Chapter 45: Mrs. Lu, Doubting My Capability?
“Sir, you have a meeting at ten, a lunch appointment with Mr. Yang, a senior executives meeting at two-thirty, a three-thirty report-out on the theme for the new winter collection, golf with Mr. Li at five…”
Secretary Han read out the entire day’s schedule to Lu Zhanxiu.
Behind the pomp and circumstance was a routine packed with continuous hard work and struggle that only the man himself could understand.
Feeling a tad sorry for Lu Zhanxiu, Yan Susu suggested, “Let me out at the junction up there; I’ll make my own way home.”
Since she had decided to make a clean cut with her past, she would have to look for another job.
Without even raising his head, Lu Zhanxiu asked, “Does Mrs. Lu want to be a parasite?”
“No, no, I’ll find a job,” Yan Susu replied quickly, not wanting Lu Zhanxiu to think that she was a freeloader.
“I seem to recall that Mrs. Lu’s compensation demands included a job.”
Yan Susu was caught off-guard, but she quickly remembered that when Lu Zhanxiu had asked her what she wanted as compensation, she had talked about a new job and a new place to live.
“It’s OK. Now that I’ve left that mad dog, I will find myself a job…”
Without waiting for her to finish, Lu Zhanxiu interrupted her to ask, “Does Mrs. Lu have doubts about my capability?”
“Oh no, I just didn’t want to trouble you…”
Lu Zhanxiu slammed his laptop shut with a loud bang. Looking frostily at Yan Susu, he said, “Trouble?”
Stunned, Yan Susu looked at the frosty Lu Zhanxiu and wondered, yet again, why he was upset.
“Mrs. Lu, you are such a considerate person.”
Yan Susu didn’t know what to say.
This time, though, he had been so blatantly sarcastic that she got the message.
Grunting softly, Lu Zhanxiu opened his laptop again and resumed working without another word.
When they arrived at the office, Lu Zhanxiu headed straight to the executives’ elevator.
Sighing, Yan Susu decided to take a cab home.
“Madam, the elevator is this way,” said a puzzled Secretary Han when he noticed Yan Susu walking towards the building’s exit.
“I’m going to catch a cab.”
“Does Madam already have plans for the day? At your convenience, please let me know a day when I can arrange for your onboarding.”
Shocked, Yan Susu repeated, “Onboarding?”
“Yes. Commensurate with your specialization, we have arranged for you to join the advertising department.”
Yan Susu finally understood why, when she’d talked about looking for a job, Lu Zhanxiu had been so unhappy. He had already arranged a post for her, but she had told him that she wanted to work elsewhere…
Dihuang was the one company that every student of advertising design dreamed of joining. For her part, she certainly had never expected that one day, she would become a Dihuang employee.
The manager’s office.
“Not to worry, Secretary Han. I will make sure that everything is carried out according to your instructions,” said the manager, eager to please Secretary Han.
“OK.” Secretary Han nodded and, turning to Yan Susu, said in a deferential tone, “I’m going upstairs now. Please call me if you need anything.”
Yan Susu smiled appreciatively. “Thank you. Sorry to bother you.”
“No bother at all.” Everything had been arranged by the CEO. He was just responsible for the legwork.
Moreover, this was not just anyone he was talking to, but the wife of Dihuang’s CEO. How could he, a lowly secretary, even dare to consider the task bothersome?
As the CEO’s chief secretary, Secretary Han was responsible for managing everything pertaining to the CEO, so everyone in the company looked to him for direction and support.
The manager of the advertising department, being an astute man, had sussed out from Secretary Han’s attitude that Susu was no ordinary person. However, since he could not work out her true identity, he just kept smiling and arranged for a mid-level position for her.
“This is Yan Susu, a new member of our department. Starting today, she will be the leader of Team 3.”
At his announcement, everyone gasped.
“Manager, all the team leaders are senior advertisers with over five years of experience. Isn’t it inappropriate for a newcomer to lead a team from the get-go?”
“That’s right. Every one of us here has more experience than her, so how can she be a team leader? Or is she a talent from another company? In that case, can she share her work and convince us of her abilities?”
