96 I Made a Clown of Myself
Zhao Chuchu wanted to get back at Xie Heng.
However—
After taking the rice out, she forgot to add water to the pot before putting it on the stove as she was preoccupied with making him eat his words.
If it weren’t for Xie Jun’s reminder, their dinner would have had to be postponed till a little later. “Sister-in-law, you still haven’t added the water!”
Xie Heng removed the cloth that covered his eyes and looked at her with a faint smirk.
!!
[Slap!]
Zhao Chuchu thought, “Ouch! My face hurts!”
She tried to save her face and said, “I was about to get the water.”
“Ah. I thought you forgot about it.” Xie Jun felt a little sorry.
Xie Heng remarked, “She didn’t forget. Her hunger made her irrational.”
Zhao Chuchu glared at Xie Heng and thought, “Are you done?”
Xie Heng’s eyes were gleaming like the stars as he raised a relaxed smile.
Xie Jun was bewildered. “Brother, are you gloating?”
“No, you got it wrong. I’m just in a good mood.” Xie Heng patted Xie Jun’s head and said, “Isn’t Chuchu cute?”
“Hmm.” Xie Jun nodded vigorously. He agreed that his sister-in-law was lovely after recovering from her illness and hoped she would remain that way.
Although his sister-in-law had treated him well before, she had been taciturn. However, he liked her current personality as she would joke around, share nice food, and tease his brother together with him.
Zhao Chuchu was at a loss for words.
She did not want to speak with the brothers.
With Xie Heng around, the rice did not end up charred. They had dinner on time.
Xie Jun went to bed immediately after taking a shower.
Zhao Chuchu dragged away two packets of potato seeds that she had sneaked in with the stuff she had bought in the morning. The cultivation of the mountain field would be nearly done by the end of the third month. So, she could grow some potatoes.
The requirement for soil quality was not high with the improved potatoes. They would grow on barren or fertile land, though the amount of harvest would be affected a little.
Nevertheless, those were the things Zhao Chuchu learned from the researchers of the agricultural research institute. She did not know the know-how of the entire process. Her agricultural knowledge was only to the extent of theories, as she had never tested them.
Da Liang did not have potatoes yet at that time. So, Xie Heng had never seen them before.
“What is this?” Xie Heng grabbed a potato and stared at Zhao Chuchu.
“Potatoes. The fries you ate last time were made from this. Let me tell you, Da Lang. Potatoes are good stuff—they can become a staple food,” Zhao Chuchu clarified with excitement. She felt hungry after explaining the ways to prepare potatoes.
A gleam flashed across Xie Heng’s eyes.
He was certain Zhao Chuchu was not from the Wei Dynasty after her explanation about potatoes.
“Potatoes are precious stuff. Their yield will be great with proper cultivation. So we don’t need to worry about hungry stomachs even during a food shortage.”
“Did you buy the mountain field to grow these things?”
Zhao Chuchu bowed her head. “We can harvest the potatoes around the end of the sixth month. Then we can grow some soy after that. Then, we can fully utilize the land.”
“But you only have two bags of potatoes. The field is vast. Is it enough?”
“You don’t just bury the whole thing in the soil.”
After pondering, Zhao Chuchu explained the theories she knew to Xie Heng.
Xie Heng’s mind was blown away upon hearing that.
Xie Heng had been admiring Zhao Chuchu as a woman with great medical skills before, but his admiration quickly grew to become respect at that moment.
“In that case, it will cover about half of the mountain field’s southern area?”
“In theory, yes.”
These potatoes had a lot of buds. They could be cut into smaller parts once sprouted. Nonetheless, Zhao Chuchu was unsure whether it could cover half of the field’s southern area.
If it couldn’t, she would get two more packets of them.
