Chapter 74 – Dismantling and Materials 2 Part 1

After having our breakfast, I and the rest of my party went out to check the progress of the dragon corpse dismantling and material harvesting work again. By the way, I also set today as a day off for the Clan. Since we have more than enough funds, and there’s a good chance of me being promoted to a noble, there’s no particular hurry for us to work right now.
Well, we’ve arranged to depart from the city this afternoon though, so it’s just a half-day off, I guess.
When we went out of the city gate and approached the work site, we found that there were a lot of onlookers today as well. However, compared to yesterday, we found it much easier to make our way toward the dragon corpse. It looks like a lot of our Clan members also went out to see the dragon corpse huh.
It looks like all that’s left of the dragon now were just bones. That’s amazing. Well, they did work round the clock for a few days after all. The corpse now transformed into something that looks like a dinosaur skeleton specimen you see in museums.
When I greeted the members of Gale who were guarding the worksite, they let us pass through straight away. It looks like they already remember my face.
“Good morning, Karina-san.”
“Good morning, Alan-sama.”
“It sure is amazing. Your dismantling speed is surprisingly fast.”
“Freshness is the lifeblood of meat, after all, so we had our men work as fast as they could. We have quite a lot of people who handle monster meat after all. Now, all that’s left to do is to dismantle the bones into individual pieces and transport them to the warehouse. It seems we’ll be able to finish all the work sooner than we expected.”
“Right. I was really surprised by the Commerce Guild’s– no, by your efficiency, Karina-san. How impressive.”
“No, I don’t deserve such a compliment, Alan-sama…”
Karina-san smiled bashfully.
We stayed around for a bit in order to watch the dismantling process again, but dismantling the bones wasn’t all that exciting to look at, and I got bored fast. I guess it’s time for us to go.
In any case, I’ve ordered the drones standing by in the airspace above us to record the entire dismantling process anyway, so it’s fine. I could always rewatch the whole thing if there’s ever a need in the future.
“Karina-san, could you introduce me to a workshop that can handle processing leather products? There’s something I want to make and I need their help.”
“Is that so? Why don’t we go there together right now then? There is no real need for me to supervise the work here anymore, so I was just thinking of returning to the guild.”
“That would really help! If it’s really alright with you, then please accompany us.”
The rest of the party have had enough of watching the dismantling process as well, so we all decided to go to the workshop together.
“What is it that you want to make, Alan-sama?”
“That would be…… this.”
I took out a set of ten parchments from my waist bag containing parts blueprints as well as a sketch of the completed product and showed them all to Karina-san.
“This is–!?”
Karina-san exclaimed in surprise the moment she saw the product sketch. After seeing her reaction, my party members scooted over to peek at the sketch curiously as well.
“Alan! This is–!?”
The sketch in question depicted Gloria wearing a saddle on her back and carrying a person while flying in the sky. The saddle had a total of six seats so a maximum of six people would be able to ride on top of Gloria simultaneously.
Of course, it was designed entirely by Iris, so the toughness and stability of its overall structure are guaranteed. And of course, it was designed to not get in the way when Gloria flaps her wings.
I had Iris get Gloria’s permission before designing this thing, of course. Gloria had already agreed. Iris said that Gloria was really happy about the prospect of flying in the sky together with me.
“I was thinking of equipping it to Gloria. It would be really awesome to fly in the sky on the back of a dragon, right?”
“It’s amazing! Alan! ……But will Gloria really allow us to put something like this on her?”
“I’m sure it will be fine. And if it turns out that she doesn’t like it, I’ll just drop the idea.”
Initially, I was thinking of only making a bracelet or something that would serve as a communication device, but since I was planning on making an accessory anyway, then why not go all the way? It would be very convenient to have the means to fly in the sky with six people in case of an emergency.
“This is absolutely superb, Alan-sama! But in order to make something of this scale…… I’m sorry, but we’ll have to change our destination to a more suitable workshop.”
Karina-san then changed direction. It looks like she didn’t imagine that I wanted to make a leather item of such a scale when she led the way earlier.
We finally arrived at the workshop after a ten-minute walk. It was a fairly large workshop with ten people working busily within. There were many horse saddles lined up on the walls, so this must be a workshop specialized in making them.
“Good day to you, master.”
“Oh! If it isn’t Karina-sama. It’s been a while, milady.”
“Master, I brought you a customer who wants to make something quite unique. This is Shining Star’s Alan.”
“Shining Star!? Are they the ones who managed to subjugate that dragon!?”
“Yes, that’s right. Alan-sama, this is Doha-san, the chief craftsman and master of this workshop.”
“The name’s Alan. It’s a pleasure to meet you, master.”
“Oh! The pleasure is all mine, Alan-sama!”
“The item I want you to make is this.”
“……Oooh! This is–!? ……Is this perhaps a saddle meant for dragons?”
The master looked at the completed sketch and raised a surprised voice. He then flipped through each of the blueprints one after another.
Not only were the dimensions of each part shown in detail on the blueprints. It also included a complete list of materials and even step-by-step sewing instructions. I’m sure they won’t have any problems making it.
Apart from the saddle, I also included a separate design blueprint for a belt-like necklace accessory where I could secure a comm device as well.
“That’s right. What do you think? Can you make them, master?”
“With this many detailed instructions, it would be a problem if we still couldn’t make them. No, please let us make them! We will surely present you with items that will satisfy you!”
“How much would it cost and how long would it take for you to make them?”
“40,000, no, 30,000 Guineas would be fine. As for how long…… We’ll be able to finish them in four– no, three days.”
That’s surprisingly fast. The cost was cheaper than what I expected as well.
“Understood. I’ll leave it in your capable hands then, master.”
“And, um…… If it’s possible, can I also be present when you first put the saddle on top of the dragon……?”
So he wants to meet Gloria huh. Well, I don’t see why not.
“Mm, alright. You can come with us then.”
“Oooh! Wonderful! You can return for them in the afternoon three days later. Yosh! Everyone, stop whatever you’re doing this instant! We’ll all be working on this first!”
The rest of the craftsmen responded enthusiastically, and the master started to give out instructions. He’s really pumped up huh. He must really want to see Gloria. It looks like we would only get in the way, so we decided to leave the workshop.
“Alan-sama, can I also watch the process of putting the saddle on the dragon as well?”
“Of course. I don’t mind at all.”
“Thank you very much! Would you like to see our guild’s freezing magic facility next, Alan-sama?”
Ah, I completely forgot the promise I had Karina-san make to let me check out the Commerce Guild’s freezing magic facility.
“That sounds great! Please lead the way.”
The rest of the party also looked quite interested so all of us headed for the Commerce Guild together. The freezing facility seems to be located in an underground basement near the delivery entrance behind the guild building.
Two guild staff opened a big and bulky-looking door that they were guarding and we found ourselves inside a chilly room when we entered. There was a large sliding door further at the back of the room. The material storage vault was beyond that door huh. I hope I’ll be able to see the magic circle powering the whole thing though.
“This is the freezing magic facility of our guild. The material storage vault is beyond that door over there.”
