Queena Ye was an understanding woman. If Wind Chen didn’t want to talk about his past, she wasn’t going to ask him about it.
“By the way, when I came home, both Mum and Dad had grim expressions on their faces, and they ignored me completely. What happened?”
Queena Ye frowned slightly as she changed the topic.
“Mum said she was going to the hospital for a check-up. Could the doctors have found something wrong with her?”
“What? I’m going to ask her.” Queena Ye hurried back downstairs.
Wind Chen straightened his collar, then went down as well.
Of course, he knew that Sue Lee must have found out about her illness.
Queena Ye quickly ran over and sat down next to Sue Lee. She asked quietly, “Mum, what’s wrong with you?”
Sue Lee’s eyes were glazed over, and she didn’t respond at all.
“Mum, if something’s wrong, say so! You’re driving me nuts with anxiety.”
Queena Ye nudged Sue Lee, but Sue Lee still looked like she was in a daze.
“Queena, let your mum have some peace and quiet.”
Zander Ye sighed.
“Dad, what’s wrong with Mum?” Queena Ye was getting more and more anxious.
Zander Ye opened his mouth to speak, then stopped himself, then gave another long sigh.
Wind Chen had come downstairs and picked up an apple on the way. While chewing on the apple, he said, “There’s a tumor in Mum’s brain, and it’s begun to rot. About two or three months later, her scalp will also start to rot, and it will become one large bloody hole.”
“Don’t say anymore! Don’t say anymore!” Sue Lee suddenly started shrieking.
She lost control of her emotions and wanted to stand up, but the moment she stood up, she felt her surroundings spinning and nearly blacked out.
“Mum, don’t get so worked up. Calm down.”
Queena Ye quickly tried to console her.
Zander Ye was also busy consoling Sue Lee. “Sue, modern medical science is so advanced. I’m sure this illness can be cured. If we can’t get treatment here, we can always go overseas. We’ve got enough money anyway, so you don’t have to worry.”
“I can’t be cured. There’s no cure,” murmured Sue Lee. “The doctor already said that this is a late-stage tumor. Even if I get surgery done, the success rate is extremely low. And even if the surgery is successful, I’m likely to spend the later part of my life either as a retard or a vegetable. What’s the point of staying alive then? I’d rather die!”
“How did this happen?”
Queena Ye’s eyes welled up, then tears rolled down her fair cheeks.
This news had struck her like a bolt of lightning.
While it was true that Sue Lee often talked too much and wasn’t likable at all, she was still her mother after all.
Wind Chen soon finished eating his apple and started to feel bad when he saw how Sue Lee and Queena Ye were hugging each other and crying.
He didn’t really care about the fact that Sue Lee was crying, but he didn’t want to see Queena Ye look so sad.
“Queena, come over here.”
Wind Chen pulled Queena Ye over to him.
She looked at him with teary eyes.
Wind Chen quietly said, “I should be able to treat Mum of her illness.”
“What?”
Queena Ye was too stunned for words.
Sue Lee looked at Wind Chen with a start and a look of ecstasy appeared on her face. “Wind! Treat me then! Hurry up and treat me of this illness!”
“Nonsense!” shouted Zander Ye. “This is a matter of life and death. Sue, don’t simply believe what Wind Chen is saying.”
“I agree, Mum. You can’t just simply trust anyone who claims to be able to treat you because you’re in urgent need of a cure.”
Mina Ye walked out of the bathroom and supported Zander Ye’s opinion.
Sue Lee waved her hands about and said loudly, “Wind said before that the daughter of that VP Xu from Thousand City Entertainment was healed by him, right? I don’t know who else can help me anyway, so I might as well let him try.”
“No, but, Mum, what if…”
Penn Zen walked out of the kitchen with a bowl of noodles and heard what Sue Lee just said. He didn’t have to finish his sentence because the implied meaning was clear.
Pak!
Sue Lee slapped Penn Zen across the face and scolded him, “You little animal! I’m so ill, and you’re still in the mood to cook noodles? What an unfilial child!”
Penn Zen was confused by her slap, but he didn’t dare to get angry.
Mina Ye glared fiercely at Penn Zen and hissed at him, “You should have finished eating in the kitchen first before coming out! You’re seriously stupid!”
“He’ll really be the death of me.” Sue Lee panted heavily in anger.
“Mum, relax, don’t panic. I’m sure there’s a way.” Queena Ye quickly helped to support Sue Lee.
“In any case, I’m not agreeable with letting Wind Chen treat you.” Zander Ye was still against it.
Wind Chen snorted and said, “This illness might be considered a terminal illness to the doctors today, but it’s a minor case to me.”
“Really?” Flames of hope burned brightly in Sue Lee’s eyes.
“You’re going through a splitting headache right now, aren’t you?” asked Wind Chen.
“Yes, yes, it’s very painful now.” Sue Lee quickly nodded.
“That’s because the rotting tumor is pressing against your nerves. If this goes on, you won’t have to wait till a large part of the tumor rots before the pain kills you.”
Wind Chen took a step forward, stretched his hand out, and pressed it against the skin between Sue Lee’s eyebrows.
Sue Lee was stunned by his actions and was about to speak when she suddenly felt warmth enter her brain from his hand.
She instantly felt refreshed. Her head no longer spun, and she could see clearly now. Also, the pain that made her feel like her head was about to explode had disappeared completely.
“What did you do to her? Wind Chen, if you use this to take revenge on her, I’ll kill you!” roared Zander Ye.
“Relax, I was just helping her to stop the pain,” said Wind Chen calmly.
“That’s nonsense! You…”
“Zander, it’s really not painful anymore!” Sue Lee quickly held Zander Ye back from continuing his angry tirade. She was so pleasantly surprised.
“Mum, is it really not painful anymore?” asked Queena Ye in shock.
“It’s really not painful anymore! Wind, thank you! Thank you so much!” Sue Lee was really elated. After she had gone for the check-up, she had returned with a pile of painkillers, but they didn’t seem to work. Wind Chen had eased the pain with just one touch, and that was simply magical to her.
At that moment, she believed in Wind Chen’s medical skills.
Meanwhile, Zander Ye and Mina Ye were rocked to their core.
Wind Chen had been living and slaving in the house for two whole years, but nobody ever knew that he was capable of doing anything like this.
Even Queena Ye was deeply shocked by this.
Wind Chen looked at all their shocked faces and said quietly, “All I’ve done is to temporarily suppress the illness and relieved her pain. It’s not actual treatment.”
Sue Lee started getting anxious again when she heard these words. “Wind, help Mum, alright? Help to treat my illness, alright? I’ll give you anything you want.”
“Will you?” Wind Chen laughed. “I’ve been living with the Ye family for two years and 15 days, and you scold me about five times a day on average, right? That makes 1,700 scoldings a year, so two years and 15 days means a total of about 3,500 scoldings. Tell you what, I’ll give you a discount. Kowtow 3,000 to me, and I’ll help you to survive this illness.”
“Wind Chen, you useless thing! Don’t go too far!” shouted Mina Ye.
Pak!
Wind Chen used the back of his hand to slap her. “Do you have any right to speak?”
“You…you…”
“Get lost.” Wind Chen’s expression was void of any feeling.
Mina Ye clutched her cheek and turned to her left and right, to find that nobody was going to help her, so she ran off in tears.
Penn Zen had witnessed everything from the kitchen, but he didn’t even dare to let a fart out.
Sue Lee was taken aback and didn’t know what to do at all.
Zander Ye remained silent while his expression darkened.
Wind Chen folded his arms and went on emotionlessly, “Did you know that for the past two years, every time it gets late at night and all of you are happily snoring away and having wonderful dreams, I have so much trouble falling asleep, because all I hear are your voices calling me a useless bum, a coward, a gigolo. I’m not worth anything to you guys.”
When she heard this, Queena Ye’s pretty face was drained of color.
She knew very well how much pain and torture Wind Chen had gone through over the last two years.
In the past, nobody cared about his feelings. But now, it seemed too late for regrets.
Sue Lee shuddered and said in a trembling voice, “I know that I used to be very nasty, but you’re my son-in-law. Are you really going to make your mother-in-law kneel down and beg you?”
