Chapter 36: The Angel Lowers Her Head And Pleads!
“Do you think you get to decide anything here?”
His voice was cold and emotionless.
“Bang!”
Shirley was grabbed by a huge force and thrown backwards.
Everything happened so quickly that Shirley did not even have time to react. Her body crashed into the stone wall, forming cracks in the wall that radiated outwards like a spider web.
If she was an ordinary woman, she would have lost her life from this attack.
But how strong was an angel’s vitality? This attack merely felt like a normal push to Shirley.
But what shocked Sherry was not the strength of the push. Instead, it was the fact that, even with her strength level of an Archmage, she was unable to react to the force in time.
Shirley’s eyes were now filled with fear. She never expected the polite Rennes to suddenly become so violent.
However, now that things had come to this, Shirley finally understood that she was not qualified to negotiate with Rennes.
That was because her power was far inferior to Rennes’, and power was justice. If Rennes could save her, he could kill her too.
Her status as an Archangel may just be a joke in Rennes’ eyes!
She felt that she had overestimated herself. She was in the human world now, not the territory of the angel race.
Realizing this, Shirley finally lowered her arrogant head. She radiated gloom as she said softly, “I don’t mean to offend, Lord Rennes. Please forgive my rudeness. I only acted that way because I’m too anxious!”
“Is that so?” Rennes relaxed the force pressing down on Shirley.
Shirley, who was pressed against the wall, slowly slid back down. She stood on the ground and lowered her head slightly.
Rennes stared at Shirley. “I just want to know what happened.”
“The angel race…” Shirley looked up. There seemed to be some struggle and hesitation in her eyes, but when she saw Rennes’ cold eyes, she gritted her teeth and said, “The angel race is divided into two factions: the King of Male Angels, Wade, and the Queen of Female Angels, Eve.
“Twenty-four thousand years ago, after the Battle of the Raging Sea, Queen Eve overthrew Wade’s rule, and Wade was forced to leave the City of Angels.
“Three months ago, the angel Amy, who used to be Queen Eve’s supporter, defected to Wade.
“Wade gathered the male angels of the Old Angel Era and led Amy and the male angels to Mount Paradise to wage a war.
“Due to the double pressure of internal and external problems, we lost one battle after another. I tried my best to protect Her Majesty, but unfortunately, my power is too weak and I couldn’t help much.”
Shirley’s eyes were filled with worry as she continued, “The Queen has the Pivotal Seal of the City of Angels. As the last line of defense on Mount Paradise, the City of Angels will not be breached so easily.
“Therefore, Her Majesty the Queen’s life should not be threatened yet, but it’s hard to say for how long that will remain!”
“Please let Shirley go, Lord Rennes. As an Archangel under the Queen, Shirley must lead the soldiers!” Shirley knelt on one knee and begged with her head facing up.
Just as Rennes was about to reply, a loud sound came from outside the door.
*Bang!*
It sounded like a heavy object falling. Hearing the sound, Shirley wiped away the tears in her eyes in a hurry, while Rennes was curious.
Who would come to his residence so late at night?
And now that he thought about it, he had not caught a glimpse Trish ever since he came back. He had no idea where the girl had gone.
Rennes frowned slightly and went to the door.
He saw a wooden box at the door with the words “Happy New Year” written on it.
“A New Year’s gift?” Rennes rubbed his forehead, thinking. He did not have any good friends who would give him gifts. Could it be a present from some nobles who wanted to suck up to him?
However, nobles would not send gifts in the middle of the night.
Rennes probed the box with his spiritual power.
The next second, Rennes relaxed and smiled.
“Oh my, who sent me this gift? So kind of them!” remarked Rennes casually. No one knew if he was speaking to himself or to others.
After saying that, Rennes pushed the box inside. It was a little heavy.
He left it in a corner and ignored it.
He returned to the room.
Shirley was still standing where she was. Her eyes were full of curiosity. She asked, “What happened, Lord Rennes?”
Rennes answered casually, “Oh, a strange person gave me a New Year’s gift, that’s all.”
After that, he smiled and said, “Right, where were we just now?”
“Shirley wants to go back and help the Queen in her fight. Please allow me, Lord Rennes!” Shirley said honestly.
“How strong is Wade?” Rennes asked.
“An eight-star Archmage. The Queen is also an eight-star Archmage. However, the Queen was back-stabbed by Amy, so she did not manage to stop Wade’s assault in time. In the end, she could only retreat to the City of Angels.”
Shirley’s eyes flashed with hatred.
She obviously detested this kind of behavior. After all, the way she preferred to fight was to fight head-on. She also hated herself for not being stronger.
However, even if she wasn’t strong enough, she was an Archangel, so she could not run away. Otherwise, she would never forgive herself.
Meanwhile, in the corner of a large room, in a box containing New Year’s gifts, Trish was so hungry that her stomach was growling.
“Trish is starving!”
“Why isn’t Lord Rennes back yet!”
Trish complained silently.
In the other room, Rennes, who was still talking with the angel Shirley, had long forgotten about the New Year’s gift.
Rennes found the mysterious light spots in his body increasing as he gained more and more information.
Compared to when he first met Shirley, it had increased by more than 30.
This could only mean that this whole thing with the angel race was definitely a big mission.
Merely talking to the Quest NPC Shirley gave him so many experience points.
If he really participated in the Battle of the Angel Race, the number of mysterious light spots in his body would definitely increase dramatically, and the quantitative change might even incur a qualitative change.
The strength of the King of Male Angels, Wade, was only an eight-star Archmage, so none of the angels under him would have the strength of a nine-star Archmage. This meant that at most, Rennes would only face two eight-star Archmages or something comparable.
This was a piece of cake for Rennes. With his current power, even if he had to fight two nine-star Archmages, he could still easily kill them.
So, Rennes had already made up his mind.
