Chapter 292: Plan

From the inception of the project to the preparation of the bid, Lu Zhao gave Luo Ying a brief overview.
The Luya Group’s review process was very rigorous. There would be multiple rounds of review for such a crucial project. It was not just the frontline workers who had to deal with the fallout of such a serious and simple error.
“Are you saying that there is a mole?” Although her knowledge of business management was limited, Luo Ying was able to absorb the essentials.
“Yes.” A sneer formed on Lu Zhao’s face. “I have got someone looking into it right now. The report’s findings ultimately pointed to an error committed by one part of the project team. This may have originated with an early oversight on the part of a new hire. Their team leader had also just recently been transferred, so he had missed it.
“The evidence supports a reasonable conclusion. There were a few hiccups with the new hire and the new team leader.” After Luo Ying took out the last of the hairpins, she sat back and contemplated. She understood Lu Zhao’s line of reasoning in no time.
“But for such an important project, it’s too much of a coincidence to have fresh replacements at such crucial steps. More importantly, how could such a vast and experienced team make a mistake in gathering such basic information? How could the other competitor companies not take notice?”
“You are absolutely right. There are just too many coincidences to dismiss this as mere chance.” Lu Zhao reached for the nearby comb and ran it through Luo Ying’s hair. His eyes sparkled with awe and appreciation. “The newcomers are part of their smokescreen. They’ll have their scapegoats ready.”
“Them?” Luo Ying asked hesitantly. Had Lu Zhao identified the spies already?
“It is just a hunch on my part. I dread knowing how deep the roots of this conspiracy truly go,” Lu Zhao said darkly.
The last line resonated deeply within Luo Ying’s heart. She creased her brow slightly as she thought back on the original book’s plot. Did she ever get to the part where the culprit was revealed?
Lu Zhao’s dry, warm hands massaged Luo Ying’s forehead. “Don’t worry. I have already requested an investigation by the risk management team.”
“Can they be trusted?” Luo Ying was concerned that the mole might be lurking elsewhere in the organization.
Lu Zhao assured her, “The internal control department is full of people who were personally promoted by me. The tender meeting is scheduled for the following day. Soon, it will all make sense.”
“The day after tomorrow…” Luo Ying suddenly remembered that it was already the middle of the month. In a few days, it would be time to take blood from her.
Each blood draw would leave her feeling weak for a few days. There was no way she could let Lu Zhao know.
She could almost imagine Lu Zhao’s heartache after learning the truth. He would rather refuse any further treatment.
With despair, Luo Ying counted off the remaining two months. She decided to hold off for a while longer. She would be able to tell Lu Zhao the truth once the poison in his body had been completely removed.
Simultaneously, in a city a couple hundred kilometers away, somebody was getting antsy.
“What do you mean? Why is Secretary Li here?” At the hotel where the project team was staying, an anxious man on the other end of the line was asking frantic questions.
He was a key player in the management of this property development.
Originally, he was the one slated to lead the team in the bidding meeting. Secretary Li had zero involvement in this whatsoever. He had just learned, however, that Secretary Li was going to be present.
“I’m just as blindsided as you are.” A somber tone could be heard through the phone. “Lu Zhao’s lackeys are here. Did you expose yourself?”
“Impossible!” The urgency in his voice grew. “I’ve taken all possible precautions.”
He took great care to leave no traces, whether it was internal proof or outside connections. Even if Lu Zhao went looking, all he would find are the “clues” he set up in advance.
“Well, I hope that is the case.” The person on the other end of the phone was skeptical, but he did not seem overly flustered by the situation. “It is too late now, even if they do find something.”
“Yes,” he muttered.
The government treated the tender’s contents as highly confidential once it was submitted. It did not matter if Lu Zhao showed up today in person; it was too late.
If Lu Zhao resorted to drastic measures to deal with the government, it would cause too much noise. His enemies, both in the open and from the shadows, would catch wind of it and cause severe damage to the company.
As he considered this, he felt his emotions begin to level out.
To him, his job would be finished if the Luya Group was awarded the contract.
Lu Zhao, meanwhile, would have to answer for the whole mess at some point. After hanging up, Manager Zhang thought callously that he did not give a damn if Lu Zhao wanted him dead.
“Mr. Lu, you are a good boss, but for Xiao Yi’s sake, I must do this.” He sat on the hotel room sofa, gripping his phone tightly. His tone mellowed, but a steely resolve glowed in his eyes.
He had gone too far to go back now..
