Chapter 367
Mary looked at Rebecca in bewilderment. “Who is he?”
….
Rebecca swallowed hard.
She had spent all of yesterday at the villa trying to please Lewis, but he was just icy cold to her and didn’t speak at all.
Just as she was about to inform Mary who Lewis was, she caught the man giving her a quick glance.
Immediately, Rebecca dared not say anything…
Mary then said, “No matter who he is, he looks young and handsome. Let me tell you. His stamina is also really good, way better than that nearly thirty-years-older Lewis! Plus, that man is a widower on his second marriage!”
The more she spoke, the more terrified Rebecca became, and she quickly explained, “Actually, Mr. Horton isn’t that bad…”
“Tsk tsk.” Mary looked her up and down, “Miss Allen, don’t tell me you still have improper thoughts about him. I’ve heard before that you always wanted to marry him…”
At this remark, Rebecca felt the chill around Lewis intensified.
She immediately waved her hands. “No, I don’t have that idea anymore…”
“You look down on him now, don’t you? After all, as long as you have enough money to spend and your parents can support you for a lifetime, it’s better to find yourself a young lover like Keera does than to marry a divorced man and potentially suffer later on, isn’t it?”
Rebecca was shocked.
She said, “No, it’s not that I look down on him…”
Mary asked, “You still fancy him? Alright, then go and compete with Victoria! To each their own!”
Rebecca was speechless.
Once more, she carefully and fearfully glanced at Lewis, only to see that he looked even more displeased. He took Keira’s hand. “You must be careful who you befriend in the future!”
“…”
Rebecca felt that she would never be able to come clean!
While they were chatting, Mrs. Jones finally came down the stairs with the two children. She looked at Keira with a joyous expression. “Miss South, you’re actually Uncle Olsen’s daughter! No wonder…”
No wonder she said last time that if Mr. Jones went to the Horton family, the deal would go through—it really did!
After pondering for a moment, Keira said, “There’s something I’d like to ask of you, which is to keep my identity a secret for now.”
Mary was slightly startled, recalling what Keera said about saving his mother and her secretive demeanor since childhood; she didn’t ask any more questions.
However, Rebecca immediately became anxious. “What’s wrong? Doesn’t Uncle Olsen want to acknowledge you and take you home? If that’s the case, forget about that home!”
Mrs. Jones also looked worriedly at her.
Seeing that everyone had misunderstood, Keira just smiled faintly. “No, it’s just that I still have some things to do, and that identity will hinder me.”
“As long as they want you back, there’s nothing to worry about.” Rebecca patted her chest.
Mary laughed at her. “You’re overthinking it. With Christina and Victoria in the Olsen family, how could they not want Keera, their precious daughter?”
After saying this, she looked at Keira. “We won’t tell, and you probably have made it clear to Uncle Olsen, but I can’t guarantee what Christina and Victoria will do, though.”
Keira wasn’t worried about them and just smiled. “Do you think they would tell anyone?”
Mary thought for a moment and came to a conclusion: Of course not!
As long as the Olsen family’s true daughter wasn’t at home, they could remain the honored daughters of the Olsen family. But if the biological daughter came back, the two adopted daughters would lose their position!
Realizing this, Mary smirked.
Mrs. Jones, however, seemed to hesitate, and she looked at Keira without speaking.
Keira understood what she meant and stood up immediately. “The Olsen family has entrusted me with the position of the kindergarten’s board director. I’ll take you back now and have George’s withdrawal canceled!”
Mrs. Jones was instantly delighted! She hadn’t expected Keira to be so perceptive and see right through her intentions. She had meant to bring this up just now, worried that if Keira refused to acknowledge her help, she wouldn’t be able to arrange the schooling for the child.
Gratitude appeared in her eyes. “Great!”
Rebecca and Mary stayed at home to keep Amy company, while the rest of the group left the house with Lewis acting as Keira’s driver. Mrs. Jones had her own car. The two cars traveled one after the other toward the kindergarten.
Just as they left the villa’s underground garage, Lewis paused for a moment and took a glance in the rearview mirror. In an inconspicuous spot in the distance, three cars were parked. A shadow passed through his eyes, and after a moment of contemplation, he looked back just in time to hear Keira ask, “Is it Uncle Olsen?”
Lewis nodded. “It looks like it.”
After saying this, he glanced at Keira again and said indifferently, “Uncle Olsen seems very domineering and authoritarian, but in fact, he’s quite righteous. He has a persistent affection for your mom and has remained unmarried all these years because of her. By the way…”
Lewis laughed a bit as he added, “Do you know why, initially, I went to the Olsen family on behalf of the Horton family to propose a marriage for Jake?”
Keira became momentarily lost in thought upon hearing this. At that time, she was forced by Poppy and Taylor into a shotgun wedding, only to discover at the courthouse that she was already married to Lewis. Thinking back to these events now, they seemed almost surreal.
Back then, she lived a stifling life with the Olsen family, oppressed and brainwashed by Poppy, struggling for freedom, and working hard at various jobs. Gradually, she established her own courier company, a repair business, and even later developed new energy sources, becoming Nora, and then…
Perhaps because of her lack of a sense of security since childhood, at that time, she was obsessed with earning more money, wanting to buy her own houses in various parts of the country. Instead of forever living under someone else’s roof, especially in that dark basement of the Olsen family.
Although life was hard back then, it was fulfilling. But such a life lasted only two short months before it was shattered. The mysterious South family… Her sister, who had appeared out of nowhere, died because of her… It seemed as if an ominous net called conspiracy had suddenly descended from the sky, entangling her firmly. She wanted to break free but had no idea where to start…
She could only let things take their course, feeling a profound sense of helplessness. Reflecting on her past life, she suddenly found the simplicity of those days more appealing.
Lost in her memories, Lewis continued to explain. “It was Uncle Olsen who sent me. Over the years, the Horton family has been assisting the Olsen family’s business, all because of Uncle Olsen’s care. He knew that if the Olsen family tried to help, my mother-in-law would never accept it…”
Mother-in-law… A surge of warmth passed over Keira’s face. Seeing that she didn’t react with aversion, Lewis continued. “When my mother-in-law fell ill, Uncle Olsen rushed to Oceanion overnight. It shows he has always been concerned about her. In fact, there’s a misunderstanding between the two of them…”
Keira immediately asked, “What misunderstanding?”
