“Brother, this…this is a misunderstanding. You wanted me to pay you back, right? Give me a few minutes. Let me send a message to my men to bring the money here.”
Laoba Zhang nodded and laughed along ingratiatingly. His attitude turned 180 degrees.
Wind Chen’s lips twitched as he smiled dryly. “You’re going to call your men to come and thrash me, aren’t you?”
“Wha-?” Laoba Zhang froze for a while before quickly continuing, “I wouldn’t dare to do that, of course not.”
“I know you’re not going to take this lying down. Call your men over then. Call everyone you can call. The more formidable they are, the better. I’ll wait right here for you.”
Wind Chen wasn’t afraid at all.
Laoba Zhang felt a sense of humiliation that he had never felt before.
He was a big shot in Chanyang and had more than a hundred subordinates. Even other big shots in Chanyang would treat him courteously when they saw him.
At the moment, this young man, who was at least 20 years younger than him, clearly had no regard for him whatsoever. This really pissed Laoba Zhang off greatly.
“Are you sure you want to go all the way with this?” Laoba Zhang started to look grim.
“I’ll give you five minutes. Oh, now you’re left with four minutes.”
Wind Chen was very composed.
“Excellent, just excellent. You wait here.”
Laoba Zhang immediately made a phone call.
“Call all the brothers in the hotel to come down right now. We’ve got trouble. Bring weapons.”
After hanging up, Laoba Zhang regained his confidence, and ruthlessness filled his eyes.
After looking around, Wind Chen smiled and said, “Little Zhang, aren’t you going to turn the surveillance cameras off?”
“What?” Laoba Zhang couldn’t believe his ears.
Did this youngster just call him Little Zhang?
Who the f*ck did this boy think he was?
But since Wind Chen wanted to turn off the cameras, Laoba Zhang was more than happy to do that for him.
Laoba Zhang was so incensed. “Jade, tell them to turn off the cameras. I’m going to make sure we kill this little bastard later.”
“Yes, Mr. Zhang.”
The receptionist immediately carried out Laoba Zhang’s orders.
At the same time, the receptionist glanced at Wind Chen with a look of sympathy.
She knew that Laoba Zhang had a few dozen subordinates who stayed permanently in this hotel.
After a short while, she informed Laoba Zhang that all the cameras had been switched off.
At the same time, men poured out continuously from the elevators and the staircases.
Some were in nice suits, while some were just in their boxer shorts. Everyone had something in their hands–wooden clubs, knives, and even steel pipes!
“Brother Zhang, is this the fellow?”
A young man with a steel pipe in hand pointed at Wind Chen with a sinister smile on his face.
“That’s him. Cripple him. But this fellow knows some martial arts, so be careful,” said Laoba Zhang frostily.
“He’s all by himself, so there’s only so much he can do. Brothers, let’s cripple him!” the young man ordered, and a few dozen men charged towards Wind Chen at the same time in the spacious lobby of the hotel.
“You little son of a b*tch! How dare you offend our Brother Zhang! You must be tired of living!”
“Kill him!”
All the men were shouting away and sounded very threatening.
Wind Chen rotated his neck to warm up, and his gaze suddenly became extremely astute, as if an invincible sword blessed by the gods that had been hidden in a deep dark cave had suddenly been unsheathed
“It’s been a long time since I exercised my joints and muscles. I’m going to use all of you as practice.”
Wind Chen made his move.
He didn’t look like much when he stood there without moving. But once he made a move, he proved to be as destructive as lightning and thunder.
Bam, bam, bam!
Wind Chen dashed into the crowd and didn’t even use any qi. He swung his fists and sent dozens flying in seconds. His strength was simply astounding.
The rest of the fight was really just Wind Chen’s solo performance time.
It was as if he was a War God that had descended upon the earth. His movements were elegant and ethereal, as if he was a high-level martial artist who walked right out of a movie. Even though he was being attacked by a few dozen men at the same time, he could defeat all of them singlehandedly and was practically invincible.
All the steel pipes, wooden clubs, sabers, and other weapons that the men had brought along broke upon contact with Wind Chen’s fists as if they were merely dead and dry tree branches. This terrifying scene frightened Laoba Zhang and the receptionist so much that they felt like their eyes were about to pop out of their sockets.
The fight was over in just two minutes.
The few dozen men that Laoba Zhang had called together were all sprawled on the floor, and their howls of pain filled the entire lobby.
Thud.
Laoba Zhang peed in his pants.
“Are you going to comply now?”
Wind Chen’s expression was relaxed and unbothered, and not a single drop of sweat could be seen on his face. It was as if he had done something simple that wasn’t worth mentioning.
Pak, pak, pak!
Laoba Zhang slapped himself hard several times and said in a trembling voice, “I’ll comply, I’ll comply. I’m so sorry. I was blind and didn’t realize you were so powerful. Please, please be magnanimous and spare my life.”
“You owe my father-in-law, Zander Ye, one million dollars. Are you going to return the money now?”
Wind Chen stared at Laoba Zhang.
Laoba Zhang didn’t dare to meet Wind Chen’s gaze at all. After he heard the question, he immediately replied, “I’ll return it now. Right now! I’ll transfer the money now.”
“Good.”
In a few minutes, Laoba Zhang had swiftly transferred a million dollars to Wind Chen.
Wind Chen then flung the IOU at Laoba Zhang. He had cleared this debt.
“Laoba Zhang, the police will be here for an investigation shortly. I prefer to keep a low profile. You know what to say later, right?”
“Yes, yes, I know,” replied Laoba Zhang anxiously. “My own brothers were having an internal disagreement. Sir, if you need me to do anything, just let me know and I’ll get it done for you!”
“Excellent. I like young people who know the right thing to do at the right time. I’m off!”
Wind Chen waved his hand, then stuffed both hands into his pockets as he walked out of Chanlye Hotel.
The receptionist, Jade, was still staring at Wind Chen’s back in a daze as she started to dream.
If she could become the woman of such a man, she didn’t mind even being a mistress.
Pak.
Just when Jade was still building sandcastles in the air, Laoba Zhang slapped her across the face and woke up her up from her beautiful dream.
“What, are you smitten with that guy? If someone of your lousy standard tried to carry his shoes, he would still despise you for being too gross for the job. Humans ought to have high levels of self-awareness, you hear me?” Laoba Zhang yelled at her. It was obvious he was venting all his frustrations on the girl.
Jade nodded with an upset look on her face, and tears welled up in her eyes.
“Also, remember, you didn’t see anything just now. Be mindful of what you tell the police later.”
…
Wind Chen returned to the house at around noon time.
The entire family was in, including Queena Ye.
She had purposely chosen not to go to work because she was worried about Wind Chen. When she saw that Wind Chen had come back in one good piece, she finally breathed a long sigh of relief.
“Judging from what you look like, I’d bet you didn’t get the money back, right? What a useless fellow. I don’t know why you like to pretend you’re not useless,” mocked Sue Lee.
“Laoba Zhang is a ruthless fellow who’s well known to be stingy and impossible to deal with. Getting the money back is impossible,” muttered Penn Zen.
Zander Ye said calmly, “I gave you a chance, but it’s too bad. You’ve really disappointed me.”
“That’s quite enough, all of you.” Queena Ye frowned and said, “All of you know what sort of person Laoba Zhang is, and you know well that it’s impossible to get any money back from him. Dad, that’s why I said that you’re obviously making things difficult for Wind by telling him to collect this debt.”
“Who said I didn’t get the money back?”
Wind Chen broke his silence, and the entire household instantly fell silent for a moment.
After saying that, Wind Chen took his phone out and showed the details of the last transaction to Zander Ye.
Zander Ye looked at the details carefully and said with a shocked look, “You…you actually got it back.”
Both Penn Zen and Mina Ye instantly looked astonished.
Queena Ye also had a look of disbelief and didn’t know how to react.
When Sue Lee heard that Wind Chen got the money back, her eyes immediately lit up, and she snatched the phone from Zander Ye’s hands.
Once she had confirmed the transaction was true, the first thing she did wasn’t to acknowledge or accept Wind Chen. Instead, she said very impatiently, “Wind, hurry up and transfer the money to me.”
“Wind, you’ve done a good job, so as we agreed earlier, you will take 600,000 dollars, and you can transfer the remaining 400,000 dollars to your mum,” said Zander Ye.
“That won’t do!” Sue Lee immediately disagreed loudly. “This was money you lent to Laoba Zhang back then, and it was OUR money. Why should we give Wind Chen 600,000 dollars? Wind, you’ve got to transfer all the money to me. Not a cent less!”
