The doctor in charge behaved extremely respectfully towards Wind Chen. He looked like an obedient student meeting with the teacher he revered the most.
“My name is Wind Chen,” replied Wind Chen calmly.
“Doctor Chen, could you tell me in greater detail about the treatment method you used on the old lady? If you are willing to make it public, you might possibly become the most powerful person in the world of medicine in all of history.” The doctor was a lot more excited than his words could express.
“No, I can’t do that.” Wind Chen shook his head and smiled. “Before returning to civilization, I had promised my teacher that I would not make this method public. Sorry about that.”
“I understand, I understand. What a pity, what a pity.”
The doctor in charge was a little disappointed, but he didn’t dare to blame Wind Chen for not revealing it.
“Doctor, please go ahead and attend to other matters. There’s nothing left for you to do here.” The old lady started chasing the medical staff out of the room.
The doctor in charge smiled sadly and had no choice but to leave with his team.
Back in the room, the old lady said very seriously, “Wind Chen is Little Lola’s boyfriend.”
Boom.
This statement alone shocked everyone into silence.
Lola Chinn’s face turned crimson and even her ears were red. She secretly stole a glance at Wind Chen, and sweetness filled her heart when she saw that Wind Chen looked calm.
At the same time, Berg Chinn stared fiercely at Wind Chen as he scrutinized the young man from head to toe. He looked like a father-in-law sizing up his son-in-law. Despite looking satisfied with him, his gaze also seemed to treat him as an enemy.
Wind Chen felt his hair stand on end for a while from all the staring.
“Berg, give one of the 10 odd companies you’re in charge of to Wind. That’s both my welcome gift to my grandson-in-law, as well as to repay him for saving my life. Any issues?” the old lady asked Berg Chinn.
“No problem. I’ll see to it now.”
Berg Chinn immediately made a phone call to settle it.
An icy glint flashed in the other Chinn family members’ eyes when they heard that the old matriarch was giving Wind Chen a company.
“Mum, I think it’s better to use cash to repay Doctor Chen instead,” said a middle-aged man in a white shirt.
This man was Kai Chinn, the old lady’s second son, as well as the second in charge of the family.
She leveled a glance at Kai Chinn and said quietly, “Kai, I know what you’re thinking. You mean you think this life of mine is not even of equal worth to a company?”
“No, no, Mum, you know that’s not what I mean,” Kai Chinn hurried to explain himself as his forehead broke out in sweat.
“Then don’t say unnecessary things. That’s settled then.” The old lady put an end to any other objections.
“Er, Granny, you really don’t have to go to such lengths. I didn’t come here to save you because I wanted something out of you,” said Wind Chen.
“Silly boy, I’m hoping that you and Lola will be able to enjoy life in the future, so take it while I’m still alive. If I suddenly pass away one day, I’m afraid you and Lola might end up with nothing.”
The old lady spelled out reality plainly.
The faces of the other Chinn family members darkened upon hearing these words.
Meanwhile, the old lady sat up. She took Wind Chen’s hand in one hand and Lola Chinn’s hand in the other, then put their hands together as she said very solemnly, “Wind, you must take good care of our Lola from now on.”
“Er…sure, I will.”
Wind Chen nodded.
He was beginning to feel like he had played this joke a little too far, and he didn’t know how to get out of it now.
But Lola Chinn’s smile became more and more mesmerizing.
“I’ve discussed it, and I intend to transfer Worldread Culture Company to Wind. Someone from the company is rushing over right now. Mum, is that alright with you?” Berg Chinn asked the old lady with a smile.
She gave a pleased nod and said, “That company has been doing pretty well. I think it’s worth about a billion in the market right now? It has a bright future ahead, so it’s good for Wind and Lola to manage. Berg, you’ve done a good job.”
Berg Chinn just laughed along and didn’t say anything else.
Shortly after that, Berg Chinn saw to it that Worldread Culture Company was properly transferred to Wind Chen. To the Chinn family, Wind Chen had pretty much struck lottery.
But Wind Chen didn’t look particularly excited or affected emotionally at all.
This was just a company worth around a billion dollars. Even if it were worth 10 billion dollars, it was still merely a small sum to Wind Chen.
That was because Wind Chen had US$5 billion in an international bank account somewhere out there, but it had been frozen temporarily.
Besides, given his prowess, earning big bucks was a piece of cake.
Wind Chen’s calmness throughout the transaction made different members of the family react differently.
The more the old lady looked at Wind Chen, the more pleased she was with him. She smiled widely and said, “This young man has a really steady character. Not bad, not bad. You’re worthy of Lola.”
“He is not bad indeed,” Berg Chinn gave a rarely heard compliment.
Most ordinary people would never have remained this calm if they were to suddenly own a company worth at least a billion dollars. Nobody could pretend to be calm for long.
“Thank you, Granny. Thank you, Uncle Chinn.”
Wind Chen bowed slightly.
“Tsk, aren’t you going to bow to me too? If you marry Lola in the future, you’ve got to call me ‘Uncle’ too,” said Kai Chinn with an insincere smile on his face.
“You? Nah, not you. Sorry about that.”
Wind Chen smiled faintly.
“Punk, don’t think that just because you know a bit of medicine, you can do whatever you want. I could f*cking—”
Pak.
Before Kai Chinn could finish his sentence, Wind Chen raised his hand and slapped him across the face.
The sound of the slap made everyone’s eyes widen.
“Do not curse unnecessarily in front of me like this. I don’t like it, and I won’t let you just do whatever you like. Do you understand?” Wind Chen spoke calmly.
“F*ck you! How dare you hit my dad! I’m gonna kill you!”
Wilton Chinn flew into a terrible rage and raised his hand to hit Wind Chen.
Just before Wilton Chinn’s hand was about to strike Wind Chen, he realized he couldn’t move it any further, as if he had been stopped by an invisible force.
Wilton Chinn’s face was all red from trying, but his fist simply couldn’t move at all. It was a strange sight to behold.
The old lady’s eyes narrowed, then turned into joy as she said loudly, “I know! You’re a martial arts grandmaster! Wind must be a martial arts grandmaster! I’ve heard people talk about such grandmasters before. They can channel their internal energy outside of their bodies, so they are able to hold on to things from a distance and kill their enemies from a distance. And of course, they are able to block attacks with this same energy.”
Boom.
These words from the old matriarch caused an uproar among the Chinn family.
But the faces of Kai Chinn and Wilton Chinn instantly paled.
The words ‘martial arts grandmaster’ felt like a grand mountain pressing down on them, and they could barely breathe.
“Wilton Chinn! If you don’t want to die, kneel and apologize right now!” shouted Berg Chinn.
Thud.
Wilton Chinn was unable to withstand the tremendous pressure coming from Wind Chen. Once he heard Berg Chinn shout at him, his knees gave way and he knelt before Wind Chen.
“Brother…Brother Chen, I was wrong,” said Wilton Chinn through clenched teeth.
“I hope this will be the last time you provoke me,” said Wind Chen calmly.
“Of course, of course. I wouldn’t dare to do it again,” responded Wilton Chinn quickly.
His father kept his head bowed, and his gaze was dark. The words ‘martial arts grandmaster’ were frightening to him, but he simply couldn’t bring himself to apologize.
Wind Chen glanced at Kai Chinn, but didn’t demand that he apologize. Instead, he turned to the old lady and smiled. “Granny, I have other things to attend to, so I’ll visit you another day.”
“Sure, run along. Lola, see Wind out,” ordered the old lady with a kindly look.
“Sure.”
Lola Chinn nodded.
“Uncle Chinn, I’ll take my leave first,” Wind Chen bid Berg Chinn farewell.
“Thanks for everything tonight. Take care,” replied Berg Chinn.
By the time Lola Chinn and Wind Chen walked out of Chanyang Hospital, it was already past ten o’clock at night.
Lola Chinn stood next to Wind Chen and said quietly, “Thank you so much for tonight. If not for you, my grandmother wouldn’t have made it.”
“No need to thank me,” said Wind Chen with a laugh. “All I did was to insert a few needles, and I got a billion-dollar company in return. That’s definitely a good deal for me!”
“Tsk, what a money-grubber! Do you want to consider taking a beauty home as well?”
Lola Chinn walked closer to Wind Chen and fluttered her round and pretty eyes. Those bright eyes seemed able to talk.
