Chapter 20: The Underground Corpses

Lin Yun only felt darkness before him, and the surrounding pressure loosened as if he had landed somewhere without sand. There was not a trace of light around him, and fine sand kept falling from above his head. He vaguely sensed that he had arrived in a very large space.
As he used his Spirit to explore, Lin Yun discovered that the place seemed to obstruct the Spirit. With this hindrance, it was as if he was in a mist and could only see a three-meter radius around him.
After taking a few steps back and forth in this dark space, he used his Spirit Strength to scan the surrounding scenery. Lin Yun felt as if he had arrived at a certain underground hallway. This hallway was at least ten meters wide and five meters tall, and the walls on both sides were carved with all sorts of designs and patterns.
There was actually such a large space beneath the sand. Could it be that this was an ancient city or the tomb of some great figure?
Lin Yun took a few steps and stumbled over something hard on the bottom of his foot.
“Heh… hoo…”
Only then did Lin Yun realize that he was still holding that baby girl in his arms. As the baby girl murmured softly, a faint blue light emitted from the blue jade on her body, driving the darkness before his eyes away.
Lin Yun saw countless dried corpses by his feet. These dried corpses were lying across the ground in a disorderly manner, and their clothes had long been damaged. They looked like they had been dead for many years. Many of the metal weapons on the ground were rusty and had lost their former glory. Lin Yun tried to pick up a longsword, but the sword fell to the ground, splattering dust all over.
“Judging by the decay of these weapons, they’ve been here for at least a few thousand years.” Upon thinking of this, Lin Yun was in no mood to search for treasures and began to explore a possible way out.
He carried the baby girl in his arms and proceeded forward in the hallway step by step. If he wasn’t careful, he would step on a dried corpse. The moisture in these dried corpses had already evaporated, but their bodies were as hard as iron. For every few steps he took in the hallway, he could see a dried corpse. A strange emotion slowly fermented in Lin Yun’s heart.
“How did these dried corpses appear? Why are their clothes so strange?”
Lin Yun gradually realized that those dried corpses weren’t the same kind of people when they had still been alive. Some of them resembled desert barbarians, some wore modern clothes, and some had long tails. At one glance, they were not humans.
There were more and more dried corpses around Lin Yun as he walked forward, and he even saw a dried female corpse that had just recently died. Her skin was still not decayed and her face maintained a frightened expression. However, this dried corpse’s skin was covered in bones as though the moisture had been removed from her body in an instant.
Finally, Lin Yun reached the end of the hallway and a large door appeared in front of him. Many dried corpses maintained their fleeing postures at the door entrance as if the root of all disasters originated from there.
Lin Yun’s curiosity was piqued, and he walked up to the door and kicked it. A lot of dust fell from the top of the door.
“Creak…”
It was as if this door was slowly pushed open by an invisible hand, and the scene behind the door appeared before Lin Yun’s eyes.
It was a very spacious hall without anyone inside, but a huge red coffin laid in the middle, which was as huge as a cargo truck, with many strange patterns carved on its walls.
This hall didn’t have any light source, yet it was very bright. Lin Yun only then noticed that he had been surviving underground in the desert for a long time. How could there be oxygen in this strange underground place?
“Creak!”
A sound came from behind Lin Yun, and the door quickly closed. A strange clicking sound emerged in the coffin up ahead, as though someone was grinding their teeth.
A hint of fear arose in Lin Yun’s heart, and he only felt that his hair was about to stand up. This strange environment and this terrifying coffin both seemed to be hiding huge, inexplicable danger.
“Crash…”
The lid of that red coffin appeared to slowly move. Suddenly, a huge hand stretched out from the coffin and held onto the moving coffin lid.
What kind of strange hand was that! It was as if a complete human hand had been drained of all its flesh. It was also just like a chicken claw that had been enlarged countless times but had many green hairs.
Right after that, an ugly head stuck out of the coffin. Its huge green-haired face was like a rotting kiwi that had lost all its moisture. A pair of green eyes suddenly shot out two streaks of green light.
Lin Yun was caught unprepared by the green light and a cold, gloomy air rapidly spread throughout his body. At that moment, the blue jade around the baby girl’s neck suddenly emitted blue light. Lin Yun only felt a coolness, and the feeling of discomfort was swept clean.
“You have been cursed: Time flies.
You were blessed by the Holy Maiden. Your curse has been removed.”
A curse! It was actually a curse!
Lin Yun was horrified. He had heard that curses were advanced skills that only those from the Demon Sanctuary could master, and they were immensely powerful and nothing could guard against it. This strange dried, green-haired corpse could actually issue a curse through its eyes.
Without any hesitation, Lin Yun turned around and kicked at the door, preparing to run away. His heart was filled with helplessness as he tried to escape again, and he finally fully understood “the enemy is too powerful, you’d better find a place to hide” in the mission tip.
“Bam!”
As soon as the door was kicked open, Lin Yun quickly ran. The dried, green-haired corpse had just crawled out of the huge coffin. It was two stories tall, covered in long, green hairs, and its dehydrated body was like a huge withered tree. Its eyes constantly emitted green light, staining this hallway with a strange green color.
Lin Yun had been protected by the baby girl’s blue jade and had not been cursed. However, he was horrified to discover that the corpses that were illuminated by the green light had all became “alive”. Those corpses slowly stood up from the ground, ran or crawled, crowded around the green-haired corpses, and chased after Lin Yun.
There were more and more dried corpses behind Lin Yun, and soon they broke through a hundred. He even wondered if he would also become a dried corpse after he died there.
Finally, the long hallway came to an end. When a door appeared before Lin Yun, he was overjoyed and kicked it in a flurry.
“Kwang!”
The door didn’t shake at all despite the loud sound echoing down the hallway. Then, the pile of dried corpses behind him had already caught up to him.
Anxious, Lin Yun took a few steps back, ran, and used his own body to crash into that door.
“Boom!”
The door shook, and countless fine sand fell from above. However, the door remained unchanged.
What a sturdy door!
However, that was the only way to survive.
When Lin Yun wanted to crash into the door again, the group of dried corpses had already pounced over. A huge dried lizard corpse suddenly fell from above and attacked with its claw.
Lin Yun used his shoulder to block the lizard’s claw that reached for the baby girl and, at the same time, punched the lizard’s head.
“Clatter!”
Lin Yun’s punch, which could shatter boulders, struck the lizard’s head and actually made the sound of striking steel. The dried lizard corpse didn’t slow down at all. Its tail swept towards Lin Yun’s leg and was about to sweep him to the ground.
Lin Yun jumped up and slammed the dried lizard corpse’s head with his right knee.
“Bam!”
His powerful knee strike directly sent the lizard’s head flying.
However, before Lin Yun landed on the ground, his leg was grabbed by the headless dried lizard corpse and he was thrown out. The dried corpse was headless, but its movements remained unaffected.
“It seems that the weakness of this group of dried corpses does not lie in the head. It’s useless unless I tear them into pieces.”
However, there were at least hundreds of dried corpses. Each of them was as hard as iron. How could they be torn into pieces? Moreover, there was still a huge green-haired dried corpse.
Misfortune never came alone. Lin Yun tragically discovered that the dried lizard corpse had just picked up its knocked-off head and settled it onto its neck again.
While he was hesitant, more dried corpses rushed over and were about to bury Lin Yun. As Lin Yun dodged left and right, looking in a difficult situation, he was suddenly grabbed in the thigh by a dried female corpse. Blood dripped and a slight pain came from it.
“You have been attacked, HP -10. The attack comes with a slowdown effect. Your speed is reduced by 50% for 5 minutes.”
This electronic voice was heard, and Lin Yun only felt that his body seemed to become heavier and his speed slowed down significantly.
At this moment, the huge dried, green-haired corpse had arrived before Lin Yun.
“What?”
Feeling hopeless about escaping, he suddenly noticed that there was something abnormal about the dried female corpse that had just grabbed him.
