Chapter 874: F*ck, Who’s Pulling My Hair?
Editor: Henyee Translations
Although Yan Xi was a novice and enjoyed playing games, her financial constraints had always led her to adhere strictly to the principle of “hard work over spending money.”
As a result, her game characters typically sported basic or event-provided skins.
But then again, what gamer didn’t appreciate a good-looking skin?
With Gu Yang’s financial support, Yan Xi dutifully played alongside her, exploring the special effects of various characters except for Flower Fairy.
While deeply engrossed in their game, a man wearing a cap that obscured most of his face stood not far from them.
He scrolled through photos sent by his employer on his phone, glancing in the direction of Gu Yang and Yan Xi.
Gu Yang, hidden behind a fluffy mask that revealed only her eyes, and Yan Xi, without a mask due to her recent decline in popularity, were oblivious to his scrutiny.
The man’s gaze settled on Yan Xi’s profile, comparing it with the image on his phone, before zeroing in on his target.
Yan Xi had just changed into a new skin and was happily immersed in the game with Gu Yang when someone hurriedly passed by and tugged at her hair, causing a sharp pain in her scalp.
“Damn it! Who pulled my hair?!”
Yan Xi instinctively covered her head and turned around, but the culprit had already disappeared.
Her sudden outcry startled Gu Yang, who was focused on the game. She quickly removed her earphones and looked at Yan Xi, concerned. “What happened?”
Yan Xi stared at the few strands of hair on the floor as if they were her lost children. “My hair… Just now, some crazy person rushed past and yanked on my hair!”
“I don’t have much hair to spare. Due to staying up late often, I’m already losing hair and on the brink of going bald! And they just pulled out so much!”
Gu Yang noticed Yan Xi’s expression, even more distressed than when she knelt in the game. She gently touched her head and tried to comfort her. “Your hair is naturally fine and delicate, which makes it seem less abundant.”
“Next time, you can visit a hair salon for a voluminous style. It’ll give the appearance of more hair.”
Yan Xi’s eyes sparkled. “Really?”
Gu Yang nodded eagerly. “Yes, absolutely!”
Yan Xi then gently rubbed Gu Yang’s head and admired her own long hair. With a determined look, she finally asked a question that had been on her mind for a while. “How do you take care of your hair?”
Gu Yang was slightly taken aback by Yan Xi’s intense gaze. “Um, I use Good’s shampoo and conditioner, and try not to stay up late.”
The two delved into a discussion about hair care.
Gu Yang furrowed her brows. “Should we check the surveillance footage to find the person who pulled your hair just now?”
Yan Xi waved it off dismissively. “Forget it. He’s probably just a hater who recognized me and pulled a few strands to get back at me.” She then redirected Gu Yang’s attention to the products on Good’s official website. “Let’s get back to what we were discussing earlier. You mentioned…”
Once popular, Yan Xi had attracted many fans who were merely curious observers. True fans were few, but haters were abundant.
Now that her popularity had waned, the casual observers had moved on. Yet, the persistence of the haters touched her in an unexpected way.
After someone had pulled a few strands of her hair, even if Yan Xi retrieved the surveillance footage and identified them, the most she could expect was an apology.
Yan Xi decided it wasn’t worth her time. Right now, she wanted to focus on discussing long-term hair care goals with Gu Yang. Why let a few strands of hair delay that?
Seeing Yan Xi’s nonchalance, Gu Yang reluctantly dropped the idea. Still, she advised, “In the future, remember to wear a mask when you’re out. Some haters can be extreme. You need to stay safe.”
With concern, Gu Yang pulled out a disposable mask from her bag and handed it to Yan Xi. “Here, take this.”
“I thought since I’m not as famous now, not many people recognize me, so I didn’t bother,” Yan Xi admitted.
Despite her words, Yan Xi accepted the mask from Gu Yang and put it on. The winter air was cold, and the warmth of the room’s heater combined with the gesture made her feel comforted.
It had been a while since someone had shown her this level of care.
