Chapter 43: Young Mr. Lu’s Conflicting Responses
“What happened today wasn’t Xingguang’s fault. The other kids started it by saying mean things to him; that’s why he beat them up. Anyway, he has made up with all the kids, so all’s well, and the incident is considered resolved. There is no need for Mr. Lu to make a donation to the school.”
Eyebrows raised, Lu Zhanxiu said, “Mrs. Lu, there is a hidden message in your words.”
Pursing her lips, Yan Susu said, “I know that this is none of my business…”
“Since you know that this has nothing to do with you, stop talking.”
The rude interruption fanned the embers in Yan Susu’s heart. Her head snapped upwards, and she looked pointedly at Lu Zhanxiu.
“Call me a meddler, but I’m going to say it anyway. As a father, you should be responsible for your own child and not use money to resolve everything. Despite his young age, Lu Xingguang knows right from wrong. Those kids teased him for not being loved by his father and being abandoned by his mother. He had to resort to aggression to protect his self-esteem.
“Also, you never once asked him why he was getting into fights, or if he had been injured and whether the injuries hurt; you just prefer to use money to settle everything. That’s why, regardless of who was in the wrong, he didn’t dare utter a word, which resulted in even the teachers becoming prejudiced against him!
“Whenever an incident occurs, they don’t even bother to ask for a reason; they just name Lu Xingguang as the culprit, the one who bullied the other kids. This is your responsibility and your failure as a parent.”
Lu Zhanxiu saw the raging fire in her eyes and raised his eyebrows. “Are you done?”
Yan Susu turned away, refusing to look at him.
“And how did you end up at the police station?”
Signing inwardly, Yan Susu explained, “I was being attacked by a mad dog and, unable to fend him off, I called the police.”
He had been right there in the police station that afternoon! Couldn’t he have asked his questions there? Why had he even come to the police station, then? What an exasperating man!
Lu Zhanxiu was momentarily stunned. Then he laughed quietly.
Attacked by a mad dog, unable to fend him off?
This young wife of his was even more interesting than he’d imagined.
“What’s that in your hand?”
Yan Susu was in a daze, unable to catch up with his erratic thought process.
Lu Zhanxiu, too lazy to repeat his question, reached out and snatched the bag from her.
“Don’t touch it. Those are my clothes!” Lu Xingguang held on to the bag for dear life, trying to prevent his treasures being taken away.
Those were his clothes that his Honey had bought for him!
Mockingly, Lu Zhanxiu upturned the bag and inspected the contents. Seeing that it was all kids’ clothing, he muttered, “Mrs. Lu is, indeed, a good stepmom.”
“Of course! Honey loves me the most!” Lu Xingguang wrapped his arms around the clothes, happily picking each piece up and holding it against himself.
Such nice clothes. He loved them!
“Nothing but some cheap stuff from the streets; what’s there to be happy about? Loser!” Lu Zhanxiu snorted coldly, his eyes raging as he glared at Lu Xingguang.
The little woman was really biased. All she did was to try to earn brownie points from her son, but she had no clue how to do the same with her husband!
His remark was loaded with so much jealousy that Yan Susu looked at him in confusion.
His clothes were all custom-made, expensive, and unique. Why would he even care about the “cheap stuff from the streets?”
“What’s this? It’s too big; I don’t want it!” While trying on his new clothes, Lu Xingguang discovered an adult-sized piece that had somehow gotten mixed up with his things and threw it to one side.
Lu Zhanxiu stared intently at that piece of clothing, as though he was about to burn a hole in it with his eyes.
Assuming that he did not like it, Yan Susu rushed forward to grab it and hide it away.
Even in those chaotic moments at the store, she had managed to pay for the outfit, as if she had been pushed by some unknown forces. Unfortunately, Lu Zhanxiu did not seem to appreciate it one bit, and she felt a little disheartened.
A muscular hand grabbed the fabric and picked it up just a split second before she could. Assessing it, he sneered, “Bad taste.”
Sticking her chin out, Yan Susu said defiantly, “Give it back then, since you don’t like it.”
“How could you ask for something that you gave as a gift to be returned?” Lu Zhanxiu grunted disagreeably. He threw it to the housekeeper, saying, “Put this in the bedroom.”
“Yes, Sir.” The housekeeper smiled to herself, knowing that the master had merely pretended to find fault because it was obvious that he actually liked it very much.
