Chapter 25: Not an Accident
“Too late,” scoffed Queena Ye.
But actually, she was secretly laughing to herself right now.
The night passed, and Wind Chen woke up early the next morning. After cultivating in the yard for half an hour, he prepared breakfast for Queena Ye.
When Queena Ye was done eating and was about to leave, Wind Chen offered to send her to work. After that drugging incident by Chad Wang, Wind Chen was worried that someone might try to harm Queena Ye on her way to work.
They seemed to have created a number of enemies recently, including the Yans, the Loongs, and Fae Lee. None of them were characters who would sit still and do nothing.
Of course, they were all as puny as ants to Wind Chen.
But from Queena Ye’s perspective, if all of them were to turn on her at the same time, she wouldn’t be able to save herself.
“Why do you suddenly want to send me to work?” Queena Ye was suspicious.
“I’m in a good mood today,” replied Wind Chen with a smile.
“Tsk! Fine, you drive.”
Queena Ye threw the car keys to Wind Chen.
Wind Chen caught them easily, and they walked out of the house together.
Zander Ye and Sue Lee were looking at them from behind with nasty expressions on their faces.
“Do you think Queena has really fallen for Wind Chen?” Sue Lee asked Zander Ye.
“From the looks of it, she might really have.” Zander Ye rubbed the stubble on his chin and went into deep thought.
“This will not do. We must find a way to stop this from happening. Wind Chen is a useless thing with no money and no capabilities. Queena will have a hard life if she gets together with him,” said Sue Lee very earnestly.
“You’re right,” Zander Ye agreed fully with her.
After thinking about it, Sue Lee whispered, “Tell you what, let’s find time to talk to Wind Chen, return him his money, and then offer him more on top of that for him to leave on his own accord. What do you think? If Wind Chen decides to leave on his own, Old Master Ye won’t blame us.”
“We could try.” Zander Ye nodded.
…
Meanwhile, Wind Chen was driving Queena Ye to work.
They laughed and chatted merrily along the way and did really look like a loving young couple.
But halfway through, a large truck with no license plate suddenly came charging toward Wind Chen’s car like a ferocious tiger that had suddenly lost control.
Wind Chen noticed this in the rear mirror, and his expression changed as his gaze instantly darkened. He thought of speeding up to change lanes but couldn’t because there were cars in front of him.
Queena Ye had noticed the oncoming truck too, and her face turned as white as a sheet.
“Queena, don’t be afraid.”
In that split second, Wind Chen suddenly stepped on the brakes and made a lunge for the front passenger seat without hesitation. He pulled Queena Ye into his arms and then released spirit energy to create a protective barrier around Queena Ye.
Kaboom!
The next moment, the large truck crashed into the car from behind.
The car instantly turned into scrap metal, and black smoke rose from the vehicle.
Screams could be heard all around.
The driver of the truck with no license plate smiled mirthlessly before quickly hopping out of the truck and pretended to be in a panic as he looked at the car that had turned into scrap metal because of the collision.
He was sure that Queena Ye and Wind Chen were definitely crushed beyond recognition and dead by now.
However, that wasn’t the case at all.
Right now, Queena Ye had been well protected by Wind Chen within the crushed car and was perfectly fine.
But Wind Chen was hurt. His back was a mess of blood and flesh. He felt like all his organs were churning, and there was blood dribbling from his mouth.
Everything had happened too quickly earlier, and the amount of energy he could gather had been too little. The protective barrier he created was only big enough to protect Queena Ye, while he had to bear the tremendous impact of the collision.
If an ordinary person was hit like this, he would definitely have been completely crushed.
“Wind, are you all right? Don’t scare me!”
Queena Ye’s voice cracked as she held Wind Chen’s face in her fair hands and wiped the blood away from his lips.
“I’m…I’m fine.”
Wind Chen forced a smile and then stretched a hand out to make a hole through the roof. He carried Queena Ye in his arms and jumped right out of the car.
This scene made all the drivers around them gape in shock.
“Good heavens! They’re still alive even after such a collision? This is a miracle! It’s a miracle!”
“It’s not their time to go yet, I suppose.”
“That was terrifying! I’m so glad nobody died.”
“Does that truck driver even know how to drive? The roads are so jammed, but he was driving so fast! What a horrible person!”
Many different voices and opinions filled the air.
Wind Chen coughed a few times, and more mouthfuls of blood came out.
He was quite upset about this. A large truck was indeed a force to be reckoned with, especially since he had been caught off guard. Even though he was a cultivator, he was still hurt.
“Hang in there, I’ll call for an ambulance immediately.”
Queena Ye tried to hold her tears back as she frantically searched for her phone.
“No need.” Wind Chen held Queena Ye back. “Wifey, I’ve got really rough skin and loads of meat to spare. Don’t worry, this is nothing.”
“Wind, please, cherish your body, will you? Listen to me, all right?” Queena Ye’s voice started trembling a little.
When she thought about how Wind Chen had lunged over to protect her one second before the collision happened, she felt like even her soul was trembling in fear. Her heart really ached when she saw how Wind Chen was now covered in blood.
“My friend, this accident was my fault. You’d better get yourself checked at the hospital first.”
The driver of the truck with no license plate came over with a guilty look on his face.
Wind Chen glanced at the truck that didn’t have any license plate and then glanced at the middle-aged driver. A frosty smile appeared on his lips. “Who paid you to do this?”
The middle-aged driver’s expression fell when he heard these words.
Immediately after that, a sharp dagger slid out from his sleeve.
“Go to hell!”
The middle-aged driver tried to stab Wind Chen.
“Wind, watch out!” Queena Ye shouted loudly, and her face was pale with fright. Her first thought was to stand in front of Wind Chen to block the attack.
But she had barely moved when the middle-aged driver strangely ended up kneeling in front of Wind Chen instead. The hand that held the dagger fell limply to his side.
Nobody who had witnessed this scene understood why the middle-aged driver had suddenly fallen to his knees.
But judging from the driver’s actions, everyone soon realized that this wasn’t a simple car accident. It was very likely to be an actual murder attempt.
“You’ve offended people who you shouldn’t have. Two powerful families of Chanyang want you dead. You got lucky today, but I promise you, you won’t live for much longer than this.”
“Looks like you’re very confident.” Wind Chen took the dagger from the driver’s hand and squatted down, and then with a sudden surge of energy, he crushed the dagger into a harmless ball of metal.
He only allowed the driver to witness that.
The driver’s pupils constricted violently, and he looked like he had just seen a ghost. Huge beads of sweat immediately trickled down his face.
What the hell was that? This fellow actually crushed a dagger with his bare hands and made the dagger look even more fragile than tofu. Was this guy even human?
This young fellow wasn’t a human but some deity of sorts. It was little wonder that even though their car had been so badly crushed in the collision, the two passengers in the car had escaped relatively unscathed.
Offending someone like him for the sake of little money was as good as asking to be killed.
“Tell me, do you think I’m capable of crushing your head in the same way?” Wind Chen asked the driver softly.
“I’ll talk, I’ll talk.” The driver caved in. “It’s Lance Yan and Phil Loong. They promised me $10 million if I knock you and your wife down.”
“Just as I had expected.”
Wind Chen had no expression on his face.
Wind Chen just knew Phil Loong wouldn’t stop until he got his revenge, but he didn’t expect Lance Yan to have involved himself in this matter as well.
“These two men are really psychos, and they’re completely inhumane.”
Queena Ye was furious, and a hateful feeling welled up in her heart. She even felt the urge to kill Phil Loong and Lance Yan herself.
“My…my friend…I was blinded by greed, but I know my mistakes. Please, please spare my life!”
The driver kowtowed nonstop.
“Don’t worry. I wouldn’t kill you in broad daylight, would I? Someone will come and arrest you in a while.”
Wind Chen patted the driver’s head.
This looked like a simple pat on the head, but Wind Chen had secretly left a wisp of spirit energy inside the driver’s head.
This little bit of energy was going to eventually cause the death of this driver.
There was no way Wind Chen would let off this heartless driver who had been willing to commit murder for the sake of money.
