapter 42: Song Wenxin, Are You Embarrassed to Use My Money?
Scared out of her wits, she gasped, “When did you come in? You didn’t make a sound!”
Did he always tread so lightly, not making a sound when he walked? Or was she so engrossed in knitting the scarf earlier that she did not even notice him?
“Just got in,” Jiang Beihan replied mildly before walking over and sitting on the sofa beside her.
“What’s this?” he asked, looking at the half-finished knitting in her hands.
“A scarf. Didn’t you say that you wanted me to give you a gift? Well, since it’s the middle of winter, I’ve decided that a scarf would be a great idea!”
Hearing what she had just said, Jiang Beihan paused as a hint of pleasure radiated from his eyes. So, this thing was being knitted for him. He had thought that it was something that she was knitting for that brother of hers.
Suddenly recalling something, Song Wenxin said, “Oh, by the way. I’m returning this card to you!” She reached into her bag and took out the card that he had given her the day before.
“I used some money from the card. I went home today to get some money and have already topped up the card with the amount that I had spent. As for this scarf, it will be my gift to you to thank you for your help!” she added.
To her, their relationship was a marriage of convenience and he was just her husband in name only.
Their relationship was not one of a sugar daddy and his mistress, so she did not need him to pay for her living expenses.
Besides, Song Wenxin had a monthly allowance from her parents to meet her daily needs!
But, Jiang Beihan had no intention of taking the card back from her and looked a bit annoyed.
“Song Wenxin, are you too embarrassed to use my money?” he demanded to know angrily as though he had read her mind.
It was very normal for a man to give his wife money.
Yet, she had refused his money!
“That’s not what I meant. I just feel that you giving me money is a bit—” Song Wenxin quickly explained, seeing that he had misunderstood her.
“A bit what?” Jiang Beihan asked, his eyes turning icy cold.
Suppressing a shudder, Song Wenxin instantly shut up and did not utter another word.
She just thought that taking his money made her feel like a kept woman.
Switching his gaze to the unfinished scarf in her hands, Jiang Beihan instructed, “Just keep knitting that scarf and show it to me when it’s done!”
Then, he rose from the sofa and marched out of the bedroom with his long limbs.
Storing the card securely, Song Wenxin sighed helplessly and continued to knit the scarf, according to his order.
…
Since her return to the villa that day, Song Wenxin had spent practically all her time—except to stop for dinner—knitting the scarf.
That night, after she had washed up for the day, she sat on the sofa and resumed her knitting.
A short while later, the scarf was almost finished.
Smiling and looking a little tired, Song Wenxin looked at the product and felt a sense of satisfaction.
It was a very long scarf. Song Wenxin, considering Jiang Beihan’s picky nature and his many dislikes, did not include any fancy adornments, keeping it plain and simple—a regular grey scarf.
But, because she had selected top-grade yarn, the scarf felt very soft to the touch.
She had bought a lot of yarn that day, so, contemplating what to do with the remaining yarn, she decided that there should be enough for her to make another scarf.
Since she had not made her brother a scarf in the past few years, she decided to knit him one now.
…
By the time Jiang Beihan returned from the study, Song Wenxin, dressed in pajamas, was seated on the sofa, watching TV and knitting a new scarf.
While the grey scarf was draped over the sofa.
He approached and noticed the grey scarf in one glance.
“Is it done?” he asked, looking down at her as he walked toward the sofa.
