Chapter 60: Glory and Spoils of War

Niedern pulled off his magic mustache and looked silently at Su Ye under the gradually fading sunlight.
Niedern pulled off Su Ye’s magic mustache when Su Ye had walked in front of him. He then asked immediately, “Were you acting or acting?”
“Yesterday, I told Kaerton that I was very good at distinguishing friend and foe. Another angle we can look at a possible enemy is that that person might not be an enemy. We already have too many enemies, there’s no need to forcefully add another one,” Su Ye said.
Niedern continued to stare at Su Ye.
Su Ye continued, “The reason as to why I walked so slowly before the contest was not because I was thinking about victory. Instead, I was searching for an even better victory.”
“This is your ‘even better victory’?” Niedern pinched the magic ring in his right hand.
“This is the spoil of war I deserve.” Su Ye silently took the ring from him and naturally put it on his left middle finger… His finger was too thin. He put it on his index finger instead.
“You have been scheming for a magic device from the start, haven’t you? You would rather risk not using Magic Rope for the first two rounds of the contest to guarantee your victory on the last round, all for this one magic device?”
Su Ye smiled and said, “We fight for glory and spoils of war all our lives.”
Niedern was speechless.
In ancient Greece, most of the heroic tales involved glory and spoils of war. Even mages would not hesitate to contend for their glory and spoils of war after every battle.
A reasonable pursuit for glory and loot was the right of every Greek.
“We fight for glory and spoils of war all our lives.” This was a sentence that many heroes often said.
Su Ye reached his right hand out and said, “Where are my spoils of war?”
Niedern had a look of regret on his face, which disappeared almost immediately. He hid it very well.
He coughed softly and thought for a moment before saying, “You have made an immense contribution to the winning against the other party with a three to zero score in the contest between Mage Apprentices. I believe that the academy will definitely award you with the Black Iron Medal. Of course, it might take a few days.”
Su Ye had a realization. He asked, “You were deceiving me before! You did not expect me to win? I thought that you already made all the necessary preparations!”
Niedern said seriously, “I always believe in my students.”
“Give me results in three days, or I’ll go look for Andre!” Su Ye turned and walked toward the classroom.
Niedern sighed as he looked at Su Ye’s back. Since when did giving him training turn into rewarding him? Where did the problem lie?
“Su Ye!”
Su Ye turned his head to see that his classmates had crowded around him.
“Su Ye, you are great!”
Hort pushed the rest of the people aside like a sprinting elephant in his excitement and gave Su Ye a big, passionate hug.
“Softer, softer…” Su Ye could not help but squeeze out.
His classmates giggled when they saw this scene. It was as if a bear was hugging a small cat.
Su Ye stretched his neck and massaged his shoulder after Hort released him and grumbled, “I didn’t get injured by my opponents, but I nearly got killed by your hug.”
Hort scratched his head in his embarrassment. He could only scratch his scalp as his hair was too short. His hair was probably only as long as the thickness of his skin.
“Good job! Even I was jealous!” Laker punched Su Ye’s shoulder. Su Ye was unaffected, but Laker stumbled from the impact. He blushed. It was as if he had lost all his power.
Su Ye rolled his eyes as he said, “Have you two been bought out by the other side to exact revenge on me?”
“You are the hero of Plato Academy today!” Jimmy whistled.
“You were alright, though you might still fail in the future,” Ebert mumbled softly.
“Let us see the magic ring!” Another classmate could not help but say.
The students around him suddenly became silent. At this moment, the eyes of every student were filled with a desire for knowledge.
Most of them would not obtain a magic device before they advanced to black iron. Even a family as rich as Hutton’s family would not equip their child with an item that was worth at least two large houses.
“Alright.” Su Ye was frustrated. He pulled off the magic ring and first handed it to Laker, who had a glimmer in his eyes. Hort, who was by his side, was not too interested. He had seen many students with magic devices before.
“Thank you very much.” Laker was usually very serious, but he could not suppress his excitement of being able to touch a magic device.
Most of the magic device the students were exposed to were actually regarded as “magic tools.” This included objects like the magic mustache or an alarm clock bracelet. They were miles apart from a true magic device that was used for combat.
They took turns looking over the magic ring and observed it closely.
The sparkling sapphire released an alluring shine. The matte silver body of the ring made it look as though it was an antique silver ornament. The magic patterns on the ring were like green veins.
Ebert opened his mouth to say that the magic ring was rather useless, but he could not help but stroke the ring a few more times.
Su Ye took back the ring after all the students were done looking at it, then walked back to the classroom with everyone else.
Everyone was in high spirits. They were all incredibly excited.
The first thing Su Ye did when he returned to the classroom was to grab his spellbook and look for the teachers who had lessons today and tomorrow.
Soon, Su Ye understood Hort’s frustration.
Along the way, everyone greeted Su Ye passionately when they saw him.
Su Ye no choice but to greet them back.
These people were too passionate, and this was still a very exciting time. Some of the people even wanted to pull Su Ye aside and talk about the battle. Su Ye could only invoke Niedern’s name and say that he had something important to attend to.
In the end, even the teachers pulled him around and asked about what happened today when he entered the office.
The class was over by the time Su Ye had finished gathering the material he needed to review and prepare. There were less than ten people left in the classroom.
Su Ye down the material needed to be reviewed and prepared on the blackboard, not caring whether the rest of the students were looking at it or not.
Seeing that class was over and that Hort was not around, Su Ye headed to the cafeteria after he was done writing down the material.
He had just taken a few steps when he heard heavy footsteps behind him, accompanied by the faint sound of scraping metal.
Su Ye knew who it was the moment he heard the sound.
“Su Ye.”
Su Ye turned around to take a look. It was Rolon. He was dressed in full armor with a sword in his left hand and a spear on his right.
“Rolon.” Su Ye smiled.
“Do you want to sell your magic ring for 600 Gold Eagles?” Rolon had a slightly frustrated tone. The melancholy in his gaze became deeper.
“As a favor for a friend?” Su Ye asked. “Sorry, but I can only sell it for a thousand. If it’s not a thousand, then I’ll just keep using the ring for myself. Teacher Niedern told me that this ring is more powerful than the average Magic Barrier when I went to the office just now.”
“Too expensive, what about 800?” Rolon asked.
Su Ye hesitated for a moment before he said, “I’ll sell it at this price if you are going to use it for yourself. You know that this is the market price. Even though I do wish to use it myself.”
Rolon shook his head and said, “This is not a Divine Power Device, so I can’t use it. Furthermore, a Divine Power Device of a similar level is double the price, I… can’t bear to use it.”
Rolon seemed downtrodden as if he had a huge burden to bear when he said the final sentence. He also felt slightly ashamed.
A magic device could only be activated by Magic Power that was at least one level lower than the level of the device. However, a warrior did not possess Magic Power and thus could not use a magic device, no matter how powerful their Divine Power was.
