Chapter 82: It was not Valentine’s Day yet (2)
From a young age, Chen Keyao was not too close to relatives on either side of his parents.
His father was an only child, his grandparents died long ago, and other relatives had rarely been around for years. When he was a child, he met relatives from her mother’s side occasionally, but after Sister Lan got divorced and settled abroad, all the contact was reduced to just the Spring Festival’s greeting calls.
In the past, he did not realize that was a problem, but this time when he went home with Rong Yi he discovered that there were still families that had such crowded and busy Spring Festivals.
On Spring Festival’s Eve, all the family members were from Rong Yi’s mother’s side. By the first day of the Spring Festival, they had to have a family dinner with Rong Yi’s father’s brothers and sisters. He thought it would be the end of it after having seen both sides, but he didn’t expect that each of Rong Yi’s father’s relatives also invited them over for meals every day.
Chen Keyao had big meals with him for a few days, with no time to exercise, and felt he had gained weight.
On the fifth evening of the Spring Festival, he took off his jacket and looked around in the mirror for a long while, then called Rong Yi into the bathroom.
“Do you think I’ve got fat on my waist?” He asked.
Rong Yi checked him twice and laughed. Walking toward him with a smile, Rong Yi reached out his hands.
“It doesn’t look obvious. I have to feel it.” He said.
The two ended up taking a bath together.
When Rong Yi came into the bathroom, he didn’t bring any clean clothes, and he was so exhausted, so Chen Keyao simply took him back into the room in his arms.
Rong Yi wrapped his bare arms around Chen Keyao’s neck and snuggled his face down into his neck, whispering: “How can you be so strong.”
So Chen Keyao had to swallow the sentence that was almost going to slip out “I think you’re gaining weight too.”
The atmosphere was sweet and mellow, and it was the right time to make love again, but Chen Keyao had to pretend to be a serious man.
After he put Rong Yi down in bed, he walked toward the corner where his suitcase was with a look of pure heart and no desires. “I’ll get you your pyjamas.”
Rong Yi squinted his eyes and nodded, but when Chen Keyao opened his suitcase, for reasons unknown, he suddenly woke up and jumped off the bed.
“Don’t move!” He shouted, “Leave it alone, don’t go through my suitcase!”
Chen Keyao was shocked by him.
Rong Yi got out of bed and realized that running around with his bare butt was a bit of an undignified thing, so he picked up a duvet and wrapped it around himself. When he again struggled to move over with the heavy duvet, Chen Keyao’s eyebrows nearly knitted into a Chinese knot.
“What’s inside?”
“Personal items.” Rong Yi forced himself between Chen Keyao and the suitcase. “There’s nothing to look at.”
Chen Keyao looked at him: “Do you think I believe that?”
“…”Rong Yi licked his lips, and his eyes turned half way down noticeably. He then raised his head and smiled at Chen Keyao. “Honey, I don’t want to wear pyjamas.”
Chen Keyao was rather amused. ‘Do I look like someone really easy to fool?’
Rong Yi tried to drag him away. When he found that he couldn’t move him, he simply leaned over and gave him a kiss on the face: “Let’s go.”
“What on earth is it?” Chen Keyao was very firm.
Rong Yi pursed up his lips.
“I think you’re hiding something from me.” Chen Keyao stared at him.
“I knew it.” Rong Yi grumbled. “It was just a lie when you said you’d be nice and obedient.”
“I’ve been so good. I immediately stopped when you told me not to touch it,” Chen Keyao said. “But you’re hiding something from me. I’m not happy.”
“I’m really unhappy.”
Rong Yi frowned and seemed to have struggled for a while and suddenly became upset. He lifted up his duvet and kicked open the lid of the suitcase. Then from the corner of the suitcase he got out a small box, and threw it at Chen Keyao.
“So annoying!” He said, “Here you go. Okay now?”
Then, without waiting for Chen Keyao to react, he walked back to the bed with the duvet, stumbling head down into the pillow with face down.
Chen Keyao was a little slow to respond, looking down at the small square box with his heart pounding.
“Can I open it?” He asked Rong Yi carefully.
Rong Yi loudly replied: “No! Open it on Valentine’s Day!”
“…But I’ve opened it.” Looking down at the tiny silver ring in the box, Chen Koyao felt that his voice was floating. “Can I put it on?”
“No.” Rong Yi said. “This is your Valentine’s Day gift.”
“But I’ve put it on. What shall I do?” Chen Keyao asked.
When Chen Keyao proposed with a diamond-studded platinum ring on the inside, it was for its convenient everyday wear without any complications. It was not sure whether Rong Yi was satisfied with the style or whether he liked its meaning, but he had never taken it off since that day.
But rings for proposals are different from couple rings. Chen Keyao’s fingers had been bare up till now. So not long ago, they talked about buying a pair of couple rings when the Spring Festival was over.
At the time, Rong Yi looked at his finger and said that he did not want to take this one off, and would like to wear two together later on.
Chen Keyao found out now that he really didn’t want to take it off, so much so that he had bought an identical one.
That’d make it a couple ring.
He suspected Rong Yi had spent all his annual bonuses.
Chen Keyao smiled foolishly while staring at the ring, and suddenly felt fortunate.
This guy was so good at spending money freely. Just as well now he was with him. Otherwise, he’d be a real worry.
And then he decided that after the Spring Festival holiday, before the editor came chasing after him, he would start working again. He wanted to open a new storyline. He had got the main characters set up already.
As for the old story, forget it.
He was having a good time thinking about all this, while that person lying in bed and getting really frustrated, couldn’t wait any more.
“What are you doing?” Rong Yi turned his head and stared at him.
But Chen Keyao could see that his stare was rather just an affectation, which could be categorized as pretending to be still staring at someone because he didn’t want to show embarrassment. Through the bluff and ferocity on the surface, in fact, it was all about expectations underneath.
What Rong Yi really wanted to ask now must be: do you like it or not, are you happy or not.
‘Of course I really like it and I’m really happy. Both men and rings are paired up now.’ Chen Keyao was so light-hearted that he jumped into bed.
He kissed Rong Yi happily twice, holding him in his arms, and Rong Yi’s attitude immediately softened.
“…Now Valentine’s Day presents are gone.” He whispered to Chen Keyao.
“It doesn’t matter. I……” Chen Keyao stopped with an emergency brake.
I haven’t got any present for you anyway.
That was not good. He was so busy with the Spring Festival holiday that he had not realised that it was going to be followed by Valentine’s Day. Well, a surprise gift had now been received in advance, and how could there be nothing in return!?
What if Rong Yi didn’t feel valued?
Chen Keyao was very panicked, and in order to cover up, he held Rong Yi in his arms and kissed more.
Just as well Rong Yi didn’t know what was going through his mind. He was responding very cooperatively, and the atmosphere was beginning to become steamy again. Just as Chen Keyao was thinking that making love for one more time would not affect their schedule tomorrow, he was suddenly pushed away.
Rong Yi’s face was red, and when he pushed him away, he unnaturally reached out to hold up his body, then bent over the edge of the bed and covered his mouth, facing the floor.
Chen Keyao stood for two seconds and frowned.
This kind of scene, not long ago, was still happening to the two of them. It was just the vomiting person changed.
“Are you okay?” Chen Keyao got out of bed, took the garbage bin over for him, and ran for a glass of water.
Seeing Rong Yi was in such pain, he was in a very complicated mood.
Things were going so well. How come he suddenly wanted to throw up when kissing? Surely it couldn’t be because he had eaten too much.
When Rong Yi finally looked up in tears, the two men looked at each other for a while, and suddenly both faces became stiff.
Neither of them said a word.
Chen Keyar’s heart started pounding once again.
It was true that he didn’t prepare any present, but God seemed to have prepared a big gift for them.
“Do you want to go to the hospital tomorrow?” He asked carefully.
Rong Yi swallowed saliva, nodded stiffly, then retracted into bed and covered his head with the duvet.
Chen Keyao had to use all his strength to get himself under the duvet, but Rong Yi just wouldn’t come out.
