Chapter 39: Crowdfunded Project

Since the upgraded effects stated it could minimize the weight, this feature seemed alright.
However, there was also an issue. Did spinning this toy around actually lower its total weight? Could this possibly be the work of magic that by spinning so fast, the weight of the object would not be able to catch up to it?
Lin Yu was alone in his room as he blankly stared at the Charge Blade for a long while. It seemed his plan to record another ‘craft’ video was impossible now.
‘Would the followers understand if I left a simple ‘Coo coo coo’ as a reason?… Possibly.’
Old Pigeon Demon Lin Yu silently comforted himself by searching for an excuse for his continuous hiatus of not uploading anything.
‘It’s not because I don’t want to upload, but it’s actually due to unforeseen circumstances that I can’t. Please don’t blame me.’
About to give up, Lin Yu had a thought and recorded a tiny snippet showcasing his Mechanical Charge Blade. He left a description in the comment section that read, ‘Preview: As long as I can spin fast enough, weight can never catch up to me.’
It was human nature to have a desire to express one’s self. Hence, the internet consisted of different professionals in different careers with social platforms to connect with people of similar interests, and there would always be geniuses in the comments or forums. This provided a wide variety of answers to all kinds of questions from users on the internet.
It did not matter if he himself did not know the answers, as long as the questions were within the boundaries of modern technology, someone else would be able to explain it to him. When that happened, all he had to do was compile all answers provided by these geniuses into a single theory, allowing him to make a half-baked video that was essentially crowdfunded for him. This was basically perfect.
…
After posting that description online, he locked the Mechanical Charge Blade back into his wardrobe and once again buried himself into building the Academic Genius System in his room.
Although he was an academic failure, he was different from Xu Zhaoyang and the others. They had only entered Changhai Vocational College because they were forced to but he had actually enrolled willing into his current course.
Programming was his only strength and ever since he was little, he was already interested and had the talents for it. He self-taught himself some programming languages while he was in middle school without mentoring and forced himself to pour over professional subject textbooks, even managing to discover some errors in these books.
Since that was the case and based on this theory, at the very least he should not be called an academic failure even though he was not an academic genius in that field. How did he become the worst amongst academic failures?
The reason was actually really simple. He was way too patriotic by birth1 and so, his patriotism made him cut ties with English.
2It did not matter to him if it was C Programming or C++ Programming. He was able to master it by reading books about it. However, after a certain period of time had passed, he could not understand coding and in the end, the only thing he learned was critical thinking in programming. He would occasionally write some code in a Chinese programming software as a form of self-entertainment.
Back then, he had registered for a media course in Changhai Vocational College, never bothering to try or put in any effort in the subject. Before he entered college, he would imagine all kinds of possibilities of him completely dominating his future. However, reality had given him a painful lesson.
A study environment had a huge impact on anyone, especially to academic failures like him who lacked severe self-control. He was fine for half a year when he had just started but after the teachers began loosening control along with the influence his roommates had on him… It made him end up like this.
High school teachers were known to put the pressure on their students, on the other hand, college mainly focused on the student’s own motivation to learn and if one was unable to adapt to such a change, they would fall behind everyone else no matter how naturally gifted they were.
In terms of programming language though, the only one he still somewhat understood was an insignificant programming software in Mandarin that only had a small targeted audience and it seemed it would not be possible for him to use the Chinese programming software now. Since he planned to use his cell phone’s Android System to operate his ‘Ultra Academic Genius System’, it would require him to code everything in JAVAscript. Due to this, he was forced to once again pick up where he left off, referring to the search engine to begin his arduous task of coding.
Although he knew how to write the code, he was unable to write it due to the language barrier. This was a frustrating process as he had to translate everything in the search engine while writing the code at the same time, slowing his entire pace to a crawl. A single Podomoro Interval was barely finished in a week.
Fortunately for him, he was getting used to coding and his pace began to speed up. Although his patriotic limits were completely forgotten, at least the time spent on coding every day was not.
“6pm already… Let’s see if there are any geniuses in the comments. The sooner I record this, the faster I get to bail.”
After burying himself with work for a really long time, he managed to shape a basic frame for his level up system. After picking up his phone to look at the time, Lin Yu got up to do some stretches.
The recent week was most probably being used in preparation for the dark energy waves and SLSH project announcement. It seemed like the ‘Related Department’ had put tremendous pressure to keep the current state of things under control and everything seemed to have gradually calmed down. The lives of most people were not interrupted and his father had also awakened his Superhuman Abilities so there was not too much concern in terms of safety.
However, he still had to return home every day in order to get some peace of mind. Besides, it would be difficult for him to explain all kinds of upgraded equipment to his roommates so he had no plans to move back into his school. He traveled back and forth every day, spending the day either coding or occasionally heading to class before he took a cab back home at night.
Zhou Jie and the others had returned to their usual days of skipping classes and wasting time. No one was in the room now so Lin Yu used this opportunity to record the Mechanical Charge Blade Video.
After he was done stretching, Lin Yu picked up his phone and opened the B site app and searched for the description he wrote before.
Descriptions and short videos did not have the option to leave a comment but discussions could be made. Thus, what he had initially intended to do was not too affected.
Since he now had over 1.2 million followers and due to how active they were, there were more than 2000 comments left in the discussion board in such a short time span.
“You’re finally uploading. It’s been an agonizing wait for me, you Pigeon Demon!”
“Why is it the Charge Blade? Where are the damn gauntlets? Where’s the upgraded version you’ve promised?”
“We wanna see the gauntlets in that violent battle!!! Not the damn Charge Blade! Graah!”
“What do you mean by gauntlets? I wanna see the card uncle!”
The discussion board was filled with people’s complaints about him not uploading and putting the gauntlets as a main priority. However, that was all normal since these million followers were here because of his Exo suit.
It was only after he filtered out these unrelated discussions did he finally see an actual discussion about his Charge Blade.
“??? What does that mean, adding a simple wheel to the Charge blade to upload as a new video? What on Earth are you doing?”
“You’ve changed, uploader. You’re no longer the same Hack Tech tech nerd I know.”
“Oh please, this is the true work of a Hack Tech, alright. Based on what the video has shown, adding a barbell plate onto the Charge Blade would make it lighter? What principle is that?”
“This is called the Gyro principle. It’s just basic gyration, simple science.”
“Gyro principle?”
“What on Earth?”
“The axis of a gyroscope. Please kill yourself if you ask any further.”
“I think the true Hack Tech is the battery powering the whole thing.”
“666, unexpected knowledge. Uploader, I thought you’re a tech nerd but the results have shown you’re an actual academic genius? I’m displeased.”
