Chapter 56: Don’t You Like Your Brother-in-law?
They had tried their best to interview him, but they kept facing his rejection and she had reached her limit.
At that moment, He Zimin had touched her sensitive spot. So, naturally, she would not care about his reputation and identity.
Her words made He Zimin’s face turn very sour and he coldly said, “Ms. Shen, if it was not for your father, do you think I would be wasting time talking with you? I can just send you to the police station for the disruption of state business. In the end, you are just using your father’s reputation as well.”
Shen Youran had no change in expression and her face continued to have a smile, which seemed warm yet cold.
She parted her pink lips slightly and wanted to speak, but Qiu Shaoze realized the situation was getting out of hand and immediately pulled her shirt sleeves before apologizing to He Zimin, who had a furious look.
He Zimin did not give face to them and coldly scoffed before leaving with his secretary.
Shen Youran wanted to follow them, but Gu Jinchen held her wrist back before glancing back at Assistant Zhang. Assistant Zhang understood his gaze and jogged to the parking lot to get the car.
Shen Youran shook his hand off and did not back down even if Qiu Shaoze was still there. She coldly said, “I don’t need you to be concerned about my matters!”
Gu Jinchen placed both of his hands into his pockets. Behind him were the neon lights of the hotel, which were bright and colorful, accentuating his slender figure.
He furrowed his brows and warned, “You are the Second Missy of the Shen family. Every action and movement of yours reflects the Shen family. If you are caught by the police, you will negatively influence the Shen family and portray it in a bad light, and this will result in the value of the stock of the Shen Corporation to drop. You have to be cautious when doing things.”
Shen Youran said while not quite smiling, “How thoughtful of you to think of the Shen family.”
Qiu Shaoze, who was clueless, could not distinguish the mockery lurking in the dark and reminded Shen Youran with a smile, “President Gu is your brother-in-law and is considered part of your family. Naturally, he will lean over to your family’s side.”
Shen Youran was already frustrated, and Qiu Shaoze’s words made her chest even more painful as she growled at him, “Shut up!”
Qiu Shaoze was startled by her shout and instinctively looked toward Gu Jinchen, who had a complicated expression. He blinked his eyes at a loss and placed his two hands at his side before he muttered, “Was I wrong to say that?”
Assistant Zhang had driven the car over and Gu Jinchen looked toward Shen Youran. “I will send you back.”
Shen Youran did not accept his kindness. “No need. I can take a cab.”
Gu Jinchen fixed his gaze on her before he furrowed his brows slightly. He knew she had a stubborn personality and did not pursue the issue further before he nagged. “Come back home early.”
Shen Youran said nothing and tilted her head to look somewhere else.
Gu Jinchen glanced at her and walked past her before he proceeded down the stairs. Assistant Zhang had already opened the car door for him and he sat in. Through the car window, he stared at the slender woman who stood on the stairs.
Qiu Shaoze finally realized something was wrong. After Gu Jinchen left, he hesitated for a moment, but as he saw Shen Youran’s foul mood, he did not dare to ask about what was bewildering him.
As the car gradually disappeared from her sight, Shen Youran took a deep breath. She turned her head sideways and met Qiu Shaoze’s examining gaze. Hence she touched her cheeks. “Is there something on my face?”
Qiu Shaoze shook his head and hesitated momentarily before cautiously asking her, “You… don’t seem to like your brother-in-law, huh?”
She heaved a sigh. Dislike? It was because she loved him so much that she felt so terrible.
