Chapter 31: I Won’t Be Polite Either

Sue Lee was now a terminally ill patient who was desperately fighting to live. She didn’t have any of her prior arrogance left in her.
If Wind Chen told her that she had to kneel to live, she would definitely get down on her knees.
“Wind, Mum already knows that she was wrong. Why don’t you forgive her? In any case, Mum is an elder to us. No matter how many things she has done wrong, we can’t do this to an elder.”
Queena Ye tugged at Wind Chen’s hand as she pleaded on behalf of Sue Lee.
“Then at least she could say sorry, right?” replied Wind Chen.
Queen Ye took a deep breath. “Let me say this again. She’s my mother, so if she’s done anything wrong, I’ll bear any consequences for her. Wind, I will not let my mother suffer any humiliation.”
“And how are you going to bear any consequences for her? But you’re right. All of you are one family, while I am merely a lowly man who married into his wife’s family. So all of you can go ahead and insult me all you want, and I don’t deserve any apology,” sneered Wind Chen.
“You know that’s not what I mean.” Queena Ye frowned.
“What do you mean then?” Wind Chen’s expression began to grow frosty as he said, “It’s only right for me to be humiliated? And now that I’m asking her to apologize, you say that I’m humiliating her?”
“What Queena means is that no matter what wrong an elder has done, you…you should be more forgiving towards them,” interjected Zander Ye. But it was obvious that he wasn’t confident of his own words.
“I can’t be more forgiving, because neither of you behave like how an elder of the family should,” snapped Wind Chen icily.
His words carried some anger now.
He was angry because of Queena Ye!
Her attitude made him very unhappy.
“That’s enough!” said Sue Lee loudly all of a sudden. “I’ll kneel, alright? I’ll kneel!”
After saying that, Sue Lee started bending down to kneel.
Wind Chen frowned and raised his hand to stop her. “There’s no need to.”
“Then…will you treat my illness?” Sue Lee was very antsy now.
“Depends on my mood. You’re not in danger at the moment. I’m going to bed first.”
Wind Chen turned and went upstairs.
After Wind Chen walked into his room, Zander Ye clenched his fists tightly and said through gritted teeth, “This fellow is really getting too arrogant. He doesn’t treat us like family at all! Queena, you have to divorce him.”
“Dad, ask yourself honestly. Have any of you ever treated him like family? People respond the same way they’re treated. If you had been nicer to him all this time, then I would think that Wind Chen would have offered help immediately without hesitation if he knew that Mum was sick.” Queena Ye furrowed her brows deeply.
“It’s all my fault.”
Sue Lee’s face was already covered in tears.
“Mum, go and rest first. Don’t be too worried. I’m sure Wind won’t leave you in the lurch.” Queena Ye tried hard to soften her voice as she spoke.
After that, Queena Ye went upstairs as well. Once she walked into the room, she scanned the room and saw Wind Chen lying on the floor with his eyes closed, as if he had already fallen asleep.
“Wind, I said all that because I didn’t want my mum to feel embarrassed. Don’t be angry anymore, will you?”
Queena Ye walked over to Wind Chen and bent over to pull him up when her phone suddenly rang.
She took her phone out, to see that it was from a number she didn’t know.
After thinking about it, Queena Ye decided to reject the call.
But just when she was about to press the button, Wind Chen suddenly said, “Take the call!”
“It’s from a number I don’t know,” said Queena Ye.
“Did any company call you regarding a partnership today?” Wind Chen sat up.
“Nah. Which company would still be willing to work with Star Cultural now?” Queena Ye sighed.
“Take the call then,” said Wind Chen. He could already guess who was calling.
Queena Ye felt that Wind Chen was behaving a little strange, but she picked up the call anyway.
The moment the call got through, the caller started speaking first. She had a very pleasant-sounding voice. “Hello? Is this Ms. Ye from Star Cultural?”
“Yes, I am. And you are…?” Queena Ye was puzzled.
“Hello, Ms. Ye. My name is Erin Chu, and I’m the general manager of Worldread Culture. I’m so sorry for calling you this late. After careful consideration, we would like to establish a long-term partnership with Star Cultural. What do you think?” asked Erin Chu in a friendly voice.
Queena Ye immediately brightened up when she heard this. “Of course, I welcome a partnership. But Ms. Chu, it’s a somewhat strange time to offer a partnership…”
“Ms. Ye, I know what you mean. Don’t read too much into it. Worldread is eyeing the tremendous potential that Star Cultural has. Someone will go to your office tomorrow to discuss more details with you.”
“That’ll be great. Thank you, Ms. Chu.” Queena Ye tried to suppress her excitement.
“Thank you, Ms. Ye. Goodnight!” Erin Chu hung up.
Queena Ye gripped her phone and felt like all her frustrations had disappeared.
She didn’t expect Worldread to consider a partnership with Star Cultural. With such a deal, Star Cultural was going to survive this crisis.
“With the help of Worldread, you won’t have any more major problems, right?” asked Wind Chen.
“Of course,” replied Queena Ye with a smile. “With the help of Worldread, we should be pretty stable.”
“That’s good then. Go to bed.”
Wind Chen smiled too.
“Wait.” Queena Ye grabbed hold of Wind Chen. “You seem to have known this beforehand.”
“I went to look for Worldread,” replied Wind Chen honestly.
Queena Ye was stunned for a moment, then snapped angrily, “Stop joking around and be serious. How did you know that Worldread was going to offer Star Cultural a deal?”
“I’ve told you the truth, but you don’t believe me. There’s nothing else I can do.” Wind Chen shrugged.
Queena Ye frowned as she thought about it for a while. Then her expression suddenly darkened. “I know.”
“What do you know?” Wind Chen was startled. The look on her face had instantly changed.
Queena Ye’s face was covered in a layer of frost as she said in a grim voice, “Lola Chinn is the daughter of the CEO of Soaring Leap Group, and Worldread belongs to Soaring Leap. So you went looking for Lola Chinn for help, didn’t you?”
“So would you rather Star Cultural stay afloat? Or would you rather be jealous for nothing?” Wind Chen asked her in return.
“What do you mean by jealous for nothing? You’ve been a d*ucheb*g, and you’re still trying to argue your way out of this? If there’s nothing between you and Lola Chinn, why would she agree to do you such a huge favor?”
Queena Ye lost her patience and suddenly felt very unhappy.
“She wasn’t the one who did me the favor. Fine, I’ll be honest with you. Actually, Berg Chinn has already transferred Worldread to me because I treated the matriarch of the Chinn family,” Wind Chen came clean.
He felt that since he was a husband to Queena Ye, a married couple should not conceal too many things from each other.
“You’re lying again.” Queena Ye glared at Wind Chen. She was feeling a little uneasy, a little nervous, and a little angry at the same time. Her emotions were a mess as she asked, “Does the Chinn family already treat you like their son-in-law that’s why they’ve decided to give you an entire company? Do you intend to help me tide over this crisis, then elope with Lola Chinn?”
“That’s utter nonsense.” Wind Chen couldn’t believe she just said that. “Queena Ye, I’m still frustrated over Mum’s matter, so don’t jump to conclusions and make things worse, will you?”
“Getting scared now?”
Queena Ye sneered.
“You’re being unreasonable.”
Wind Chen stared back at Queena Ye.
“Do I need to be reasonable with you?” Queena Ye glared fiercely at Wind Chen.
“I won’t be polite with you either then.”
“Oh? Are you going to hit me?”
“No, I’m going to kiss you.”
Wind Chen suddenly pecked her on the lips quickly and accurately.
Queena Ye squeaked in surprise. She touched her lips, and her face instantly blushed.
