Chapter 83: The daily life of a Dad-to-be
Rong Yi felt that he was being treated by Chen Keyao as a piece of fragile dangerous goods completely.
It had been more than a month since Chen Keyao had the cheek to point at his double red-lined pregnancy test stick and say “This is my Valentine’s Day gift to you.” Rong Yi didn’t feel anything unusual except occasional stomach upsets.
He was in a good spirit, had a big appetite and a lot of energy, so he was feeling really good about himself. After the medical check-up in a hospital, the doctor also said that the indicators were all perfect.
Chen Keyao disagreed.
When Rong Yi stepped on a chair to try to change the energy-saving light bulb in the living room, he was shocked, coming over to Rong Yi like a cyclone, screaming, and his face completely pale.
“Get down! It’s too dangerous! Let me do it!”
Rong Yi was pretty safe originally, but now he was so alarmed that he almost fell from his chair.
“Are you a little paranoid?” After Chen Keyao changed the light bulb, he couldn’t help but put forward his opinions. “I’ve changed so many light bulbs and I’ve never fallen off the chair.”
“Just in case,” Chen Keyao said, fishing his phone out from his pocket and showing the screen to him. “Which colour do you think is better?”
Rong Yi glanced with a frown: it was bathroom anti-slip pads.
“I have never had a fall in shower either.”
“Don’t you think it’s pretty?” Chen Keyao said, “Just use it as a decoration.”
No, it was totally not pretty. Chen Keyao’s bad taste even led Rong Yi to have doubt about his own appearance.
“Pick one?” Chen Keyao looked at him expectantly.
“…” Rong Yi gave up, “Let it be transparent then.”
Chen Keyao bought not only an anti-slip mat, but also many strange things. When Rong Yi came home from work one day, he found that the corners of all the furniture were covered with strange plastic in all sorts of colours.
“Now we don’t have to worry about bumping into them.” That was how Chen Keyao explained it.
“But it wouldn’t be a big deal even if I bump into them, would it?” Rong Yi saw that the four corners of the dining table had turned red, yellow, blue and orange, and said, “Who would walk normally at home and get a problem with table corners?”
“We wouldn’t, but kids are different. It’s safer to have them covered.” Chen Keyao said.
Rong Yi had nothing to say. It would be at least a few years before the kid grew up to be able to run around at home. Wasn’t it too early for this person to take precautions?
Looking at all the high-saturation rainbow colours around, Rong Yi felt he was nearly going blind.
“Don’t you think it’s quite ugly?” He asked.
“Children definitely like colours!” Chen Keyao looked quite pleased with himself.
After ordering Chen Keyao to tear down all these things, Rong Yi quickly found a strange electronic device in his room.
“It’s a multi-purpose early learning machine,” Chen Keyao said. “It is suitable for all children under three years of age. For early intelligence development, it is ….”
“…How come Sister Lan had not bought one for you to develop your intelligence?” Rong Yi said.
“It’s on sale.” Chen Keyao said.
Rong Yi sighed deeply.
Then he watched Chen Keyao bend down and start talking to his belly in a very fatherly manner.
“Baby, Dad bought it for you. Do you like it?”
Rong Yi said in his heart: Oh, my God.
People said that pregnancy would lower mothers’ IQ for 3 years, but in his family, it seemed to be the case with Chen Keyao.
“Do you normally feel it moving?” Chen Keyao looked up at him with great enthusiasm.
“No.” Rong Yi shook his head, “Come on, it’s less than three months! Will you give it some time?”
After a moment of thinking with a frown, Chen Keyao stuck his ears to Rong Yi’s still flat belly.
“What can you hear?” Rong Yi asked.
“Are you hungry?” Chen Keyao asked.
Rong Yi did get hungry very easily nowadays.
Chen Keyao was worried that he would continue to eat takeout at noon on his working days, and thought the leftovers from the night before might be unhealthy, so he delivered him a special lunch every day.
The food was freshly cooked every morning by the part-time helper he hired, and it tasted good. Rong Yi really enjoyed it, but also at the same time thought it was a bit over the top.
Chen Keyao not only drove his lunch over to him, but also drove him in to and back from work every morning and every afternoon
Not long, the whole company knew that Rong Yi had an Alpha who was totally doting on him.
It would be a lie to say that Rong Yi wasn’t feeling smug secretly.
“I told him not to bother, but he just wouldn’t stop. Oh well.”
When Rong Yi was showing off in front of the crowd, actually it still didn’t feel quite real to himself. After all, just over half a year ago, he was about to believe that he was going to be dying alone after an endlessly loveless life.
Chen Keyao was undoubtedly one of the great surprises in his life.
Surprise number two, was in his belly right now, only as big as the stone of a jujube.
In fact, when Rong Yi first got the confirmation of the emergence of a new life, he was far more shocked than pleased.
He and Chen Keyao had not even got their marriage certificate at the time, and time spent in their two-person world was far from enough. Each time they had taken necessary precautions.
It was only later that he and Chen Keyao discovered that the advertisement said that the contraceptive rate of liquid condoms was as high as 96.7%, but there was a small line next to this.
“The rate of sexual contraception in the reproductive cavity is as high as 64.4%.”
Rong Yi couldn’t understand how they could write “as high as” next to 64.4%.
But while Rong Yi and Chen Keyao had not been prepared to welcome new family members yet, when it did arrive, they could not help but look forward to it.
These days Chen Keyao was making preparations frantically. When he dragged Rong Yi to get their marriage certificate in a hurry on the day after Valentine’s Day, Rong Yi was in a happy mood.
But soon, he was exhausted.
The most frustrating part was, although it was very satisfying to show off his happiness in front of all the relatives and friends, he was actually starting to feel a little restless over time.
Doctors said the first three months of pregnancy were most unstable and it was most likely to have an accident, so the father had better restrain himself.
Chen Keyao was extremely restrained.
To the point when Rong Yi started to feel painful.
Actually before they found out about the pregnancy, there was no shortage of intense exercise, but everything was fine. Now that they knew there was a baby in there, Rong Yi thought it shouldn’t be a problem as long as they were careful not to disturb the cavity.
What a pity Chen Keyao didn’t cooperate.
“No, you don’t understand,” he said. “It’s a lot harder to be careful than doing nothing at all.”
Rong Yi really couldn’t understand.
Even if they didn’t go all the way, wouldn’t it be okay to just give a hug and a touch? But Chen Keyao would rather hold a pillow watching dad-to-be training videos than taking a look at the half-naked Rong Yi in bed.
Rong Yi gave him an ultimatum.
“If you don’t come over and kiss me now, I’ll……I just…… Just……”
Halfway through the threat, he realized that he had nothing to threaten Chen Keyao with.
Fortunately, Chen Keyao was very obedient. He ran over quickly with a pillow in his arms, bent over and kissed Rong Yi’s forehead quickly, then ran back to the computer equally quickly.
Rong Yi stopped being upset again.
“If you love to learn how to hold a baby so much, it’s all your job to hold the baby then.” He murmured.
Chen Keyao turned his back to him: “I’m afraid you would want to compete with me.”
Rong Yi ignored him and got under the duvet.
Chen Keyao rocked his pillow slightly as instructed by the video and said: “I’ve thought of a few names for it. Would you like to see them?”
Rong Yi held out a hand from under the duvet: “Show me.”
Chen Keyao handed over his phone, which showed a document.
“It seems that I have too many expectations and wishes for it, and I don’t know how to choose. I’m afraid I’m too greedy, which might be putting a lot of pressure on the poor kid, and the more I think, the less can I decide.” Chen Keyao said.
“…” Rong Yi looked at the full screen of characters and said, “Pick one that sounds best.”
