Chapter 24: The Second Pencil

After a whole night, the power of the drug was finally drained.
Zhao Chen leaned against the wall, covered in blood caused by dog bites and sabers. He couldn’t have looked more miserable.
However, after the disaster, his strength was significantly higher than before, and he had reached the peak of the sixth stage of body polishing!
He could make a breakthrough at any point.
The power of the drug that Shen Zhe had given him was enough, but Zhao Chen was not able to absorb all of it since he didn’t practice any body polishing arts.
“His body recovery is much faster now. With appropriate medications, his wounds will be healed in three days…”
Zhao Fan was relieved after seeing that his son had finally digested the power of the drug.
The night of hard work was worth it.
Otherwise, it would have been impossible to reach the sixth stage of body polishing without a decade of arduous training.
Only a Heavenly Material would have produced the same result overnight.
Zhao Fan had a lot of mixed feelings as he looked at the dogs and bodyguards on the ground.
The bodyguards were exhausted, but could recover after resting for a few days. However, a dozen of the dogs had died of exhaustion, and the rest would probably not live for long.
What could his son have possibly taken?
Why was it so incredibly effective?
He couldn’t hold it back anymore and approached his son.
“Tell me, what’s the drug in your body, and why did you say that Shen Zhe poisoned you?”
“This is what happened…”
After Zhao Chen was back to himself, he realized that his father had sent the dogs and the bodyguards for his sake. He recalled what happened the night before and told his father everything.
“You said that Shen Zhe made the drug and told you that he would help you treat your wounds?” Zhao Fan was shocked.
“Yes, father…”
Zhao Chen was embarrassed.
He then knew that his friend really didn’t mean him any harm.
If only he had known it back then, such a folly would’ve been avoided.
“He… He could make such an excellent drug when his grades are so bad?” Zhao Fan found it hard to believe.
Shen Zhe was even more notorious than his son. Every time he scolded his son, his son would use Shen Zhe to defend himself.
Little did he expect that Shen Zhe was so capable of refining.
“He’s now a good Body Practitioner, too…”
Zhao Chen told his father how Shen Zhe had beaten Lu Zihan up.
“That explains a lot!” Zhao Fan said with mixed feelings, “To help you improve, he pissed off Lu Zihan and even made a drug for you… You can’t find a better friend!”
“But father, didn’t you say that it was a shame to hang around with such a bad student?” Zhao Chen said while looking at his father.
Although he was in agony, he still caught it clearly.
“Cough, cough!” Zhao Fan coughed in embarrassment. “I was wrong. You should keep being close with him…”
As a parent, he naturally didn’t want Zhao Chen to make friends with the bad students. He strongly objected to his son hanging around with Shen Zhe.
“I told you that Shen Zhe was a good friend and not as bad as you imagined… But you never listened to me. Now, everything is clear…”
Zhao Chen was relieved after his rigid father had admitted defeat. Then, he felt extreme hunger.
He had run for a whole night. Even the power of the drug couldn’t sustain him anymore.
“Father, I’m hungry…”
“Alright, we’ll have dog meat today!”
Zhao Fan waved his hands.
…
After giving the herb liquid to Zhao Chen only to be misunderstood, Shen Zhe returned to his dormitory. He planned to solve several mathematical questions, but he fell asleep after a few quick glances.
He finally realized that mathematics was the best sleeping aid for him in both his previous life and his current one.
Clang!
In the middle of his sleep, he was woken up by the sound in his head.
Rubbing his eyes, Shen Zhe saw a brand-new pencil that had been placed right next to his notebook.
“It’s here?”
Excited, Shen Zhe jumped from his bed, his drowsiness gone.
He did so many good things the previous day to get a new pencil, but it never showed up. Why had it appeared while he was sleeping?
Would the pencil only appear a day after he did good things?
In that case, he should do more good things that day.
He recalled the good things he did the day prior. Helping the beggar, helping Lu Zihan…
The beggar was a fake one. His gratitude couldn’t be sincere.
“It must be because I helped Lu Zihan!”
Shen Zhe secretly nodded.
“I should give the guy another hand when a chance pops up, in a way to make him grateful!”
He was considering how he could have Lu Zihan thank him, when he noticed that the second page of his notebook was loosened. So, he opened the notebook.
Huala!
The page which seemed to be glued before was opened easily.
Shen Zhe’s eyes glittered.
He had been using the notebook since junior high school. It was so old that he couldn’t remember at all what was recorded on the second page.
However, he was certain that it should be useful knowledge, or the key points that the teacher had imparted.
He lowered his head and read it, only to be stunned…
“What’s this? This was all I wrote down in the first class after I got this notebook?”
On the second page of the notebook, there was nothing but an “=” sign.
It was the first after he got the notebook, and the teacher spoke for forty-five minutes. Yet, a “=” was all that he wrote?
Shen Zhe didn’t know what to say.
There was a reason why his grades were so bad.
“The first page is blank and the answers I write on it will change the guidance book accordingly. I wonder how I can use the equal sign…”
He had learned how to use the first page, but the second page was still a puzzle.
However, he was in no hurry. Since he had a pencil and the first page was still not full, he’d better change his talent first.
Thinking about that, Shen Zhe wrote with the pencil on the first page without any hesitation.
“I have the best talent in cultivation on this continent!”
Hum!
His handwriting gradually vanished as he stopped.
“It doesn’t work this way…”
After his experiences, he understood that his words disappearing indicated that the notebook was incapable of making it happen.
It was like when he wrote “Wang Qing is a pig”.
“I have divine talent!”
“I’m the most awesome guy!”
“I’m supreme!”
“I have illuminated seven stars!”
“I have a beautiful girlfriend!”
…
He wrote many lines, but they all dispersed.
“I thought it was an awesome goldfinger, but it can’t even change my talent…” said Shen Zhe in disdain.
His hack was obviously not as good as the one from Library of Heaven’s Path.
Since nothing was written, the pencil was not shortened at all, and he could still use it three times.
After trying so many times, he finally realized that the notebook could only change answers and help him accomplish a task more easily.
For example, if it weren’t for his pencil, he couldn’t have refined herbs with a griddle.
“Fine, I’ll go to class first…”
Shen Zhe checked the clock and had to stand up.
It was time for class. If he was late again, he wouldn’t be as lucky as when he encountered Mr. Xin Qi.
On his way to the classroom, many people pointed at him and whispered. Many girls were even giggling.
Shen Zhe found it perplexing. However, being the one with the last place of the school, he was accustomed to public mockery. It wasn’t a big deal for him.
Hardly had he sat down in the classroom when Wang Qing approached him with a weird face.
“Shen Zhe… Is it true?”
“What are you talking about?”
Shen Zhe was puzzled.
“You know… Last night!”
Wang Qing seemed rather shady.
“Last night?” Shen Zhe was even more curious.
Last night, he made a drug and gave it to Zhao Chen. Nothing else happened…
“It has spread out throughout the school. There’s no point denying it…” Wang Qing chuckled.
“What exactly are you talking about?”
Shen Zhe was even more confused.
“It’s…” Wang Qing was about to reply, when Ling Xueru approached them in a hurry.
The girl was so angry that her face was pale and she seemed to be exploding. Staring at Shen Zhe, she stammered, “Shen Zhe, let me ask you… Did you and Zhao Chen… do it?”
“Zhao Chen and I? Do it?”
Pu!
Shen Zhe spewed out the water he was drinking and nearly passed out. Could anyone tell him what was going on?
There was nothing between him and Zhao Chen!
