Chapter 248: Chapter 245: Surrounded by Sharks
The spear trailed a streak of blood mist dispersing in the water, and the once violent White-fin Shark immediately lost its strength. If the tail thrashing before was to flaunt its ferocity, then the current convulsions were a violent struggle.
Taking advantage of the Shark’s thrashing head, Bi Fang hurried forward and kicked it back into the sea, then watched the other Sharks vigilantly. When he noticed the two Sharks that had surfaced earlier also diving back into the water, his expression grew even grimmer.
The surface of the sea appeared calm, one human, one raft, but the unseen world beneath teemed with danger.
Thousands upon thousands of herring swirled like a whirlwind, making one wonder whether they’d be shredded if they fell in.
He gripped the spear tightly in his hand, his heart rate slowly accelerating, every muscle in his body awakening bit by bit.
“When Sharks circle around you, be very careful. They might attack you within twenty minutes, especially when there’s blood in the water!”
Sharks have an extremely keen sense of smell and are very sensitive to the scent of blood, but the sensitivity varies, with fish blood being the strongest and human blood the weakest!
Even Sharks do not balk at cannibalism, even if it means devouring their own offspring!
As the White-fin Shark’s blood diffused through the seawater, all the Sharks went into a frenzy. To them, blood was like drugs are to Humans.
They swam frantically around the herring, creating huge water flows with every swish of their tails. The bloodthirsty butchers couldn’t resist diving into the school to tear and bite, making a sudden charge. They always managed to catch a few, and with one bite, patches of fish blood dispersed, a sight that further inflamed the Sharks’ ferocity.
Several Sharks closest to Bi Fang had already started circling inwardly around him!
If Sharks maintain a certain distance, it indicates curiosity, but if they start circling inward and suddenly sprint, the likelihood of an attack becomes extremely high!
Just as Bi Fang braced himself, the Sharks suddenly attacked, not him but the injured White-fin Shark with damaged gills!
Gills are the respiratory tracts of all fish, and once damaged, the likelihood of death is extremely high. The White-fin Shark that had just been viciously speared in the gills was done for. After convulsing in the water for half a minute, it slowly turned over, its belly up, floating in the seawater. Its companions clearly didn’t pass up this opportunity and began gnawing on the corpse!
Bits of flesh and blood scattered, and white fat rose to the surface of the water.
The sight of cannibalism shocked all the spectators, especially when they saw the Shark blood spreading through the seawater, their fear reaching a peak, and they looked toward Bi Fang with even more concern.
The two were just three to four meters apart!
The White-fin Sharks had fully noticed him, and they curiously eyed this “huge entity,” eager to taste its flavor.
The raft shook violently, another Shark making an exploratory attack. Bi Fang steadied himself, his gaze piercing through the gaps in the raft, ever watchful for the oncoming Sharks.
Bang!
Another collision, and Bi Fang’s heart skipped a beat. A raft is still a raft, no matter how tightly he had tied it with ropes, it couldn’t compare to a real boat. If this continued, the raft would definitely break apart.
Splash!
Another sound of water breaking, and Bi Fang quickly turned his head to see another Shark lunging, but it didn’t come directly at him; instead, it bit onto the raft.
Damn!
The last thing Bi Fang wanted happened—the Shark was tearing at his raft!
He swung the tree stick; this time, he didn’t strike the Shark’s nose but aimed for its eyes. The Shark that bit the raft couldn’t dodge in time and took a solid hit, blood quickly spreading in its eyes.
This Shark wasn’t as fierce as the previous one, recoiling from the pain immediately, taking away large chunks of wood shavings.
Bi Fang quickly lay down to check, a row of sharp teeth marks deeply etched into the raft, large chunks of wood shaved off, and right there was a section of rope, now completely severed. The frayed ends of the rope made it clear that the Shark had quite a set of teeth.
[Damn, that bite almost broke the wood]
[Shit, Sharks have such strong teeth?]
[Shark bro, this thing does not endure biting well.]
[Why don’t sharks bite the life raft instead, why bite the wood?]
“Because sharks seldom attack things with conspicuous colors. Sharks find striking colors unfamiliar and due to their animal caution, they won’t rashly attack,” he explained.
The life raft was conspicuous orange, which, compared to it, made the sharks more likely to tear at the wooden raft.
But that was not all.
Bi Fang touched the raft, looking at the pale bloodstains left from a previous white-fin shark, understanding that there also was the scent of blood that attracted the sharks. Luckily, it was only the edges that were bitten; the raft was still solid.
Just as Bi Fang finished his inspection and was about to get up, the surging water beneath him immediately caught his attention. Without a moment of hesitation, Bi Fang dodged to the side. Sure enough, a shark burst forth, and he immediately leaned back, evading the shark’s attack once again.
While the audience breathed a sigh of relief thinking the danger had passed, an unexpected event occurred that no one anticipated. As Bi Fang leant back, another shark attacked from behind!
It was a coordinated attack!
The sound of breaking water rang out, Bi Fang’s heart contracted violently; he had not expected two sharks to attack at the same time.
As Bi Fang leaned back without any support, in his urgency, all he could do was twist his waist and abdomen, barely grazing past the white-fin shark behind him. But after shifting his center of gravity twice in quick succession, his upper body was completely off the raft, his balance utterly lost!
Splash!
The same sound of water breaking but this time, it wasn’t a shark leaping out to attack; it was Bi Fang falling into the icy sea!
Disaster struck!
The viewers and the production crew alike felt a suffocating pressure surge over them as they looked at the deep blue sea.
Heaven help us, he actually fell into the sea!
Not just the viewers, even Bi Fang’s own heart skipped a beat. When his body touched the freezing water, his nerves nearly froze.
It was dangerous enough on the boat, but in the water?
This was the shark’s home turf!
His vision was full of silvery-white bubbles, his veins contracted sharply, and Bi Fang’s head spun for a moment. If he were an average swimmer, he might have choked by now, but Bi Fang recovered in just a few seconds, his mind in shock, he immediately looked around.
Right then, he felt a strong pull of water on his right side!
He was all too familiar with this sensation; something was approaching! And fast!
Above the water, all the spectators could see a shadow swimming rapidly towards Bi Fang!
Shark attack!
Bi Fang’s body’s potential was fully unleashed. His legs bent and extended, propelling him like a frog leaping out. He turned sharply, but not quickly enough.
Through the first-person perspective, viewers could almost clearly see it graze Bi Fang’s scalp. The strong current brushed past him, the tremendous violent force of the shark’s body hit him full in the face. Bi Fang seized the opportunity, grabbing its tail with one hand, the other hand holding the spear stabbed towards its body. The touch was like leather, and in a moment, a large amount of blood dispersed.
He felt as if a thick scent of blood mixed with the stench of urine was penetrating his nostrils. The injured shark struggled violently, seeking to counterattack, but Bi Fang only sank lower, positioning himself beneath the shark, embraced it and flipped powerfully.
The shark, which had been so fierce just moments ago, now lay belly-up, startlingly motionless as if it had lost all its fighting spirit!
What was happening?
The audience was stunned silent. They saw clearly that Bi Fang’s spear had caused nothing more than a superficial wound to the shark. How could it have suddenly died?
