“Wind, the police will come and arrest this man. I’ll borrow a phone to call for an ambulance first. You’ve got to get to the hospital.”
Queena Ye started taking action.
Even though Wind Chen still looked energetic, his bloody back looked very frightening. She was really afraid that something might happen to Wind Chen if he didn’t get to the hospital soon, so she didn’t want to delay treatment.
An older driver by the side piped up, “Miss, I’ve already called for an ambulance.”
“I’ve already called the police,” said another driver.
“Thank you! Thank you so much!”
Queena Ye bowed to thank them. She was so touched.
Good people outnumbered bad people in the world after all!
The driver of the truck with no plate was still kneeling on the ground, and he didn’t even dare to breathe too loudly.
He simply couldn’t figure it out. The car was crushed beyond recognition, but Queena Ye was perfectly fine, while Wind Chen’s life wasn’t in any danger. He hadn’t even lost a limb.
This was completely illogical!
“Does it hurt?”
Queena Ye held Wind Chen’s hand.
“It doesn’t hurt.” Wind Chen shook his head.
“You’re lying.” Queena Ye began to cry. “I’m sure it hurts a lot.”
Wind Chen just laughed. It really didn’t hurt, because he had harnessed the energy within his body, and it was already healing his wounds.
Not long after that, the authorities arrived at the scene and took the truck driver away.
They took down Wind Chen and Queena Ye’s statements, and then Queena Ye got into an ambulance with Wind Chen and went to the hospital to get Wind Chen checked properly.
Her heart finally calmed down after the doctors confirmed that Wind Chen had no internal injuries. She borrowed the nurse’s phone and called Sue Lee.
“Mum, it’s Queena. I borrowed a phone from the nurse. Wind and I got into a car accident earlier.”
“What? Queena, are you alright? Which hospital are you at?” Sue Lee went into a panic.
“Mum, relax, you don’t have to come to the hospital. I’m fine, and I’m not hurt at all. But Wind is a little injured because he tried to protect me,” said Queena Ye.
She didn’t want Sue Lee to come because she didn’t want her mother to say all sorts of awful things to irritate Wind Chen while he was still recovering from his injuries.
“Wind Chen got injured protecting you? So is he crippled yet?”
Sue Lee felt rather surprised by this, and, at the same time, her voice became strangely excited.
Queena Ye sighed and said, “In any case, you don’t have to worry. We’re both fine. I’ll hang up now.”
She hung up and passed the phone back to the nurse.
When he saw that Queena Ye had hung up, Wind Chen said, “You’d better go to the office quickly. Phil Loong and Lance Yan will probably do something to your company. Also, remember to tell Old Master Ye about it. His company will have to beware of the Loongs and the Yans too.”
“I’m not going. It doesn’t matter what happens. I can’t just abandon you here,” said Queena Ye resolutely, even though she knew that her company was definitely undergoing a crisis right now.
“I’m really fine. These are just abrasions, and I can manage. You’d better run along,” urged Wind Chen softly.
Queena Ye bit her lip, thought about it for a while, then said gently, “I’ll come and accompany you tonight then. You are to stay here for treatment, and you are not to go running about, you hear me?”
“Got it.” Wind Chen nodded.
“Remember, don’t go running about.”
Queena Ye finally left after reminding him one more time.
Wind Chen lay on the bed in the ward, and his expression slowly grew frostier.
He was so glad that he had personally sent Queena Ye to work in the morning. If Queena Ye had driven herself, she would have been crushed beyond recognition in that collision with the truck.
“Phil Loong, Lance Yan, it looks like the two of you are really tired of living.”
Wind Chen already had a plan in mind.
Knock, knock.
Just then, someone knocked on the door twice.
A female doctor in a white coat walked in with some nurses.
The female doctor was tall and slim, with fiery lips, white teeth, and a gentle and friendly smile on her exquisite oval face. She asked Wind Chen gently, “Hello, my name is Jane Li. Are you feeling unwell anywhere?”
“I’m feeling fine. Thanks for the concern, Doctor Li,” replied Wind Chen with a smile.
“I’m only doing what I ought to. I saw photos from the car crash, and it’s really a miracle that you and your girlfriend actually managed to survive. In fact, it seems to defy logic. Do you ever feel that your body is different from an ordinary human?”
There was great curiosity in Jane Li’s eyes.
“Doctor Li, you look really pretty when you smile.”
“Wha-?” Jane Li was taken aback.
So were all the other nurses with her.
Immediately after that, Jane Li teased him, “Your girlfriend’s just left, and you start complimenting other women on their looks? Have you been possessed by the spirit of a Casanova?”
“Sorry, it seems like I don’t have any resistance against the gorgeous and gentle Doctor Li.” Wind Chen smiled.
Jane Li laughed merrily. She was actually feeling quite happy about that. All women liked being complimented.
Of course, she knew that Wind Chen had purposely changed the topic so suddenly in order to avoid answering her question.
However, the nurses with her glared angrily at Wind Chen as they called him a scoundrel and a pervert in their minds.
Jane Li didn’t force Wind Chen to answer her earlier question. She just checked his file, then said with a smile, “Have a good rest. Press the button over there if you need anything.”
“I would like to be discharged,” said Wind Chen.
“No, you can’t,” replied Jane Li seriously. “Even though you aren’t badly injured, the wounds on your back are quite serious.”
“I’m a practitioner of Chinese medicine myself, Doctor Li. Please let me be discharged.”
“Stop pretending and just stay here, alright? Shea, watch him well. If he gets away, you don’t have to come to work tomorrow,” said Jane Li with a smile.
“Don’t worry, Doctor Li, I’ll watch him well.”
The nurse, Shea Tang, swung her little fists.
Jane Li nodded and left with the other nurses.
Shea Tang was left behind to have a staring match with Wind Chen.
Wind Chen sized Shea Tang up and found that this nurse was cute and charming, and, most of all, very imposing.
Shea Tang started feeling awkward from the way he stared at her, so she couldn’t help but snap fiercely at him, “What are you looking at? Watch what those thieving eyes of yours are looking at.”
“If you don’t want me to stare at you, go out of the room then.”
“So that you can escape? You can forget about trying to fool me this way,” sneered Shea Tang.
“Do you have a boyfriend?” asked Wind Chen.
“That’s my private affair. Don’t you dare think that you can simply ask other people such personal questions just because you’re good-looking.” Shea Tang’s expression turned cold.
Pfft.
Wind Chen couldn’t hold his laughter back.
…
Meanwhile, Queena Ye had just reached the office and was bombarded with bad reports from her subordinates.
“Ms. Ye, all sales channels are either refusing to work with us or they’re terminating their contracts.”
“Ms. Ye, many websites are now trying to poach our authors with offers of higher pay. Three out of our top five have already made the jump to other platforms.”
“Ms. Ye, our customer service bot has been hacked, and our website has crashed.”
A string of bad news caused Queena Ye to look grim, and her face was a little pale too.
It was very obvious that the mastermind behind all these problems were the Loongs and the Yans. They were creating trouble for Star Cultural on all fronts so that her company would be in dire straits.
However, Queena Ye didn’t collapse. She calmly gave out instruction after instruction, and an hour later, she managed to stabilize the situation.
But before she even had the time to drink a mouthful of water, her phone started ringing.
Once she picked up the call, Fae Lee’s voice came from the other side, “Hello, my lovely cousin. Let me guess, you’re probably up to your neck in trouble, aren’t you?”
Queena Ye frowned. “Fae, what do you mean by that?”
“Wasn’t that useless husband of yours really arrogant and even dared to hit me? I’m going to watch and see if he’s able to turn the tides for you.” Fae Lee laughed coquettishly and sounded like she was very happy.
Queena Ye instantly realized what happened, and coldness filled her eyes. “Fae Lee, we had some disagreements, but we ought to sit down as a family and talk it out. Now, you’ve ganged up with others to bully your own family? Don’t you think you’ve gone too far?”
“Family? Who’s your family? It’s already too late to say all this. Isn’t Wind Chen very capable? Tell him to help you then! Bye!”
Fae Lee hung up with a sneer.
