Chapter 53: Lu Jiu Que and the Greedy Old Man, Simply Inexplicable! (Part 2)
The look on Ye Hui’s face froze and he hurriedly replied, “No, no. I never said that.”
They were done for. Earlier on, the old man had executed some very bizarre skills. What if he caused trouble for Lu Jiu Que in the future?
It was all his fault. He should have never called out her name earlier.
Lu Jiu Que was speechless as she rolled her eyes. This guy, Ye Hui, was really a useless teammate. Wasn’t reacting so strongly the most obvious way to tell other people that her name actually was Lu Jiu Que?
Looking back with a cold smile, Lu Jiu Que curved her lips and said with an evil face, “Yes, I am Lu Jiu Que.”
The old man’s dark face was twisted like a pretzel as he sucked in a painful breath to say, “Lu Jiu Que of the Qing Yan Empire who’s a worthless piece of trash?! How could you know that heating red thorn berries with dragon tongue grass and purple gold grass would cause abdominal pain? Who told you that?”
Lu Jiu Que flashed her snow-white teeth in a smile and said, “I was gifted with a unique talent. Why couldn’t I have been the one to come up with it?”
“What?! You came up with it?!”
His voice was so agitated that it sounded like he was a banshee being held by the neck. It was absolutely piercing.
Pouting, Lu Jiu Que said, “What’s the matter? Still thinking about taking revenge? Tsk-tsk. Then should I take advantage of you feeling unwell and kill you now? This is a good way of putting a definite end to all future trouble, isn’t it?” Such a foolish and mindless thing as leaving behind a source of trouble for herself was something she didn’t really want to do.
The old man’s pallor alternated between purple and white. He gasped heavily. His eyes, which looked deep, were embedded in his incessantly convulsing face. They were just like the eyes of a wolf, extremely shiny and green.
Under the old man’s gaze, Ye Hui quivered. With shaky legs, he planted himself in front of Lu Jiu Que, gritted his teeth, and said, “You… What are you thinking of doing?! Everything here clearly shows that you were the one at fault first. If you hadn’t snatched something that belonged to us, you wouldn’t have been poisoned. So… So… Serves you right!”
The old man convulsed a few times, then bared his teeth in a wide grin. He said, “Hmph… Lu Jiu Que… I will remember you… Lu Jiu Que! Just you wait!”
Having said that, in a flash, his figure instantly disappeared from its original spot. Even Lu Jiu Que’s superbly strong senses couldn’t detect the directions of his movements.
The moment the old man left, Ye Hui’s body went limp. He almost fell on his butt out of fear.
His lingering fear made him ask, “Lu Jiu Que, what should we do now? That old man seems very powerful.”
Lu Jiu Que shrugged her shoulders and said, “It’s not that he ‘seems very powerful,’ but that he is indeed very powerful.” How could he possibly not be powerful? He had approached them without casting a shadow and left without leaving a trace. He could likely walk on snow without leaving any footprints, and his breath was hardly discernible. She was afraid to say it, but out of all the people she had met thus far, only that haughty man who stood on the fourth layer of the high platform could be compared to this old man.
“What?!” The look on Ye Hui’s face made it seem as though the sky was about to fall. “Then… Then what should we do if we’ve offended him?”
Lu Jiu Que didn’t sound happy either as she replied, “What now? There’s nothing we can do now!”
“…”
“If you’re so scared, you can move. No one says you have to stand in front of me.”
“I… I…”
“Forget it. You’re really so silly. Let’s go! Everything will be fine, I promise.”
“Ah? Really?”
“Yes.”
Speaking of whether it would be okay, it was strange that Lu Jiu Que was so convinced. She herself didn’t know.
Though the old man’s expression appeared to be ferocious, like he really wished he could kill them, there had been no murderous intent in his eyes…
Rather than saying it was a murderous thought, it was better to refer to it as something else, like a more bizarre and complex emotion.
It was like the subtle feeling of searching for someone hundreds and thousands of times in a crowd to no avail, then suddenly looking back to see them, standing under dim, gloomy lights.
This old man and Lu Jiu Que were…
Ha, this was simply inexplicable!
