Chapter 290: Chapter 289: Meng Jingzhou Forms the Golden Core_1
The life of law lies in its execution, and the enforcement of law helps to stabilize the destiny of the Great Xia.
As a result, few dare to violate the laws of Great Xia, especially the most severe criminal law.
Although the law needs to be strictly enforced, there will always be unforeseen events that are punishable by law, but logically shouldn’t receive a punishment.
In such cases, the criminal law grants the Ministry of Punishments the power to avoid responsibility, delegating this power to the Minister of Justice.
Theoretically, this power is an easy escape route for the royal family from justice.
In practice however, such situations occur very rarely, due primarily to the supervision power of the Five Great Immortal Sects that prevents the Minister of Justice from acting rashly.
But a circumstance that even the original legislators wouldn’t have predicted transpired––the Minister of Justice was thrown in jail.
In the Yangxin Hall, Emperor Xia massaged his painful brow.
Why is it always when the Seek Dao Sect is involved, always something new and perplexing happens?
He received two pieces of news; one was that Yun Zhi’s exploration of the Immortal Secret Realm had concluded, revealing a nonexistent Fire Dynasty. This wasn’t urgent, he could slowly investigate the matter about the Fire Dynasty.
As for Yun Zhi’s request to move the ancient immortal’s abode from the Immortal Relic back to the Seek Dao Sect, he agreed.
The second piece of news was that the Minister of Justice was thrown in jail, alongside Daoist Buyu.
If the Minister of Justice dared to directly leave the jail, Daoist Buyu wouldn’t hesitate to publicly accuse the Great Xia Dynasty of perverting the law.
If Daoist Buyu dared to directly leave the jail, the Minister of Justice would intercept him, ensuring he couldn’t escape.
Stalemate.
“Should I pardon Xu Xin?” Emperor Xia murmured to himself. As the emperor, he naturally has the power of amnesty.
After some thought, he abandoned that idea, instead issuing another order.
“The entire Ministry of Punishments, move to the Goose County for duty.”
…
“So, this is why you came to visit me in jail?” Master Xu stared unhappily at several subordinates, looking quite furious.
“The emperor has decreed, we must comply.” The vice-minister of the Ministry of Punishment tried to keep a straight face, but the scene was too ridiculous. He and his colleagues could barely contain their laughter.
Daoist Buyu was squatting aside. Naturally, they should greet him. but looking at Master Xu’s livid face, they didn’t dare to act.
“Master Xu, these are the documents from the last two days. Please review them,” the vice-minister respectfully handed over several documents that required Master Xu’s attention.
Master Xu grunted: “Leave it here.”
Originally, the vice-minister wanted to say something such as “Wait for a few days. As soon as the emperor’s amusement runs out, he will pardon you,” or “Do you need food and bedding?” But in the end, he didn’t utter a word.
After his subordinates left the jail, Master Xu picked up the documents from the floor and reviewed them.
He frowned. He wasn’t pleased.
“Nonsense, it took me quite a while to propose this policy, and its feasibility has been trialed successfully in several counties and the results have been good. How could there be a mistake?”
Daoist Buyu glanced at the document and roughly understood the course of events. The document suggested a policy which was useless and had increased the workload of the counties. They suggested simplifying the policy, but this policy was something Xu Xin was proud of––how could he allow someone else to point out its errors?
He chuckled mockingly, in Xu Xin’s ears it sounded like ridicule: “Are you some saint, Xu Xin, infallible? If you’re so capable, why don’t you become the emperor?”
He became even more upset, and gave Daoist Buyu a cold look. Had it been some subordinates of Xu Xin, they would have gone quiet. But Daoist Buyu wasn’t scared of Xu Xin at all.
Poor casualty under Golden Core, Nascent Soul, and Spirit Transformation in previous fights.
Daoist Buyu, who has seen and known much, having extensive criminal experience, and his understanding of legal theory is certainly no less than Master Xu’s.
“…Have you ever considered legislative interpretation, what the legislators initially intended…”
“…Law is backward-looking, you’ve forgotten…”
“…Stop taking the theory route, what is the reality…”
Both sides debated intensely without giving in, and even set up a soundproof array method to prevent other prisoners from overhearing their conversation.
Finally, Master Xu’s tone wasn’t as sharp as before, and the more he spoke, the weaker he became. He had to admit that Daoist Buyu made sense.
“Shut up, let me think!”
Master Xu lowered his head in thought, Old Buyu might be unreliable normally, but he was always serious when it came to these matters.
This was the outcome Emperor Xia desired.
While Xu Xin worked tirelessly for the sake of the nation, trying to fill the gaps in the law, some of his decisions were not suitable after all.
Emperor Xia had no recourse to this. Xu Xin’s understanding of the laws of the Great Xia Dynasty were almost unparalleled, which made almost no one qualified enough to debate with him.
Even Emperor Xia couldn’t definitively say whether Xu Xin was right or wrong, and only felt that he was somehow inappropriate, but he didn’t know how to improve.
Fortunately, Daoist Buyu was well versed in the law with rich life-experiences, making him best suited to debate with Xu Xin.
Emperor Xia took this opportunity to allow the two to debate.
Once Xu Xin recognizes his true objective, he can then be pardoned.
…
When Yun Zhi and Lu Yang returned to the Seek Dao Sect, they ran into Meng Jingzhou who had just returned from the Secret Realm.
He had a moment of clarity in the forest, and as soon as he returned to Demon Suppressing Pass, he formed a golden core. He left Tao Yaoye and Man Gu to continue searching for their own opportunities while he returned to the Seek Dao Sect alone.
As for running into boasting young masters of influential families and being disguised to give a piece of his mind on his way back, it wasn’t worth mentioning.
“Haha, who would have thought? I’ve formed a golden core too!”
Meng Jingzhou began boasting the moment he saw Lu Yang.
Although he didn’t know which Golden Core Lu Yang formed, he was confident that his was the strongest, unbeatable by anyone.
“Let me tell you, my golden core is unprecedented. I’m about to break the fate of the Single Body Spiritual Root!”
Meng Jingzhou looked exuberant, not like he had just formed a golden core, but as though he had just become a powerhouse on the Transcendence Tribulation Stage. He was so overbearing that he couldn’t even be bothered to take detours.
Lu Yang was very surprised and didn’t try to hide it: “You have such ability? Which golden core did you form?”
Meng Jingzhou chuckled and invited Lu Yang to have tea in a teahouse. The two drank tea while he showed off.
“I’m not a Single Body Spiritual Root, as long as I want to form the core, I will naturally be able to form a Single Golden Elixir.”
Lu Yang nodded his head. The first Single-Body Spiritual Root, Careful Solitary Daoist’s heart of forming Golden core was the same.
“You formed a Single Golden Elixir?”
Meng Jingzhou didn’t answer. He placed a tea cup on the table: “This is a person, single!”
He then placed another tea cup: “This is also a person, single!”
He brought the two cups together, producing a clear porcelain collision sound, and then spoke of his long-thought conclusion: “If two singles come together, doesn’t that make a couple?”
“So?”
“So I formed two Single Golden Elixirs!”
