Chapter 40: Propellant Poker
“Hmm.”
Lin Yu nodded his head as well… Similar to most online users, he too was confused by the answers given by the geniuses in the discussion board.
He silently took out Professor Li’s name card and put it back after taking a glance at it.
Based on what the geniuses on the discussion board said, it seemed like absolute child’s play so he felt that calling over to ask would be absolutely embarrassing and decided it would be best to consult Goddess Baidu.
After opening the search engine, he silently typed in ‘angled gyroscope’ into the search bar. Lo and behold, Goddess Baidu delivered and it came with an explanation.
“So that’s what it means.”
Lin Yu had a surprised look on his face… There were too many words and he could not bring himself to finish reading. His basic understanding of the topic was poor and he did not understand a thing.
Fortunately for him, the gracious internet users had given a few simple examples like a top that would not topple over when spinning, a moving bicycle would not topple over and more. He could somewhat understand the gist of it.
Lin Yu did not dwell on the topic for long. He picked up his Charge Blade and without touching the finer inner mechanics of the shield plates, he began disassembling the easier bigger parts and lacklusterly reassembled them back together. He also added a video demonstration and a very ‘lackluster’ handcraft video segment before calling it done.
The description was simple. “It’s troublesome to explain in detail and to prevent you guys from calling me lazy, please refer to Baidu to understand the inner workings of it if you are interested or consult the geniuses in the comments. If you have any opinions at all… You can beat me up if you’re able to travel across the internet!”
When he uploaded the video, the sky was already gradually turning dark. The only problem was that Xu Zhaoyang and the others had not returned yet. It seemed they were planning to camp out at a cyber cafe till 11 or 12 in the morning.
Lin Yu sighed, initially planning to invite the few of them to do some hard labor. He wrapped the Mechanical Charge Blade with a few clothes and hastily left campus while dragging the whole thing with him.
It would not be practical to keep the Charge Blade in the dorm so he decided to bring it home with him. It was a shame that he was unable to get help from slaves and was forced to drag it along with him. He was completely exhausted when he dragged it to the main gate and even the clothes wrapped around the Charge Blade were worn out, exposing a huge gaping hole.
Fortunately, he was now rich and had requested for the revenue paycheck transfer from B site yesterday. It would most probably be transferred to him after a few days and then he would finally and truly be financially independent.
Right now though…he was still dependent on the final allowance from his parents a few days ago. Since he had spent most of his savings on the Charge Blade, he also owed some money to Jack Ma. His remaining cash was barely enough for instant noodles so taking a cab home every day would be impossible.
Since he would be getting a few ten thousand yuan in his bank account in a few days, there was no need for him to save up and decided to call a cab when he arrived at the main gate.
“Little buddy, what on Earth are you carrying that’s this heavy? I originally thought it was a guitar.”
The driver helped Lin Yu carry the Mechanical Charge Blade to the back seat and asked him curiously while catching his breath.
“Just a recreation of a cosplay prop. It’s made from pure metal so it’s a little heavy.”
Lin Yu grinned.
“Oh, that. My niece is into those things too, something about cosupray[1]. She kept dressing up in weird clothes, playing around and swinging some plastic swords. This full metal build of yours isn’t cheap, right? Can it move?”
While the driver spoke, the familiar sound of the engine revving could be heard.
Cab drivers were known to be approachable and friendly. When they were met with customers who called ahead for a ride, they would be keen to chat for a couple of moments. The main point was to alleviate boredom and leave a good impression. This was especially important for e-hailing drivers to obtain a five-star rating.
“I can’t carry it. I didn’t think too much about the details when I made it back then so all I can do right now is store it at home.”
Lin Yu smiled. Since he had been feeling lonely for a long time today, he was also keen to chat with the driver. After a wholesome conversation, he soon arrived back home.
“You’re home? Hurry up and put your things aside. Come and do the dishes in a second. After that, dinner should be ready.”
Upon entering his house, the sound of the door opening startled Mother Lin, who was busy cooking at the moment. She yelled out while cooking at the same time.
On the other hand, Father Lin was busy practicing the metal playing cards Lin Yu had given him a while back in the living room and constant ‘swooshing’ sounds could be heard from the general vicinity.
“Alright, be there in a second.”
Lin Yu replied as he tossed his backpack and the Mechanical Charge Blade aside before heading over to the kitchen and began washing the bowls and chopsticks.
“Father, stop practicing. It’s time to eat.”
After setting up the table, Lin Yu called out to Lin Jin’s direction.
His family was a conservative traditional family and this meant the man was the head of the household. His father was a very traditional man who valued masculinity and after hearing of the recent events from Lin Yu, although he never directly spoken about it, he felt pressured on the inside. Thus, whenever he was free, he would spend time practicing his skills.
___
[Propellant Poker]
Rank (LV2): 842/10000
Description: Utilized pressure propellant and aerodynamics set of unique poker cards
Evaluation: Amazing speed and strength. Intricately made.
___
Lin Yu never made a ‘craft’ video for the newly upgraded poker cards. It was not because he did not want to, but it was because he could not do so.
The basic principle behind the Propellant Poker was simple. There were propelling vents at the sides of the poker card. On each edge of the card were mini turbines so whenever the poker cards flew, the vents would catch air through them and generate more airflow. This would cause the turbines to spin, exponentially increasing its flight speed and cutting strength. The stronger the toss, the greater the airflow. This meant that it would fly faster and its cutting strength would be stronger.
It sounded simple in theory but just as the evaluation had noted, it was intricately made.
The Propellant Poker was slightly thicker than the original. However, it was only as thick as a bank card. There were triangular covers on each edge which were thicker than the main body but not more than two bank cards.
However, it was in these areas that the poker cards contained air vents on the side, with mini turbines placed on each edge. This alone was not something that could be made with normal methods. He had no idea where to start when he first got it, so taking it apart would be out of the question.
“Do you know a man named Lin Hai?”
While the entire family were just sharing a meal, Lin Jin questioned him out of nowhere.
“Uncle Lin? Father, how do you know him?”
Lin Yu was stunned when he heard that.
“He came looking for me today. Told me about some Operation SLSH.”
The instant the thought came to Lin Jin’s mind, he calmly said, “I am unfamiliar with stuff like that, so I want to hear what your opinion is.”
The instant he heard his father unusually ask for his opinion, Lin Yu was once again stunned as he began nodding his head and said, “Shouldn’t be a problem. As long as you don’t accept any assignments and only do the livestreams, it should be fine. Besides, the benefits aren’t bad so it’s a good thing.”
After saying that, he began chuckling out loud and said, “Father, you weren’t a celebrity but you can become a huge streamer while mixing with the Superhero community.”
“Then, you can help me with that. I don’t know a thing about stuff like this.”
Lin Jin nodded and stopped speaking. He began eating silently, as it was his principle to remain silent during a meal.
[1] Cosupray was the author’s silent jab at the older generation being out of touch and inaccurate pronunciation to English words. The author meant Cosplay in that sentence.
