Chapter 37: First Show of Skills
The night was quiet, but it felt exceptionally eerie.
Outside the steak shop, the sound of insects crawling could be heard.
However, something strange happened.
Logically speaking, the swarm of insects had already occupied over half of the street, yet, they did not seem to have any desire to attack as they moved straight through the middle of the food street.
Ji Yu pulled open a corner of the curtain, and discovered that there were bugs that seemed real yet illusory.
How should he put it? It felt like a virtual projection of a bug.
They would make sounds when they crawled, and their cries could be heard. Strangely, the bugs seemed to be on a different plane from the world Ji Yu was in.
The planes interacted with each other, but the interaction seemed ambiguous.
Some of the bugs passed through the trash cans on the street like a mirage. However, some of them would suddenly bump into the trash cans and holler angrily.
The strange scene confused Ji Yu.
During this time, Ji Yu even heard the cries of children coming from some shops on the street.
However, these bugs seemed to have not heard anything and continued to move forward.
“Something’s not right.”
Ji Yu frowned.
It was obviously unwise to provoke the bugs. From the serrated teeth in their mouths, one could tell that they were ferocious predators.
However, the strange thing was that although most of these bugs looked like phantoms, many of them could touch things in the world Ji Yu was in.
When these bugs that could come in contact with their world heard the children’s cries, they actually didn’t have any desire to attack and instead continued to rapidly crawl forward?
“Could they be hiding from some creature?”
Just as he thought of this, as if confirming Ji Yu’s guess, everyone in the food street suddenly heard a terrifying roar.
As the roar became louder, Ji Yu saw five huge shadows suddenly appear in the sky, diving down towards the bugs.
The moment the shadow swooped down, the swarm of bugs became chaotic.
However, after the slight disturbance, most of the nearby bugs actually raised their heads.
Their beady eyes were filled with menace.
At this moment, they had already opened their mouths of serrated teeth. When the five huge shadows neared them, they immediately arched their backs and shot up.
At this moment, these bugs were like bullets. Although they did not have the speed of bullets, they were dense and terrifying.
However, all of this was futile in face of the five strange monsters which had wingspans that were five meters long.
The five strange birds suddenly turned around at the same time as the bugs shot up.
Their bodies were like high-speed motorbikes, while their wings were like the blades of an electric fan.
When the bugs got close to them, they were immediately sent flying by the birds’ rapidly spinning wings.
In an instant, purple ‘rain’ began to fall from the sky.
However, in the rain, there were some bugs which were still whole that were sent flying, scattering all over the food street.
Some insects were like mirages, so they did not pose any threats to the shops on the food street.
Some of them landed on the streets and roofs, but that was all. Once these illusory bugs passed through the houses and left the Purple Moon’s radiation, they suddenly vanished into thin air as if they had evaporated.
However, there were also a few dozen bugs that looked like they were real. After they were sent flying, they broke through the glass wall of some shops.
In an instant, the food street, which had been quiet for a long time, was suddenly filled with countless screams of terror and fear.
Coincidentally, one of the bugs crashed into the glass wall of the restaurant which Ji Yu and the rest were in.
Crack, thud!
The glass wall which was about two meters away from Ji Yu shattered.
At the same time, some of the seats in the store fell over because of the huge impact caused by the bug.
The bug slid along the tiles on the floor before it stopped in front of a middle-aged woman’s feet.
The woman’s eyes were dull, not daring to move as she looked at the terrifying half-dead bug that appeared in front of her feet.
However, this momentary daze was broken when the half-dead bug under her feet weakly opened its serrated mouth again, letting out a low cry.
“Ah!”
The woman shrieked in fright and fell backwards.
However, at the same moment, Ji Yu suddenly rushed out.
Without any hesitation, Ji Yu raised his leg and stomped heavily on the bug.
Squelch!
Accompanied by the sound of something exploding, the bug that was as thick as an adult’s arm instantly turned into a pool of purple crystal-like goo as it splattered around.
Ji Yu’s hands, clothes and face were all stained by this purple blood.
In the shop, everyone was stunned by this sudden movement. Even their panicked screams had stopped.
However, Ji Yu did not care about the people in the store at all.
After stepping this bug to death, he quickly walked towards the broken glass wall and drew the curtains that were pushed open by the bug.
At the same time, under the stunned gazes of everyone in the shop, Ji Yu immediately pushed a few tables and chairs to barricade the broken glass wall.
After doing all that, Ji Yu finally heaved a long sigh of relief.
Frankly speaking, Ji Yu did not have any other thoughts when he stepped on the snot bug.
In other words, at that moment, all he could think of was to protect himself and the people around him from the five terrifying birds.
Therefore, the only thing he could do was to deal with the snot bug that fell in and only that.
Thus, when Ji Yu turned around after he blocked up the glass wall, he realized that everyone in the shop was looking at him with curiosity and surprise.
The reason why people looked at Ji Yu in surprise was not only because they were concerned that Ji Yu had crushed the snot bug with one foot.
The thing which they took note about was Ji Yu’s reaction speed and courage.
After all, that snot bug was obviously not a blue planet animal. Just looking at it gave people goosebumps. Who would dare to rush up at it?
When he crushed the giant snot bug with his foot, the tiles on the floor cracked as well. His strength was immense.
Ji Yu only furrowed his brows slightly under the scrutiny of the entire restaurant.
Without saying a word, he quietly walked back to Ma Hongyu and the rest.
Under Ma Hongyu’s gaze, as well as Zhou Xin and Wang Qiaoqian’s astonished gazes, Ji Yu lifted a corner of the curtain and cautiously peeked at the scene outside on the street.
