Chapter 44: Whose Wife Was She, Anyway?
“Honey, I want to wear this to school tomorrow,” Lu Xingguang exclaimed excitedly, holding up an outfit that was all the rage with the kids.
Many of his classmates had outfits like this, and now, finally, he had one too.
“OK.”
“Hooray, awesome!”
“Hmmph.” Lu Zhanxiu expressed his disdain with a quiet grunt.
Wasn’t that just cheap stuff off the streets? Why was he so happy about it?
But then, the next morning…
“You…” Yan Susu was shocked when she saw what Lu Zhanxiu was wearing.
Didn’t he consider the clothes low-quality and cheap? Why was he wearing them now?
Lu Zhanxiu glanced mildly at her and said, “Poor workmanship.”
Yan Susu was speechless.
If he disliked them that much, why would he even wear them?
“Honey, do I look good in this?” Lu Xingguang did a few excited twirls, loving his new clothes.
Yan Susu gave him a thumbs up and complimented him unreservedly. “You look very handsome!”
“What about me?” Lu Zhanxiu uttered with displeasure. Whose wife was she anyway?
“Eh?”
Lu Zhanxiu glared at her.
Yan Susu turned away, pretending not to have heard him.
Lu Zhanxiu fumed. That annoying woman. Would it have killed her to compliment him?
“Sir, time to go.” Secretary Han noticed what the CEO was wearing and was momentarily shocked.
Weren’t all the CEO’s clothes custom-made? Why would he wear clothes like these?
Aware that Secretary Han was staring at him, Lu Zhanxiu asked irritably, “What?”
“Our CEO looks exceptionally handsome today.”
Given that the CEO was a fastidious dresser and yet, he was wearing these clothes, Secretary Han deduced that the clothes must have been a gift from someone important to the boss. A compliment would not be amiss.
Lu Zhanxiu, appearing somewhat pacified, said quietly, “That goes without saying.”
Secretary Han said nothing.
He was positively bursting with happiness at being complimented, so why put on the show of arrogant indifference?
“Honey, quickly, take me to school. I want to be the first one in the classroom.”
“She should be taking me to the office.” Without a doubt, in the history of mankind, Lu Zhanxiu was the champion of fathers who loved to spar with their sons.
“Take me to school!”
Lu Zhanxiu glared at him.
Lu Xingguang immediately put on his sad face and looked pleadingly at Yan Susu. “Honey…”
Looking at Lu Zhanxiu, Yan Susu tested the waters and asked, “Shall we bring him to school together?”
“Who wants him to take me?”
“Who says I want to?”
Father and son voiced their contradictory objections in unison, turning away from each other in disgust.
Yan Susu waited silently.
Secretary Han stayed silent, too.
“Sir, Madam, the car is ready.” In a brilliant move, the housekeeper had arranged for only one car.
That way, it worked out that both Yan Susu and Lu Zhanxiu would have to bring Lu Xingguang to school.
As soon as he got out of the car, Lu Xingguang was surrounded by kids crowding around to admire his brand new outfit with the teddy bear design.
“Lu Xingguang, where did you get this teddy bear outfit? It’s very nice.”
“Isn’t it? My Mommy bought it for me.”
“Liar, you don’t even have a mom.”
“No, it’s true. Lu Xingguang’s mom is very beautiful and gentle. She came to pick Lu Xingguang up yesterday, and she’d already bought him so many new clothes.”
“That’s right. My mom makes me lots of yummy food, too. And she’s going to make me pizzas, and hamburgers and hotdogs, and lots of other yummy stuff.” Overjoyed by the compliments, Lu Xingguang stuck his chin out with pride.
“Wow, that’s nice. I want to eat that, too! Lu Xingguang, can I come over for dinner?”
“Of course you can! I will ask my mom to cook for all of you.”
“Me too, me too!”
“And me, me!”
Just yesterday, these children had been at each other’s throats, but now they had suddenly become firm friends, bonding over food. Arm in arm, shoulder to shoulder, patting one another on the back, they walked into the school together.
Watching Lu Xingguang with so many newfound friends, Yan Susu could not help but smile brightly.
Kids were so lucky, never having to worry about anything; they had no problems that could not be solved with a delectable meal.
Well, if the problem persisted, they would have yet another meal–there was no animosity that could not be resolved!
Seeing the widening smile on the little woman’s face, Lu Zhanxiu felt very happy. Something seemed to soften in his heart.
